* Before i start admin's feel free to move this as for some strange reason i cannot post this in the News! * Thanks
No here goes the dreaded post!
Morning all,
So you have all been waiting for the spring update now for a while, yes! well the next part of this thread aint going to go down very well and i expect to be banned and insaulted  but here goes.
There will be "NO" Spring update this year for the xbox360, This of course means that the rumored Spring update feature that has been leaking all over the internet is not true, so god knows where that came from and it wern't us. anyhow instead of putting resources into a Spring update, its been decided to focus our energy into "building the proper infrastructure and scale for the service" (ahem, more reliability) < never came from me. But all is not lost in the land of updates,
We will be rolling out a change to the DRM policy in June that'll allow content owners to re-license XBLA and XBLM content to a single console. This move will make said content available when disconnected from Xbox Live.
Finally, we learn that the Xbox Live Arcade will get a metaphorical Spring cleaning as Microsoft plans to remove under-performing Arcade titles. Games that have been on the market for over six months, have a Metacritic average lower than 65% and a conversion rate below 6% will be targeted for de-listing. A move that Microsoft hopes will streamline the service and open it up to bigger and better things.
Wel thats just about how to boss said it, he has had various interveiws with news guys this morning so you should here this around the net today!.
Sorry to dissappoint you and wish i could of told you sooner but rules are rules.

What a lot of bs.. MS claim over and over again that they listen to people, well obviously they don't or they don't listen to the right ones.
And they need better PR people or someone like Peter Moore again.
I'm a bit surprised as you were talking about the update so much before..
Yh basically as kon posted the update was just an update just to prepare the system for the next major update. Now i cannot announce anything to do with the "next major update!" But just expect to be amazed.
MS might amaze you in the next update! well i hope so from what i have heard its quite good and i am glad to hear they are actually listening to the public's veiws.

This is crap. At least Sony actually do things - right or wrong, at least they are active.

What a foolish move. This year more than ever, Microsoft really need to exceed, or even just meet, expectations. The first half of the year has really gone well for Sony and Nintendo, with the release of the refreshed PSN Store and WiiWare. More and more, I'm starting to regard my 360 as my 'second' console, behind my PS3, and I honestly thought that'd never happen.
Get your bloody act together MS. No spring update is such a poor idea, especially when you ned to distract people from the luring glow of MGS4. You're throwing this generation away.

OMG, xbox live is the major selling point of 360 and they choose not to update it? The PSN is constantly being updated and will soon be on par with LIVE, this bad news

Personally I think they don't need to have an update and this is where the lack of proper PR comes in. They should've just announced and bigged up the news of the DRM fix. That would've been huge anyway.
And I honestly do not understand why MS are choosing to remove XBLA titles. especially as you cannot buy them anywhere.

lets face it, the **** titles shunt if bin on there anyway, what happend to quality control??

Quality control deals with compatitbility, bugs, issues, etc.
Do you mean that there are XBLA titles that you don't like or like to play and they shouldn't have been on there in the first place? If so, everyone's taste is different.

When will the DRM update be available?
Next month:
Yes, this new tool will officially launch next month on Xbox.com and will allow you to be able to consolidate these licenses onto one box so you can access things like Xbox LIVE Arcade games and TV show you have downloaded even if you are not online. Because this involved allowing users to re-download licenses for content that belongs to our partners it has taken some time to work out the agreements with them to allow this, but we have heard the concerns from folks about DRM and are happy to announce that everything is nearly in place to roll this out in June.

i justify my comments with the example of the 'yaris' game, download it and take it for a spin, im sure u will thoroughly enjoy:p

Yaris can be fun on Live. I have it, I've played it and I've actually had fun on Live. Plus it's free meaning someone [Toyota] paid them shitloads of money and it wouldn't get removed anyway, thus indicating another flaw with the concept.

flaw with what concept?

They want to remove XBLA games. Games with a metacritic less than 65% and less than 6% conversion rate.
Well, that still leaves games like Yaris there. A sponsor paid for the game, everyone dl it cause it was free and it will remain.
And the whole point of XBLA games is that it's there and easily accessible. I've bought some games just to have a go on them for a while.

yh but the point im trying to make is that LIVE's flooded with poor games which sould of never made it on there, which im sure the majority of people will agree with, if you (the populace) cant accpet that concept your an idiot

Yaris? Whereabouts is that?

Do not call me an idiot. And majority doesn't mean it's good. If the majority of people buy an EA game, does it make that game good?
Yaris? Whereabouts is that?
You need a US account for that. http://majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/10/arcade-yaris-free.aspx

I agree getting rid of arcade games is a stupid idea. Are they cluttering up the arcade selection or something? What's the harm in keeping them? At least that way you have a huge selection of titles that you might like instead of just the ones everyone else likes. What's next, stop selling retail games because they aren't getting good reviews? Stupid!

Why are people having such a benny about there not being an update? If M$ are using this time and resource to introduce more reliability then that's great. I'd also hope that at the same time they are adding in some scalability for the great stuff EduTech has been hinting at.
Look at it this way - what if they'd rolled out the "new stuff" and XBL died because it was so darn good that everyone hammered it to ****? Even more whinging would follow.

I know what you're saying Moose, and yes introducing reliability and scalability measures is a good idea. The problem is that there are some things that have been hinted at, revealed, or wanted for quite some time (group chat, video chat in games aside from Arcade titles) and then conveniently ignored and disguised as a 'reliability' update.

Were these things quoted on official sources? Or just Internet gossip?
I'm just as disappointed as anyone else when it comes to no update, I just don't think it's quite the "OMFG M$ U SUX. PS3 W1LL NOW PWN" drama that seems to be overcoming the BK's...

PS3 WILL OWN U XBOX N00BS
Nah. I think the whole arcade thing is abit durastic on MS's behalf. The no update I'm not too fussed about :P
