... on hardcore Co-Op and I'm not really not as impressed as I thought I would be. Most people I know have told me that the single player is great and the multiplayer just not that amazing.

Don't get me wrong, but the single player isn't any more than decent. Sure, it looks incredibly good, but what about the story? Why are the going to the main blokes (Feniz?) house? Where did the train come from? What was the story all about? I have skipped one or 2 cutscenes though, did they explain more?

And the gameplay, I hated the 'Press Y to...' prompts. It's like Halo 2 where you've played the multiplayer for years and it comes up with a 'Pull R to shoot'. Talk about making it too easy.

I am liking the coversystem now though. It just seems to work.

What did you think of the Co-Op/Single player?

Technically delivering on screen shots - not much else.

That goes for MP and SP.

The only innovation in Gears really, is the seamless ability to hop into someone elses single player experience...

And once the other client leaves it returns you to the menu.

Serious Sam 2 on the Xbox allowed up to 3 clients to drop in and out of single player at any point.

the things i was most disappointed with were -

the dreadful direction, particularly before, during and after the cut scenes - why weren't there any resi4 style mini-games? why couldn't we just fight during the helicopter crash? that would have been awesome! why wasn't there a massive battle after raam to get to the bomb, or a cool mini-game to get on the 'copter at the end? one of you flying it, one of you trying to jump on?

the risible AI

the derivative storyline - there seems to be a lot of stuff on the net about other developers signing up the writer to do storylines on their games. great. i can't wait for those......

the VERY plain MP. *yawn*

and where the hell is the rest of my game!?

can i have a cookie too?

I really enjoyed the single player. It wasn't about the story and so I didn't really care about what happened. The gameplay was just really well polished as were the graphics and it was just really good fun. A bit short but meh I got the longivity from it in the multi and playing through on each difficulty (and it didn't get boring repeating it).

GTFO please your lower on the food chain than me

I strongly believe where GOW put the effort in, ie coop and single player they succeeded in. While the MP is limited what is there works pretty well. They didn't concentrate on story and as you can see it makes no sense at all, they didn't concentrate on a diverse multi and we don't have that either.

GOW delivers what it promises, its a great game.

In answer to cats orignal questions:

They were heading to Marcus Fenix's farther's house was because, his farther was a scientist and developed a resonator. The resonator was designed to map the tunnels of the locust and destroy them once and for all.

I think the train had a weapon on it, which was being driven to the COG team who had the resonator. On route, the train was hijacked by locusts. That's why it doesn't stop at the station and the team have to jump on.

I think...that is, i don't know all this for sure. The reason i don't know it all for sure is because epic put a lot of the story, not in the cutscenes, but in the actual game itself. The different people talking mid game give clues and story points.

Hope that helps.

I hate how the AI ALWAYS aims at Fenix in single player!

What's the point in having such an excellent game ruined by the AI always aiming at me when I'm trying to flank!?!?

If there's a Troika, I get ripped apart when trying to flank where my team stay in relative safety when THEY should be drawing some fire!
