MatchBox360 XL continues to set the standard for UK and European Xbox 360 eSports tournaments,
and we are pleased to announce that we will be moving to a new venue for the remainder of the XL 2008 season!
Further to the overwhelming success of our previous Xbox 360 eSports tournaments at the Birmingham NEC Toute Suite,
the time has come to take XL to the next level with a bigger and better venue for the console gaming community.

As stated, the first event will utilise approx 1000 square metres which is approx half of the Showroom but we hope to make this our new home and one day use the full Showroom plus the additional suites available. :cool:

To answer a few questions...

Catering:
I have been advised that the onsite catering is quality and will be available at reasonable prices (ie you wont have to pay £5 for a burger). There are local food outlets such as chip shops, newsagents, off licenses and the usual fast food places in the area which will be fully detailed within a few weeks.

Dates:
I can confirm that we had an amazing venue lined up in Nottingham, but due to a potential clash with the WCG Halo3 qualifiers we decided to move our dates so players could attend both events. The downside to this is that the Notts venue wasnt available on any other suitable dates, but the positive is that we have found an even better venue with Cranmore Park that will allow XL to expand and develop for at least another 18 months.

Whatever dates we chose for this event there would be players who would be unable to attend due to holidays, so the best we can do is have it at the start of the summer holidays, avoid clashes with other events/festivals and announce confirmed details as early as possible...and that is what we have done ;)

XL naming:
I've never liked XL being named in a numbered series but it was something that became unavoidable as it was pretty done so by the community. Due to a number of changes that will be taking place online soon and our plans for LAN tournaments, all XL events will now be named by season/year/location rather than being numbered. You may jump to conclusions on this but you're likely to be wrong so dont bother! lol :D

Wicked kon, 1000 square metres is still a hell of a lot of space, I am also gessing that it will look the nuts with all 360's in there ;). I carnt wait for XL5, but tbh in the later stages of the XL series is when the real "Majour" EU Lan Tournment will be noticed. Yes many players do come from EU countries, but a lot more will be pulled in when a large venue e.g. this one is used.

MLG is too commercial for its own good, or it will be very soon. At least XL is by the gamers for the gamers to a large extent and yes while expansion and more recognition would be great, i dont think we should lose that personal touch that Konspiracy so often extends :D:p

Yes I understand what you mean. MLG is extreamly commercial and I do feel that is makes it just a bit to much.... XL is great with a close experience when playing and I do think that this is makes it a better event. Konspiracy does offer a lot of personal touches hahah and he does make it all come together. Yea. Maps are one thing. But remember some maps you have to pay for if you want hem. The Foundry ones are free but if you want black out or the maps for COD4 like killhouse then its going to cost a hell of alot.

I have a solution and I can confirm that it works...the Halo3 Heroic DLC maps (ie versions of Foundry) will be included in the Halo3 gametypes at XL Summer 2008. :cool:

at a guess, no...

Basically from my recent tests on a number of consoles, the maps do not appear for offline profiles once downloaded. They only appear when connected to XBL.

The timetable should roughly look similiar to XL4
Gears 4v4 friday along with Cod ffa and Halo ffa
COD 5v5 and Halo 4v4 starts Saturday and end Sunday. All other tournaments added in due time

Correct. Players will not be allowed to use their own HDDs to record gameplays as the maps will not work.

Correct. Players can bring memory cards to record gameplays. I also believe offline profile settings can be loaded from memory card but I havent tested tbh.

Nah you just change the name of the profile thats on there to whatever your name is say it's cookie so say i just played. You'd change MMC CaZwElL to cookie and then your ready to play.

There are hotels around the area. An if you dont want to spend any money at all - you can always sleep at the NEC ;)

A return same day ticket from a London terminal to Birmingham International was £18 for me, on a Sunday. If you can, try to book early from your nearest train station. Only order online if you have to.

Heh, thing is; I'm travelling from Norway to either Gatwick or Heathon, so I have to order online.

The cheapest fare from gatwick is going to be a saver return at about £48.70 (but you can only use this off peak) up to £145 for a ticket you can use during peak hours, all depnding on the time of you flights as to which trains you'd have to catch and the price you would have to pay (or wait around for a cheaper fare).

these are standard tickets so you may be able to get cheaper if you book advance ticket or specify the train you are traveling on.

Take a look at http://nationalrail.co.uk/ and http://www.thetrainline.com/ you may be able to find something better.

The Coach might be a cheaper option, but will take longer than the train.

Depending on where you are flying from in norway, is it worth looking at options to Birmingham international airport, I know SAS do a flight with a change at Copenhagen for between £50 and £100 more from Oslo (taking about 1 hour more than to london), that might be worth while if you take into account the train fare you have to pay and the extra 2-3 hours travel from London to Birmingham.

@ Rawly - PES2008 will be available throughout all 3 days with an official tournament taking place on Sunday.

@ Silk - FIFA08 is unlikely to be featured due to lack of support from the gaming community and EA for this title. As such PES2008 remains to be the football game of choice for our line-up.
