I have purchased PES games since they firsted started on my old nitendo but this year after PES 2008 online issues I am going to give FIFA 2009 a try.
Which one will you be purchasing and why?

I'll be purchasing FIFA09 on release day, and probably giving PES2009 a rent. It will be the first PES/ISS I haven't bought on release day.
I used to dislike FIFA immensely, but when PES2008 was such a disaster online I turned to FIFA for my console football. I haven't looked back. It was just so good to play online, what with the sheer amount of teams available and such. Although it's not as deep as PES tactically, there are still a wealth of play styles out there to show the skill gap between players.
Also, FIFA09 will be faster than FIFA08, and has been said to play similarly to UEFA Euro 2008, which was excellent. Being able to play more than just 1v1 has been brilliant too.
Konami just rested on their laurels far too much, and EA pounced.

I'll be buying both.
PES for the LAN tournaments ( I can't complain about coming second with zero online practice, ****).
Fifa for the online tournaments, LAN too if it's held..

Definitely FIFA09 this time around, if the UEFA euro demo was anything to go by I think it'll be superior in all aspects.
PES2008 looked great and I stuck with it as I kept hoping that Konami would sort the online lag out. I got great enjoyment through the tourneys that were played on here and was lucky enough to even get a few games against the mighty Neo and Barr2k but once FIFA08 landed on my doorstep I never looked back.(and Gaskin just in case he thinks I forgot him! Where is that Parrot?)
I think the Be a Pro mode just offers something entirely different and the recent online events that my young pal Renegade has been running have been brilliant. He has also enjoyed a recent spate of making me his whipping boy! Shut it Stringer :)
Perhaps this time around PES might sort the whole thing out but it won't be top of the list unfortunately.

Like Gaskin i'll be buying both. I don't have much faith in online mode for PES so i'll proberly only play that at XL for the social side. FIFA08 impressed me online, i don't think i had a single game which was laggy and the gamemodes available online and offline were great.

Definately be purchasing FIFA 09.
Mainly because of the smoothness in the gameplay, and the game actually feels like a real football match, whereas PES, where it is a good game, really hasnt got any competition with FIFA.
The PES series has a slight advantage with the gameplay, but it doesnt feel realistic whereas FIFA does.
FIFA 09 is predicted to be the most realistic and full-filling football game ever made, I personally cant wait for the new FIFA, I'm not really too fussed about PES tbh, mainly because of the online being such a disgrace.
But ya never know, PES might have fixed there online atrocity this time round!
