That just confirms to me that GTA IV isn't as big as I'd hoped it would be.
The 100% list for Bully was more comprehensive than that.

People will complain about anything...
23 hours racked up on the game, and I'm at 45%. Pretty f'ing big.
Cormac
02-05-2008, 04:18 PM
You've finished 45% of the game in a matter of 4 days and you think thats fine?
Some people have very low expectations of what a deep experience should be. I'm not saying its ****, I love it, all I'm saying is that I don't think its going to last me very long unless I drag it out which is a disappointment since I was hoping it would keep me playing for months.
Pretty f'ing big but not f'ing big enough!
Gaskin
02-05-2008, 04:25 PM
You'd be playing it for months if you were an average gamer, and played it only one or two hours a day at most. But a lot of people on these forums are excessive gamers, and try and finish the game, and will play 6+ hours a day if not more. Now I might be wrong but Rockstar probably didn't make the game for an excessive gamer who will finish it in a week. Does that make sense?
Cormac

No.

Regardless of any irony you may feel you've imbedded in your post there I honestly do feel I offer a lot more than most of this sites regulars.
Anyhoo, how about you guys just accept my original opinions as vaild and step off the make Cormac justify his post train.
Gaskin

Posting simply 'No', is not an acceptable post, it's pointless and didn't put anything toward your point.
Anyway, your opinion is your opinion. So you may in fact be right that there is not enough gameplay to suit you, but there may be more than enough for others.

I agree that this game wont last as long, and you idea of rockstar making it short for the not so hardcore gamer is retarded, how do you explain the other games in the series then ? they were HUGE in comparison to this game.
wheres the taxi missions, wheres the paramedic missions, wheres the firetruck missions ?
they have left alot out of this one, but im sure they will all appear in the sequel
Renegade

The taxi missions went - now you get helicopter ride missions, package delivery missions, export emails/texts, an internet browser, bowling pool and darts, etc.
Cormac - to put it into context, I started playing GTAIV at 10am this morning. I'm still on it now, the only things I've moved for is to eat and go to the toilet. I'm posting this from a PDA in my gaming chair, so I don't have to go to the computer. So yeah, after four days of that to only just have hit 50%, I think is pretty large.
Cormac
02-05-2008, 09:33 PM
I've barely played it because I don't want to finish it too quickly and then start craving Ninja Gaiden 2 with the same intensity that I was craving GTA IV before it arrived and yet not really having spent that much time playing the game I've managed to finish 25% of it. So after 4 days of that I think its a little bit on the small size.
I was saying to somebody the other day that I am thinking of it as GTA III for this generation. GTA III was awesome but was nowhere near as developed as either Vice City or San Andreas. Vice City arrived only a year after GTA III came out so I'm hopeful that now they have the engine they can churn out another one fairly quickly, heres hoping!
Just to clarify, I love GTA IV, its great. I just hoped it would be bigger.

Yeah, I thought that too a couple of days ago. It feels shallow as III was somewhat (note: this is the context of considering this game the best ever).

Mazzy, you posting the word retarded is sooooo ironic. :D
Rockstar didn't make it short, they've made it reasonably big, yet concentrated more on graphics etc this time round quite clearly. And the game still is HUGE for those who don't set out to complete it by playing 10 chuffing hours a day. You're complaining for no reason..

That doesn't make much sense?
And there was a lot of money to be made with the taxi missions, especially when doing several in a row. But then again it's not like you need money much in this game, there's plenty from missions and you can't really buy anything.
Gaskin
02-05-2008, 11:25 PM
It makes perfect sense. I was implying that taxi missions were completely irrelevant in the old games, but now there could be achievements based around them, which is completely worth it.
Edit: Except I put was instead of were, corrected.

gaskin the grpahics are **** on this game. the more i play it the more i dislike it, it definately does feel like gta 3, wheres the mansions, your crime empire composed of businesses? the decent radio stations, its more like a step back from san andreas which was already a step bk from vice city. the giddy rpg style theyve tried to imply into the game aswell is an epic fail, its just f*ckin annoyin, your half way through a mission but becuase you cant wipe romans arse and do a mission at the same time u get penalised which then results in you having to get your "like" and "respect points" up. also as cat pointed out, my guys fukin loaded yet i cant spend this money on any justifible products such as housing and busineses, you can only spend so much on weapons and food, id spend more on clothes if the customisation in this game wasnt so poor either. emd ramt :)

wheres the mansions, your crime empire composed of businesses? Hey, this is a different story line. You'd be complaining if they just re-used the timed out gangster plot. I enjoy this change of story line, i think it's what GTA needed.
Although i agree there isn't much to spend the money on.
DinnyHoon
03-05-2008, 01:45 AM
I thought the same when I first got a big wad of dough (6 figures). I still think that to acertain degree, money is no longer an object once you have 100 grand in your back pocket. However, hospital bills can be anywhere between 2 and 5 grand, weapons are sodding expensive ($15,000 for a rocket launcher, plus $5000 per rocket), and it's nice to be able to ride cabs everywhere, even at $60 a pop.
Renegade
03-05-2008, 07:56 AM
I agree that there isn't much to spend money on, but I'm absolutely ecstatic that there is none of this 'lowly gangster rising to the top' crap (mansions) that's been done so much. Niko starts off as scum, and ends up as slightly better off scum with enemies and a revenge mission. The whole point is that he isn't in Liberty City to get rich and buy mansions - which is totally driven home by the desperation of Roman to get rich quick.
It's no coincidence that all the characters that are chasing money and fame end up in the sh*t. Rockstar ain't stupid.
Terbinator
03-05-2008, 08:56 AM
but when your surrounded by other lowlife beats from the east who own clubs and fancy houses who were once imports and rised somewhat up in the food chain why can't you. i agree san andreas was wank, u dont grow up in south central and become a don smooth unless your a sports star and start owning casinos and crap, but i atleast thought maybe after i'd eacked a few of these mob bosses i'd inherit or 'aquire' there dwellings, such as mikhail? on firefly island and his club.

and gaskin, reading my post, you see retard in the statement and you immediately turn it back on me, well done.......
the game is short , quite considerably shorter than its predecessors.
and the dig at "omfg no taxi missions means less gamer score" is bull. i didn't get any gamer score for playing trough gta 3 and its sequels and i still played the taxi missions 100% etc.
Gaskin
03-05-2008, 03:52 PM
It wasn't a dig, I was being serious..
Taxi missions on all other gta's were there just for 'fun'. Achievements are actually something that people work toward, and yet they take out the taxi missions when now people would have more incentive to do it.
I also called you a retard as a joke, calm down you big girl.

For fun, for cash, for 100% completion, for wanting to play the game.
Achievements don't give you that and are meaningless.

Achievements are more incentive than for purely cash on the game. Even you would realise that being a gamerscore whore, at least you used to be.

in the other game the paramedic mission gave you the health icon at your base and the police missions gave you the armour, cant remeber what the taxi missions gave you.
im not sure if you get anything in this game for doing, say the police missions im sure you do, other than the achiefments which are not meaningless. they give you a big number next to your name if your good at games, or a big number if you buy enough games.
ill probly aim for 1000 gs out of this game tho, they all seem attainable other than the kill a rockstar guy, not sure why thts in there.

Juast to clarify a few points:
The hidden packages are pigeons. There are 200 of them dotted about the city.
There ARE taxi missions, you can do them for Roman during the story mode. These, however, do not count toward 100% completion of the game.
There are no rampages.
Oh, and that funfair never opens. Curse you Rockstar!

THEN come and play free roam like yesterday :p. (I shot a helicopter down with a pistol, after about half an hour)
Cormac

If the pigeons are in place of hidden packages then why does the achievement say collect all of the hidden packages and not shoot all of the pigeons?
Regardless of the answer I haven't found any hidden packages and I haven't heard of anyone who has.
Edit: I just saw the achievement picture and it has a pigeon on it. So I guess its true. I've found 9 pigeons so far.

It probably says hidden package so as not to spoil the initial fun of finding out that the pigeons are the packages.

You can get up to 3 more 'friends' (girls) from love-meet.net. They probably count towards the achievement. And there are 2 or 3 helicopters at the Helitours bit on the south-east coast of Algonquin. Take one of those, and you can find a shitload more choppers (including Annihilator police copters) on skyscraper roofs.

I thought it was funny how she asked Niko to rent her an apartementon Alonquin when I turned up in a better car than usual. She also never criticised my clothing, unlike Kiki and Kate.
Erm, no, not really. The game wouldn't really work playing as a female character and I'd rather Rockstar continue concentrating on all the other stuff they can do best rather than throw in a female options just cause other games have it.
If you're that deperate to play as a woman, I know some of the previous GTA games had cheats to change the look of the main guy, like you could play as Candy Suxx on Vice City.

Kiki is like the hyper-nutty-girlfriend we've all had at one point or another. At times, I like the fact that she's needy, and at other times, I just want to dump her for being too needy. Can't win.
