One of the things many 360 owners are unhappy with is the noise that the console sometimes makes. Microsoft are aware of the problem and are now looking into shipping future Xbox 360 consoles with a new DVD drive.
The drive in question is manufactured by BenQ-LiteOn-Philips, and more specific, the BenQ VAD6038.
No release date has been given yet.
Does your Xbox 360's noise drive you mad? Would you prefer a quieter console?

Im genuinely thinking about selling my 360 due to the noise it makes, that's both the drive continually sounding like its eating lemmings and the rolls royce military grade turbines that are obviously in the 360.

The noise the 360 makes doesn't bother me at all. Whats stopping people from turning up the volume on their TV?

Why should the rest of the house hold have to listen to you play games just because your 360 is trying to take off!? I moaned like a ***** when i first got the 360 on how i thought it was noisy and i was told i was making something out of nothing........Told you so :p

You could always get some headphones like these. (http://hardware.teamxbox.com/general/75/Audio-Xtreme-360-Headphones/)

I might use them if MS pay for them, til then I should be happy with my 600w surround sound system as it is.

360 is unbearably noisy and where I live I cannot just crank it up to full volume, nor do I want to. It ruins the immersion, I am supposed to be hearing song birds from distance in Oblivion and to actually get rid of the noise of the 360 that same songbird sounds like a lion on my shoulder.

I don't think my xbox 360 drives me mad, yes you can hear the fans but my PC is actually louder due to fans (i'm thinking of getting rid of some) than my 360 is overall and even that doesn't really bother me. I suppose as Azure has said if you play a game that requires you listen very carefully so that you can get the full experience out of that game then it will be a problem, for the games that I play like Halo 2, PGR3 and GOW then I just can't see myself spending more money on a new DVD drive.

Doesn't really make sense fitting the 360 with a quieter dvd drive unless they are cheaper than the loud ones :S or they are trying to impress everyone by being extra nice. I suppose if the PS3 was super loud and people were complaining, Billy G might think "yeah lets make the 360 quieter". Hes a business genius. You can imagine the new 360 adverts:
"Now with a really quiet DVD drive. Jump in."

I very much doubt that, imagine it. Total chaos.

I personally dont notice how loud it is. due to the home cinema system being on. But if you have a problem then its great that they will correct this problem.
