My friend just bought me a cheap but seemingly good quality 24-bit sound card, Creative Audigy (for my birthday). Compared to my old integrated peice of wank it's ****ing brilliant, so I just thought I'd rave about it a bit. Who else is using 24bit?

Creative do reasonable sound cards for gaming n audigy is ok. Is it the external card or the one with the front plate?
I ditched my Creative card a few years ago in favour of M-Audio.

Yeah thats a front panel available that slots in like a CD/DVD drive for the Audigy...has stereo outs, optical, midi n a few other inputs/outputs that add to the functionality of the card. Worth pickin up off ebay or somethin if you can find one.

Ok now we have this

Now, assuming that I know nothing about sound cards or anything like that, one can deduce using logic that the sides of the audigy are smooth as they are front mounted into a railing system onto the cage.
Clearly no matter which way Calibers card is mounted it would be interfacing with a 5.25 device cage :D

I didnt get one, I get 24 bit 7.1 with TOS out on the motherboard.
Normally I would fuss over the fact that it is drawing power from the CPU for this but being as it will be running at 3200Mhz on a Core 2 Duo I do not really need to worry about things like that.

True say...theres not much point in having additional sound card unless your doing professional recording as most motherboards offer 7.1 these days anyway.

I have a onboard motherboard sound card, which then goes out to my Rotel (dads old hifi) analouge amp, then to my Mission speakers. If i was to buy a new sound card, would the speaker output quality be better? Because all these new sound cards have like 7 jacks for the souround and ****, but i only need the one jack for line out beuase it goes into my amp.

I'm no audiophile but I think it would depend on what kinda onboard sound you have, as far as I know, the latest mobo's have 24bit sound, in which case there wouldn't be much use in upgrading, if it's 16bit, which is what most onboards have, then it may well be worth it.
Yes it would be better quality, onboard sound cards are exceptionally cheap and if you have a good quality amp and speaker combo then a new sound card would work wonders for the system.
