Please read and understand both the FIFA08: UEFA Euro 2008 and the MatchBox360 General Rules listed below:

FIFA08: UEFA Euro 2008 Rules:

Group Stage: by SUnday 22nd June
Knockout Stage: TBC

All players must be registered on this site and be resident in the UK or Europe to enter.

The tournament will follow the UEFA Euro 2008 format with group and knockout stages accordingly.

Groups are pre-determined by UEFA Euro 2008 groups.

The top 2 players from each group will progress to the knockout stage.

Teams will be drawn at random - and players must use that team for the duration of the tournament.

You are to play each other twice as part of any one fixture alternating host accordingly.

The host will set up the game and play as the home team.

Fixtures are to be arranged in the appropriate fixture threads accordingly.

Results for both games are to be reported in the appropriate fixture threads accordingly.

Group Stage:
The aggregate score will determine the winner or draw.
Points in the group stage will be awarded as follows:

Win = 3pts
Draw = 1pt
Loss = 0pts

Knockout Stage:
In the event of the aggregate score resulting in a draw, an additional game of 4 minutes per half will be played hosted by the away team stated in the fixture. If teams are still tied then the fixture will be decided on penalties.

All fixtures will be played using the following settings:

Stadium: Wembley
Teams: as drawn at random
Half Length: 6 Minutes
Injuries: On
Offsides: On
Bookings: On

Please note: It is the responsibility of all players to ensure the game settings are correct, and by playing in and completing the game you accept the game settings set by the host player.

The player drawn as the home team must set up the game using the settings above, then invite the other player to join. Onve the first game is completed then the player drawn as the away team must host the second game accordingly. Please ensure you have sufficient room on your friends list to add / receive friend requests from your group opponents.

If as the host, there is no response from your opponent for upto 15 minutes after the scheduled start time then the result will be declared as "no show".

If as the away team, you do not receive a friend request or game invite by the scheduled start time then you must firstly add your host to your friends list, and if after 15 minutes there has been no response then the result will be declared as "no show".

A 2-0 win will be awarded per leg for any fixtures determined to be "no show". A "no show" is at the discretion of the admins, and may include quitting the tournament prematurely.

Please be aware that it is the responsibility of both players to ensure the results are reported correctly. If you have any issues with the reported result you must contact an MatchBox360 representative immediately. We advise that you are able to provide clear photographic evidence in case the result is questioned.

Any performance of known glitches in the game will be classed as cheating. If you suspect a team to have used glitches, cheats or abusive behaviour, you must provide sufficient evidence of reasonable quality and the appropriate action will be taken.

Full fixture details & results will be made available online as soon as the results are posted in the forums.

The Matchbox360 FIFA08: UEFA Euro 2008 tournament winners will now receive two prizes:

The first, an Xbox 360 game of their choice!

The second, an International replica shirt of their choice!

What happens if a player quits out? I was 1 - 0 up at half time, part way through the second half my opponent went offline for 2 minutes.

Renegade
07-06-2008, 02:32 PM
We ask players to play the remaining time on the clock by playing one half of a new game - so play the first half of another match from 1-0 up. Most players have a good reason for quitting out - maybe lagging out or a disconnection. Seeing as he went off and came on 2 minutes later, that would have been the problem. If he is not willing to replay, you will get a 2-0 default win as per the no show rules.

What is the ruling with teams drawing on points?

I believe, although further research is needed, that the official Euro 2008 tournament is using results between the teams who are tied. Will this be the way the place is decided in this tournament, or will we be using goal difference?

TI Potential
08-06-2008, 08:33 AM
If teams are tied in their groups then it obviously will go down to the Goal Difference

IcemanLeigh
08-06-2008, 12:19 PM
Why obviously? This tournament has been run as closely as possible with the real tournament, so why is it obvious that we would do goal difference, when the real tournament (I'm pretty sure) is doing results against each other.

The option is there for both, but in no way is it obvious that we will be using goal difference.

TI Potential
08-06-2008, 12:25 PM
LOL, well that clearly an error by me, i never knew the Euro had a rule as such, sorry :)

Renegade

According to the official rules, the tie breaker order is as follows:

(a) Greater number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question.
(b) Goal difference resulting from the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).
(c) Greater number of goals scored in the matches between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal).
(d) Goal difference in all the group matches.
(e) Greater number of goals scored in all the group matches.
(f) Coefficient of points from the last two qualifying competitions for the final rounds of the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008 (points gained and divided by the number of matches played).
(g) Fair Play conduct of the teams (final tournament).
(h) A drawing of lots by the Organising Committee.

We will be following the rules exactly, with the exception of rules F and G. If it comes down to H, the staff will decide. Notice that overall group goal difference is D.

A new rule i just heard on tv if your interested is that the tournament is split into two. Groups A-B and C-D. Teams from A and B cant meet teams from C and D until the final. So there is a possibility of meeting the qualifiers from your own group in the semi final. Just thought id mention it:D

Renegade

Yep, it will be run exactly the same mate. Thanks anyway.

Quarters:

25 Winner A v Runner Up B
26 Winner B v Runner Up A
27 Winner C v Runner Up D
28 Winner D v Runner Up C

Semis:

29 Winner 25 v Winner 26
30 Winner 27 v Winner 28

Final:

31 Winner 29 v Winner 30

Grand Final:

32 Winner 31 v Winner 31b

PLEASE NOTE

Effective immediately, the following rules have been brought into place:

1. Any player or team who is deemed to be inactive by failing to post in the appropriate fixture threads or failing to arrange/play games will be removed from the tournament by MatchBox360 admin.

2. A 2-0 win will be awarded per leg for any fixtures determined to be "no show". A "no show" is at the discretion of the admins, and may include quitting the tournament prematurely. (previously a 2-0 win for the entire match)

This is to discourage players from using the 2-0 defeat to their advantage to keep their goal difference as low as possible, and to make sure that all players are active throughout their registered tournaments.

Thanks.

Anybody deemed to not be making suitable effort to arrange and play their fixtures. It's at admin discretion and each case will be reviewed independently.

If necessary, yes. The thing with Neo is that he's never usually inactive - he was our XL PES2008 winner, our FIFA08 Be A Pro winner, and so it's surprising that he hasn't turned up in this one yet. We're not sure exactly why, but we are trying to get hold of him and get things moving as soon as possible.

Dan isn't making an exception at all for me, as if you're able to read, you'll see a post I made in the thread stating that I can play now, and that I've added all of you, which is making an effort to arrange matches (no?). I wasn't online all week.

No, that's not the case at all - the fact of the matter is that you've had an attitude problem from the very start of this tournament, and the trouble-making is neither funny nor endearing. It's wearing extremely thin. Konspiracy has warned you that another outburst will not be tolerated, and now Gaskin has given you a (deserved) infraction.

Personal attacks and insults are not tolerated, no matter who they come from. I've had infractions in the past for the same thing. Stop doing it.

I've had a 'problem' with your attitude since day 1. Get it right.

You can't simply insult someone's grandmother and think it's acceptable, especially when it's completely off topic. At least we've found the first ever person to be genuinly upset about recieving an infraction, ah the simple things that make me smile.

That's so in the past it's freakin' geriatric. We made the decision and stick by it, and by bringing it up every time you've got a bee in your bonnet you're not helping yourself.

You got through to the knockout stages - and if you want to stay there I suggest you revise your attitude and play nice.

Renegade
18-06-2008, 10:07 PM
That's not inactive. Inactive is not bothering to organise or play anything. People have more things to do in life than just sit and play matches, let them get the games done in their own time and let us worry about whether they are inactive or not.

You also have enough time to interfere in every aspect of this tournament despite being warned numerous times, so I don't think you're an ideal candidate to lecture anyone on the merits or values of spare time. If we want or need opinions on how to run tournaments, we will ask for it.

If you are seeking justification - I'm on here literally all day, when I should be working. I'm also sitting here waiting for the results of my University degree, so forgive me if the FIFA tournament has been pushed down in priorities a little. You don't see anyone organising? No, you probably don't - seeing as a disproportionate amount of time has been taken up trying to work out new rules to stop people cheating. We've never had people cheating before and didn't expect people to be doing it this time. These matters are not dealt with on the public forums, they are dealt with on the staff forums and take up masses of our time. Want someone to blame? There's your answer.

Also, how can you tell who I've emailed, MSN'd, Private Messaged, or contacted regarding inactivity? If you expect me to post on the forum every time I took time out to get in touch with remaining playes to encourage them to play, you're going to be disappointed. This is done privately and not to be divulged on the forums and picked apart by countless players that insist on making our jobs difficult.

A deadline was set. That deadline has not been reached. Nobody has three matches to play, everybody has played at least one match. The players that were inactive have been contacted and have started to play. Any further inactivity is our decision to make.

End of discussion.

On another note, this tournament should have been seeded.

So you noticed all the top seeds being split up across Tournaments 1 and 2 then? That's about as much as can be done with a random draw tournament.

I see - well, it was something I thought of doing, but the fun of this tournament was that anyone could get any team. It was just supposed to be a fun tournament alongside the real thing to be honest, and wanted everyone to have a fair chance of getting a big team. I think it worked out quite well looking at the tables, and the teams going through.
