View Full Version : Gears 2 cracks down on Achievement whores

We've all encountered it; begging foreigners on Xbox Live, crying to the rest of the lobby to help them unlock their multiplayer Achievements via suicide, game-breaking behavior and more, thus spoiling the fun for everyone else.

Thankfully, it looks like Gears of War 2 at least is going to fight against the whiney Achievement whores, by limiting the amount of accolades players can unlock in a single multiplayer game.

Speaking to CVG at Microsoft's media summit this afternoon, which you might've heard about already, Gears honcho Cliff Bleszinski said Epic was going to be "throttling" the amount of achievements players can unlock at any given point.

"If you're going for headshots," he gave as an example, "you get one headshot that counts and any other headshots won't count towards your Achievement, so players don't just play to get headshots the entire round just to get Achievements."

Cliffy B also revealed that players will be able to track the progress of their Achievements in Gears 2 (which is looking lovely, by the way):

"I don't want to get into too much of the multiplayer right now, but one thing I can confirm is that we are doing Achievement progress so that players will be able to essentially track how far they're getting with each Achievement in whichever mode."

Sounds good. No more "help me get this" on MM. I was afraid GoW2 was going to be like H3.

tbh i think that the only acheivments you should get is 100 for completing a game 100% there it makes it better as you do not need help from other people online

This is terrible, seriously. Basically youve got to play 100 games to get nearly all the online achievements because you're likely to get one of each of the ones you need in every game you play. So will get them all at roughly the same time. It really wasnt a problem in the first one, i dont remember once after the first week or so going into a ranked multiplayer match where achievement boosting was going on, when they introduced it for Annex player matches then yes, it certainly did, but not for weapon achieves in ranked. Anyone that did try was just an easy kill, it did not spoil the game in any way. The only problem was people whoring weapons to get their achieve, though again this really wasnt a problem after the first few weeks, and i personally found it the way i developed my skill with each of the weapons, using it in every round i could.

Now not getting achievements when they were deserved and the horrendous, gamebreaking, host advantage problems are the ones that need to be sorted.
