UT3: Your Verdict?

So Unreal Tournament III has hit the shops and available now.

What are your first impressions on the latest FPS to hit the 360?

I haven't played it on 360 just yet, but I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, it looks like the competitive scenes haven't picked up on it as much as they did with UT2004, and I think that's a real shame. This was obviously built from the ground up to have great competitive potential.

Does the 360 version have dedicated servers? I've heard it has but can't see anything concrete

nah its p2p hosting like most games on the 360 now.
i love the game, a breath of old-school fresh air in a world of cover systems, dynamic crosshairs and auto-regen health. Doesnt seem to have much of an off-host disadvantage which is nice.

seriously looking forward to seeing what the players at XL make of it and how they play it :)

You can host dedicated servers, what about the dedicated midway servers for starters.

Its an amazing game, CTF is so good, its like the good old days of xbox.. none of this TDM garbage thank god! CTF and Duel seem to be the popular games, which is fairly obvious I guess seeing a the game was designed for them.

So in a nutshell, its a great team game and its a great singles game.

Bought it today, and TBH I'm already fed up with it. It's already at the point where I'm getting annihilated every single game as people are far far better than me. Is there no kind of matching system or ranking system at all? I'm new to console UT and not impressed.

Getting pretty bored of it already.

The bots are surprisingly intelligent, and while it's not as fun, they're good practice for online mode.

Didn't buy it for offline play. Really not liking it at the moment TBH - far better on PC, the controls are staggeringly bad.

UT3 is definitely an acquired taste, but dont worry Dan...I'm crap at it as well! lol :D

You weren't that bad when I played you Dan. I went a bit easy on you as you had already said you were crap and didn't like it too much lol. Otherwise I would have started spawntrapping you and shiz. But I agree good players should play good players. I'm playing games and winning like 60 - 4 in 15 mins lol. Need to get some of these good Dig players on my list.

Just a terrible matchmaking system letting it down. There is no way I should have been matched with the #1 duels player after ten minutes online with the game. No way.

Actually won a duel this morning, first victory :p

Single player is far too easy even on Godlike - I got that 'Untouchable' achievement on my first bot match, the AI is the same on Deck as it has been in UT for aaaaages.

Multiplayer is growing on me. It's still weird control-wise though, but I upped my sens nearly to max and it's getting close to PC controls. Much easier.

I know what you mean about the controls on the consoles.On PS3, I always resort to taking my keyboard and mouse off my PC. Joypads just aren't precise enough for a game this fast.

Exactly. I've upped my sens to max and it's only just 'nearly there'. The game is too fast for consoles despite being about 15% slower.

Yes this game grow on you at first i think is about learning about the maps.

PS Use the mic glitch so you dont have to hold down the talk botton.:)

What to do is:-

Hold you talk button down
Pull your headset wire out of the controller or swirch off the wireless
Put your headset wire back into the controller or switch back on the wireless headset
Relese your talk button
This the leaves the voice channel open all the time.

It's far from 'best game ever' - it's not even the best Unreal Tournament ever (99 beats it on so many levels) but it's growing on me now. Really wasn't impressed at first.

On the 360, Dan. It's called my opinion.

I still think Halo is the best team game, but considering I've hated 1v1's on every game, this has shown me them in a new light.

Ive got my copy of the game a couple of days ago the campaign in my opinion was great but the online play is hard to get in to for me as to the pace of it but i think its a great game.

Im getting in a day or so, it looks amazing and i love really fast games, DMC 4 ftw, i so wish that game was xbox live.
But yeah i love that kind of game, im not so sure about the huge guns though, looks a little overpowered for some weapons and powerups

I loved it on the PC, I'm loving it on the 360...Feels weird that it is something like 40% slower though.

All I need to do now is learn to use a controller accurately, luckily my Flak Cannon/Rocket Launcher combo don't need any aim :D
