View Full Version : What do you miss in Liberty City?

So now that we've all had some time to play with it and presumeably some time to explore all islands is there something you miss or wanted to see?
Middle Park is extremely unimaginative.
Algonquin is not as thought out as I thought it would be. Of course it's got Chinatown and Star Junction, but you never really feel like you're in a different part.
A sports stadium or an indoor racing track.
More outside areas, like a zoo, more parks, a big square and have missions using them.
And more that I can't think of now.
I mean yes, GTA IV was all about Niko, the immigrant, but it seems like the game didn't use any of the great settings for missions. Why wasn't there a mission with the Statue of Happiness? Or at Star Junction?

Seriously, Rockstar really messed up with this. Everything else is just nitpicking in comparison to how much I miss this feature.
We could have done with a bit more to do in Alderney. It reminds me of Shoreside Vale. It's just.. there. Alderney is a lovely part of Liberty City, and I really wish there was more to do there.

Is there still Turf wars? I missed them on San Andreas :p and Planes :(

Dinny, why do you miss it? It was pointless.
Besides, I currently have four properties on GTA IV - already too many, considering the taxis can get you to any of them in ten seconds.
I miss the parachute - jumping out of choppers and launching a paratrooper assault in multiplayer could have been immense!

Property, of course. Although I remember saying in another thread on how I had so much money, well, it isn't really all that much ever since I started splashing out on rockets! And **** me they're expensive!
Another thing I miss is random weapons littered round the place. And health icons and armor. I've found maybe five guns while playing the game and I'm sure those were there because of missions. It just makes me feel like there's not all that much incentive to explore.
Turf wars sucked. A lot. There was no real point in them.

I hated the turf wars. They were so damn pointless. I do miss the parachute, though. When you're trying to land on the top of the Statue of Happiness, and you keep missing by inches, it's pretty annoying. Especially when it costs 10 grand to die.
There is actually a lot of health and armour around, but they're hidden almost as well as the bloody pigeons in some cases.

Land on it - balance the little chopper on top, then get out.
Turf wars were awful.

Isn't the third island suppose to be New Jersey, what with the Newark port? I immediately thought that because any Sopranos fan would immediately notice it. I think it's quite distinctive. Then, I missed the fact that they didn't get 'Woke Up This Morning' by Alabama 3.
In relation to the map, I missed the sprawling areas between cities from San Andreas, but, then, there's something about Liberty City that makes it great and entirely better than San Fierro, Las Venturas, Los Santos (?), and Vice City.
Turf wars were very annoying. I can't remember if they contributed to the 100% game progress, but I do remember capturing all the areas just in case. It was very tedious.
Planes wouldn't really work in this map.

Turf wars were fun. Pointless but when you've finished the story mode its something to do. As it wasn't online it made it more fun. I guess the most thing i do miss is Planes and as Renegade said Parachutes

Yeah, I'll try that with the Maverick. EDIT: Ref. Renegade's "land on the b*tch" idea
While I'm on the subject of Mavericks, WTF is with the heli choice this time around? In Vice City alone we had Mavericks, Sparrows, shitty sea planes, and the apache. Fair enough, they don't want any military crap in IV, but can we at least have the Sparrow? Choosing between Maverick, Yellow Maverick, and Annihilator isn't nearly as varied as I'd like.

bicycles for a start.
a place to save with a helipad on the roof and a helicopter waiting for you, there are plenty of helipads dotted about but u cant get to em with out a chopper !
they built a skate park, but no skate boards ? wtf ?
a dirt track and races to go with the dirt track.
alot more variation in missions and weapons. how many missions can you honestly do with the same ****ing smg, by the end every mission just feels the same as the 1st.
some come back on the decisions you made during the mission, did u kill him if u did what could have come back from it ? did u save him ? maybe he will help you out some time ?
taxi missions paramedic missions fire man missions......
A hell of alot better radio stations next time round, i think this was the biggest disappointment for me.

I think the radio stations are absolutely brilliant. None of this 'big names' crap - proper music.
I miss push bikes :(
I mainly miss some kind of desert like open space, although the new city is really good.
I don't really mind about properties taken out and weapons littered around the map woulnd't work in Liberty City. Ye the radio is good now, lots of stations to listen to rap.
But like Cat said I think some kind of big sports place where you can do the demolition derby and also a cd player or something like it in the car so you could play music from your hd without using the dashboard, which gets annoying when you are doiing missions and have to turn it on and off.
Mostly I'm missing the game though, it got taken away from me after an argument with my rents :(

I miss the litered weapons, and hidden packages, and including the taxi missions like the other gta games, including the reward from gta 3 a maroon taxi with spikes on bumpers and much faster and stronger.
and the parachutes, becuase now all i see is watching niko fall from over 500ft landinmg back first, plus the radio stations music are lame. the worst songs i've ever heard from a gta game
Renegade

Bad because you've never heard of them? The songs are great, they're just not high profile.

Yeah, all this complaining about the radio stations. Trust me, when you all grow older and re-visit this game at some point, you're going to be glad they didn't include 'The Kooks', 'Kasier Chiefs', or insert band who all look and sound the same as the band that went before them. This game has reminded me how good the Smashing Pumpkins were.
And who could begrudge 'New York Groove'? That is probably the perfect song for this game, especially for players who played GTA III and spent a lot of time in the old Liberty City.

The radio is different ot that of SA and VC because of Liberty's setting. In Vice City, and San Andreas, they recreated the contemporary atmosphere with the big hits of 1986 and 1992. GTAIV is set in 2008, so it would be stupid for R* to pay afor buttload for songs you're hearing 10 times a day on the radio/TV anyway. I don't want to listen to the Kaiser Chiefs or Amy Winehouse in GTA. Another defence I have for the radio in IV (and III, for that matter) is the fact that it reflects the New York indie music scene brilliantly, especially Radio Broker.

I think what the radio stations are possibly missing are big, epic songs. Like 'Welcome to the Jungle'. But they make more than up for it with the songs they have.
I think the OST is excellent.

Two words: Multiplayer Sanchez.
Two people get on the back of the sanchez and try and do backflips. Its funny becuase 90% one person misses by an inch (and you laugh at them on the floor) or they do something hilarious. I was playing free roam with a bunch of people and there were 4/5 of us doing flips (3/4 bikes = 6/8 people) and two people went for the same jump over the opposite side, crashed into eachother and went flying. One of the sanchez's hit me (who was doing a Gap from one ramp to the other) and knocked me off and the other sanchez went really high in the sky (like the Crackdown glitch, but to a lesser extent) and we were all laughing at how high they went. Unfortunatly, the game froze for them, so they didnt see, but we did. Two bodies and a sachez went up, one blown up sanchez came down.

yes, but classics isn't and neither is the other one I can't remember the name of, the one that plays Kanye West and other stuff
Theres that latin american station as well

Does that statement count for Kanye West, because I nicked a car and it had one of his crappy tunes on the radio, and I instantly switched it over.
Id rather listen to Kaiser Chiefs than that crap.
I miss those banger races in the stadium like on Vice City, and I found what was left of Salvatore Leone's mansion on the 3rd island, and it must have done it up since GTA3, but now its derelict, and tramps hang around it.
And no 8 ball's bomb shop.

the game was really a dissapointment to me, ive finished and dont really have a desire to go back and play through again. i also dont find mulitplayer that fun. competitevly its pointless with auto-aim and a big coloured spot showing where you are and free mode gets tire-some after youve begged someone to wait for you in there car for you to only stop, whip the rocket launcher out and blow them up for the Nth time. on the subject of radio IMO its poor, someone posted cause you never heard of the songs, that hasntanything to do with it, the stations just arent enjoyable, id never heard of the majority of songs off vice city and san andreas but the tracks were appealing and i know most of the words to the songs when i hear them played now, the same i dont feel can be said for IV... :(

Are you sure you have exactly the right places. I used a map that showed the locations, but when i looked at the text messages the "near" happened to be a few blocks off. If i was to use the text messages as a guide it would have taken 3x as long.
As for the radio station, im sure that if you go back to <Insert Retailer> and told them the problem, and give them a reciept, then they would be happy to relace it.

That is such a stupid thing to say, there are loads of songs I dont like on GTA radio but do I expect R* to take out all the rock and other stuff and replace it with rap? They have to cater for more then 1 persons music tastes.
And Kanye is more successful then Kaiser Chiefs ever will be so I'm sure more people would prefer him then some repetitive stuff from the KCs.
The main thing that annoys me about the radio is that I always hear the same songs when I switch over, couldn't they of made it start at a random place each time you change?

I wouldn't listen to Kanye West on my MP3, but his songs are good pop songs (and for anyone who wants to come in and say, that he's not pop, don't waste your time: hiphop/pop/rap = mainstream made in studio). Good music, and the lyrics never meant **** and never will amount to anything other than ****.
Kaiser Chiefs and x 'long-hair' emo-look bands - boring to listen to.
People like Kanye West and Justin Timberlake have very talented music people backing them and making their music; they know how to make a good track. Hell, even Britney Spears makes better music than the Kaiser Chiefs - 'break the ice' is a good track, with a sick video.
