D.,
I am away on holidays on the 26th for a few weeks, would that pose a problem?

26th June or July? It won't be a problem if you can get back with a reasonable time before the deadline of the group section, which I expect to be the end of July.

Silk - It's the FIFA08 game mate, just with a recreation of the real life tournament. It's FIFA08 due to more people owning the game and it being more popular.
Gaskin - back to PES, beatch :p

Teams will be drawn at registration close - which will be Friday night. So you have from then to play with the teams. The group stage will be a good length anyway (similar to the real tournament) so you don't have to play right away if you want team practise.

I see you have given us upon ages to complete just 3 games!!!!
In the finals can we have them closer to each other. For example we play last 16. then 2 days later last 8. 2 days later last 4. otherwise it just takes stupid times.
Also can u make the deadline shorter for the group stage we only got to play 3 people!
Gaskin
06-06-2008, 11:13 PM
Well the thing is some people don't have as much free time as others, so they can't simply knock out six twelve minute games in a couple of days. They struggle to get time to play on their Xbox, as they're seeing friends, other halves or family.. etc. I personally would like to see the group stage be played quite quickly, but it's entirely up to players in the competition in how fast we advance.
Renegade

Robert - it's due to follow the real tournament as closely as possible, which ends on the 18th. We can't have it end on the 18th because it's a Wednesday - more games are played at weekends than any other time, therefore each player has three weekends - including this one. Players have an extremely short amount of time - I know it's summer but even I'm busier now than I was during Uni time. Players need time to play the fixtures, and hopefully they will be played sooner. Three weekends is only fair. I don't just pull a random date out of the air!
Another problem is that the majority of us will want to watch most of the matches, and with 2 every day that leaves quite a short amount of time each day to try and wedge in a fixture.
The last tournament - Be A Pro - took three weeks to play ONE fixture. The Semi-Final. These things are hard to predict - we have to give players the chance to play fixtures when they are available. Nobody wants to force a fixture time on them and make them play. If you can get your games done before the deadline, that's great. If all the games are done before then, brilliant - I will bring the knockout stages forward.
Remember, it's a deadline, not an instruction.
KONSPIRACY
06-06-2008, 11:15 PM
2 weeks is a bit long for the group stage tbh but you may actually be surprised how hard it can be to get all your fixtures arranged and played with less time than that. At least 2 weeks provides sufficient time to get them all completed. Obviously the knockout stages will have shorter deadlines.

I just find a free slot that I have, and play as many games as possible in that slot, i.e. This Saturday i'm playing both legs against two people in one evening, leaving me with 2 weeks to get the last match done. Organisation FTW

Unfortunately, some players still see it as an opportunity to leave every game as long as they can. We have to cater for that, even though it's frowned upon.

Hiiiii
(I'm not really going to leave my games for ages if I can help it, but the comedic timing was just too good an opportunity to miss)
I do however want just a little bit more time to practice with my team before I go diving into the group matches. Not all of us were blessed with a top team Luck-skin..

Bump.
What would everyone think to a losers tournament?
We all have practised with these teams, and some of us have even grown a slight soft spot for the team we are competing with, it seems a shame to only play 2 or 3 games with them then go back to playing with only the top teams. How would everyone feel if we were to run a tournament which ran along side the real tournament, just for fun, containing the people who didn't qualify from there groups. (Yes theis is because I am most definitely out, and what!? I am happy to run it to lower the workload on Renegade. No prizes would be on offer, and most of the big teams would not be involved as they will have qualified (apart from a select few).
This would not be like the loses bracket in a halo tournament, and their would be no way of getting back into the real tournament, but would just be a fun way of keeping these teams going since a lot of us have really enjoyed the friendly competition without everyone using Barcelona or Brazil.
If anyone thinks this is ridiculous and ruins the point of the group stages then let me know, otherwise I am very much considering this to keep some friendly competition alive. (Plus it would give me and Renegade something to do ;) )

What about bringing Losers from the winners knockout into the losers tournament after they get knocked out?
Like a champions league where the teams that didnt make it goes to the UEFA?

It's doable - I'm sure Leigh can draw up some fixtures. It will also be easier because at that point the proper groups would be decided and I won't have to keep an eye on people....
Say if someone lost in the actual thing in the next knockout stage, would they all go into thelosers though?
No. It's not a losers bracket, just some entertainment for the rest of us that have been knocked out.

10-06-2008, 06:16 PM
No, it would be simply for the people who lost in the group. Other wise it would be a mega long unending tournament. I will run it so that Renegade can stay on track with the main tournament, and Gaskin can keep an eye on both. This is like the champions league teams filtering into the Uefa, in that the teams that didn't get through the group are the only entrants. In the champions league the teams who get knocked out in the knockout stages are officially out. There has to be a cut off point somewhere.
What I will do is use the normal draw but using 3rd place and 4th place instead of the winners and runners up in each group. The only problem with this is that there may, and probably will be players that were no shows within the group stages (assuming there are any come the end)

Well...
Group A
is still undecided
Group B
1st Gaskin [Germany]
2nd Dennis [Poland]
Group C
1st Davi3s Lar [France]
2nd Prime Voltz [Netherlands]
Group D
Tomacro [Russia] is pretty much going through, unless Sweden hammer Spain by loads.
Corkin [Spain] pretty much likely going through, all they need is not to lose by more than like 20 goals in the last fixture.
Group A2
1st Silk [Portugal]
2nd MrColl [Switzerland]
Group B2
1st Ashleyisking [Germany]
2nd place still TBC. (imo looks like Poland will progress unless there's some messed up last few games, so that's iffy.)
Group C2
1st R Crux [Netherlands]
2nd CaptSuperman [Italy]
Group D2
1st Hawksey [Sweden]
2nd looks very likely to be Krucial [Greece], if he gets one point off Nimac [Russia] he's through, and even if he loses, as long as he doesn't lose by 5 goals he's through.
So that's 10 definite places out of 16, then 3 pretty likely people going through. One very iffy likely chance. Then Group A need to sort out their final places. I don't think it's doing that bad to be honest.
-----------------------------------------------
At the moment the Last 16 fixtures are like this:
Group A winner vs Dennis [Poland]
Gaskin [Germany] vs Group A Runner Up
Davi3s Lar [France] vs Corkin [Spain] or Tomacro [Russia]
Corkin [Spain] or Tomacro [Russia] vs Prime Voltz [NetherLands]
---
Silk [Portugal] vs Group B2 runner up (most likely Poland)
AshleyIsKing [Germany] vs MrColl [Switzerland]
R Crux [Netherlands] vs Krucial [Greece] (Most likely, depends if last game goes insane..)
Hawksey [Sweden] vs CaptSuperman [Italy]
