Just wondering what games will be played on the days and will it be a 3 day event?
KONSPIRACY

To be confirmed....but most likely a 3 day event so ppl will need to get time off work/school as we cant fit everything in with just 2 days.

Its probably best to be patient and wait until Konspiracy posts the schedules and game types.
Because nothing has been finalised yet, you'll only get speculation and rumors.

One of the team events has to take place on the first day simply because of time/resources.

I've had to take at least one day off for each of the XL events I've been to. Three day events don't fit nicely into a two-day weekend, and we can't get it all in two days - sacrifices need to be made, take the day off!

Lets not take a day off in the most important year off school, Last Year. Okay. But Kon Makes Final Decision.

I do agree with kayz as school/work is more important and i think it should be a two day event im sure a lot more people would agree pulling a sicky could make you loose your job.

it would eb the same as missing the friday, for example off school becuase youd be at the plane station waiting for your flight. these events are designed with ease of access for the masses not the few, liek it or not

@ Terbinator - I am sure alot of people will not have a day off work school just to play a game, tbh, well im sure i wont and im sure alot of people will. I see where your coming from but losing a big amount of Teams on Gears then will be very decreasing on the amont of people attending i think, only Kon Can decide what he wants to do.

XL won't be losing a lot of teams. It may lose 1 or 2, at the very most - it's never been a problem before and it won't be a problem this time. If people want their games featured, it lasts more than two days.
Like I've said to you already - every event I've attended has meant taking time of University and off work. It's the same for most people, XL5 had over 450 gamers in attendance, and that was exactly the same situation. We had people moaning about being on summer holidays, people moaning about needing time off - whenever XL is arranged for, people will moan and they always have. It's not Matchbox or XL's fault that you don't want to rearrange things.

We cant do a 2 day event and fit everything in. If we did a 2 day event then it wouldnt be at Cranmore Park thats for certain as we simply wouldnt have the numbers per event required (ie we could only do Halo3 plus one other title = maximum 300 ppl).
If you dont want to take a day off then I guess we wont be seeing you and you'll have to hope our next event is on a bank or school holiday so you can make it. It really is that simple.

Give me the name of any XL player that has lost their job by booking time off over two months in advance, and I will give you my 360.

i understand where hitman is coming from,,
some peope do not have the option to take a day off work (like me)
yes you can say if you are a gamer you should put 110% into it
but reeal life is work, games is just a weekend thing.
personally i think it would be best to just feature the most played titles on the weekend, i dont know what they are but i am guessing Gears,COD4, Halo 3
that clears most things up, but then on the other hand, it will just start another set of people moaning
so what ever happens happens, people miss out on the events they miss out, im just waiting to see the days for the events, to see if i can actually go this time :D

Is it just me or are some people taking this day thing thing way out of proportion? Its one day off, or at the most 3 if you work weekends like me but its still just one weekend and im sure that if you asked for it off work as soon as you get the dates off you will probably get them and therefore not lose your job or anything stupid like that. I've been to 3 XLs and taken a weekend off work everytime and funnily enough i havent lost my job or dropped out of uni.

14-08-2008, 12:48 PM
5 XL's later i still have my job and still in uni. I agree shadow, taking a couple of days off isn't a big deal, book them from work and i don't think you are going to fail all of your exams from taking a day off school (bearing in mind XL is 15+) but if you have exams on the Friday then simply don't come to XL. Nobody is being forced to come to these events and if you can't make it thats just unfortunate. But for the 450+ people we had last time, taking a few days off wasn't an issue. We can't please everyone, we just do our best.

14-08-2008, 07:55 PM
Well I'm 15 and it is very unlikely that exams will be on a Friday. I had 7 last year and they were all on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Exams are usually planned to be midweek. Yes I will be pulling a sicky :P. Hope its worth it as its my first XL. See you there. Also props to Kon for making COD4 4v4. Should bring more teams.
KONSPIRACY
14-08-2008, 08:06 PM
We do not schedule XL during known exam periods...hence why we have decided not to do it before 20th November as we are aware that exams are far more important than playing games.
Regards to the 2 day event discussion...if we reduced to 2 days we would only be able to do 2 main tournaments so either Gears or COD4 would have to be dropped. This would also cause a loss in attendance so we would have to return to the NEC Toute Suite. Obviously Halo3 4v4 attracts over 45 teams regularly now and it would be impossible to do an event with more than just 4v4 in 2 days. Only other option is to do smaller dedicated game events which isnt really an option.
Basically XL requires 3 days to complete the schedule so get used to it and book time off when dates are released.

I lost a job for having a day off once, but my boss came home early from work, and i'll leave the rest up to your imagination, i wasn't robbing him either.
Anyway the only thing i'd like is it to be at the very begining of the month due to monthly pay it only really lasts 2 weeks.
3day or 2day i can understand that these things are a hobbie, although i love doing them and people take it very seriously, i respect that, but my job and home always comes first, i don't have a mum and dad that will pay for these things for me.

Nor do I - job and home of course come first, but there aren't many jobs that can refuse you a day off if you book it nearly two months in advance.

lol like your gona keep your heasd in a book ALL year... u no ur blatantly gona do tlike the rest of us did and still mess around in year 11! u say u take it seriously then u get to it and all you wana do is have a laf still...one day wont affect ur resultsa i can assure you!
But getting a day off school is not like getting a day off work. School involves your parents, i know mine won't let me miss it to play xbox. If GoW is on the Friday then you will definitely lose attendance from them.

And that goes for anyone else that still doesn't understand the concept of why one of the team events is on a Friday and expects us to change it as soon as they don't like it!
Understand this: at XL Summer, Gears of War 4v4 was on a Friday. It was still an extremely full event that ran very well with massive levels of competition. Running Gears of War on a Friday makes very little difference to attendance numbers.

I completely understand that parents may not allow their kids to have days off school but unfortunately thats just the way it is and you will have approx 3 months to beg them as part of your Christmas present. These events only come round 3 times per year so you need to start practising your grovelling and washing up skills. All we can do is make sure the dates dont clash with exams...the rest is upto you!
