GOW 2 - Your first impressions?

Whats peoples first impressions on the campaign and multi player with Gears 2?

Ive played a bit of the campaign so far and im enjoying it, graphically it doesn't look any improvement on GOW but incredibly addictive so far :D

They need to patch the shotgun and the fact that you can't stun someone who is revving a chainsaw anymore.

Other than that, yeah I'm enjoying it.

Just completed the campaign on 'Normal' , it only took my the best part of 9 hours. I know i was talking to people on MSN as well this evening but still it did drag on a but too much for my liking. I don't think i have the patience to go back through it now on the hardest setting, it may just kill my sanity !

Its Multi-Player from now on me thinks :cool:

I love the campaign, i love the new horde mode, but i hate the online multiplayer. Matchmaking is a heap of shite, why cant you choose your playlist before searching instead of having to vote? if i only wna play execution i shouldnt have to play warzone every other game, plus it takes FOREVER to find a game if u dont have a party of 5.

Then theres the online gameplay, imo much much worse than Gears 1, its far too slow, the shotgun shoots about as quick as the sniper, the lancer/chainsaw combo is ridiculously overpowered, you get stunned with it as ur roading running then when u shoot them as they're chainsawing they dont get stunned, wtf? Then theres the stupid gimmicks of the maps, Hail is just crap, Avalanche is bearable, security lasers are rubbish. All in all i am severely disappointed with the MP, im sure i will learn to like it but its definetly not what i wanted. From a competitive viewpoint its going to be a smoke / lancer campfest, with absolutely no room for shotguns or anything else, it will just be strats / teamwork and we will lose the individual moments of brilliance like a 4v1 clutch with the shotgun etc.

I havent even mentioned how hip-firing the shotgun just doesnt work, and you dont know if youve hit anything with the shotgun as theres no feedback in the form of blood/sparks. Grenades are over-powered and the whole crawling once downed thing is really starting to get on my tits. I know im not the only one that is 'frustrated' at the 'tweaks' epic have introduced, they havent even fixed all the bugs with the cover/running/rolling system, earlier when i downed someone as they were rolling they crawled around the map as if roadie running.

I just had a go at doing some MP and lost patience in trying to find a game. I tried 3 separate times to play anything at all in MP and it just kept either searching for team mates or searching for a team to play against and then revert back searching team mates?!?

I'm sure its not lack of people playing the game at this point in time so why is it this bad?

It makes me realise what a lucky freak accident GoW1 MP was, Epic added it as an afterthough, and whilst it was a bit rough around the edges, the core gameplay was sublime, this is what happens when they do put some thought into it, they make a hash of it.

ive not encountered the apparent long times waiting between matches, but why would you go into MM on your own anyway ? ive had a little bit of lag in some games where the first 10 seconds felt like tis running at 10fps but other than that its been fine, theyre most probably jsut launch issues

Remember people are trying hoard & single player ect.Last time i checked the warzone leaderboards there was 70,000 people & im sure that more then 70,000 people have bought the game so just give it time for people to start playing with people apart from there friends.

So what would your advice be for someone who finds themselves on at a time that his mates aren't online? What would you have me do instead of playing MM?

Best game on the 360 atm. Graphics are some of the best on the 360, gameplay is quality once again and online is alot better now they've included the H3 matchmaking system. Only thing I haven't liked is that the chainsaw is overpowered online but other than that it's just bigger and better than the 1st one.

Onto Act 4 now and it's the best SP on the 360 IMO.

That's because it's not often people go in on their own.


The game is fine, bar the chainsaw. And perhaps the whole sticking grenades into wall thing/smoke grenades.

People are just so quick to judge, it's annoying. 99% sure this game will be patched to sort out the chainsaw and shotgun hip fire.

It's not super duper amazing, far from it.

It needs patching. It's a good game, with minor flaws.

A first look into gears of war multiplayer was enough for me to not like it. (hell same with cod4 when they intoduced perk trailers, i hated modern warfare). i'm a infinityward hater.

Gears of war 2 > The only things i'm fine with is the campaign, single and co op, and horde, and some bot killing.

But i'm looking forward to COD World at War, very much bursting people into flames with a deathcard and zombie killing, i have BIG doubts that the multiplayer will turn out right for me.

And for the record, IT'S NOT 5! tyreach never added that on the name, only some mags did.

Unsure what the link is leading too as it has nothing on to do with either Gears or COD ? In keeping with the Gears vs COD '5' :P debate i have preferred the MP in COD5 by far but both games are so different on so many levels its unfair to compare them.

insane wave 15 i think. about 15 anyway. only pussies play on easy. some people on my FL have the do all 50 waves achiefment but i had more points than them, and i hadnt even got the 10 waves one yet !

Matchmaking needs a patch ASAP, it will only start games 5 v 5 at the minute it seems.

The weapons seem a bit unbalanced too, shotgun is terrible now, sniper has changed, cant get downs with an active reload. The shield is far to strong.

The campaign is good bar the last level which is one big easy anti climax. Don't see the point in trying to leave a cliffhanger finish when we already know its the second installment of a trilogy.

Some good bits though, never seen the Tai thing coming, blimey!

Thank god no more sniper active downs!!!! one of the biggest pains in gears1. Matchmaking needs sorting. Having to vote on everything..Why cant you pick the game type you want. The campain was fun, nicely enlaraged over gears 1. Last boss was poor, but this seems tobe the trend in games these days. Just need to play insane, 3 online achiv's plus S2.0. 1000pts.

Are you talking about the Flashback map pack?

If so, you get the code in all editions of the game, its on the back of the 48hour trial you get.

As far as i know the only thing you get with the LE (in game) is the gold lancer.

in top 200 now on gridlock hoard ! which is sort of top 40 teams as each team has to have 5 guys in to get that high. made it to wave 25 on hardcore, sire and 2 boomers just walked up the stairs and took us all out !

Hoard is just the best mode ever. its just a bad thing that it takes about 2 hours to get where we got too.

The MM is still a little ****, you cant lock your games to invite only so u get people randomly joining your games, but its still an enjoyable game to play.
