Hi one and all
Though i would create a thread regarding Mario Kart for the wii. I have been a big BIG fan of this game since the snes days. Thought the DS version was fantastic and Double Dash was a pile of shite!
How am I finding this new edition...pretty fantastic. The track layouts are very similar in design and style to the DS version, the 'wheel' that comes packaged with the game does its job very well. Its actually very refreshing to play the game with the wheel - but that only applies to the single player game, when against an opponent who is using a GCN controller you will be at a disadvantage! The wheel is great but just lacks a little precision.
The graphics on the whole are pretty good - better than the GCN version with some lovely lighting. The retro tracks in general are pretty good with some real gems hidden away!
The online system is great! If you have many friends codes you can create a lobby and meet up in one place! Getting into a game against 11 other people is very quick and easy. You have a 'gamerscore' attached to your avatar (friends code) which increases/decreases depending on how well you do in your races. Racing against human opponents (all 11 of them) really REALLY adds to the game. As probably everyone knows nintendo just does not do voice chat, you can leave pre determined messages which i suppose is not too bad.
All in all i would say this game has the best infrastructure for online gaming at present on the wii.
Buy it, you will not be disappointed. And when you do get the game, share your friendscode with me!

Quality game just got of it :p I dont like the steering much but once you get used to it, it's really fun. If you got a Wii you need this game.

My housemate has just bought this today. I have to say, it is absolutely superb. Great fun and some good new additions from previous games. The steering wheel controls are very cool, although I think I prefer the nunchuck and wii remote way of playing. That is another grea thing abou the game though, the amount of different control systems is lovely (provided you have to controllers of course) and makes for good personal play.
Will post up our Wii code at some point when I know it for a few games.
I am currently using Toad with the standard kart.
The record system is the first good system on the wii also.

Hi Guys
Its great to hear from people who actually appreciate the game for what it is. I will post my wii code later tonite/tomorrow.
Stick with the wheel if u can - it really does get better the more you get accustomed to it - however i do get my ass kicked online by people who are using the joypad/nunchuk.
Also the more games you play online with the wheel - the wheel symbol above your character's head goes gold which is pretty cool!
Any of you guys played the battle mode online - thats one thing i have not tried yet!

Anyone given any of the time trials a go? Im going through them now trying to unlock as many of the expert ghosts as I can. Generally, when given my all, I seem to be around 6 seconds behind the overal world champion. Those top times are crazy.
I think when have friend codes added you can see how your times stack up against those of your friends too, so definitely want to get a few of you added for a bit of competition ;)

You can be my friend, Leigh. ;)
Although, I just got Brawl.

lol thanks Neo. Ive heard that Brawl is pretty terrible online though? Not gameplay, but connection. Nintendo servers are supposed to be awful and the only reason Mario Kart doesn't seem to lag is because it uses a prediction based server which obviously Brawl can't use..

I haven't had the urge or even the thought to go online yet; that will tell you how much there is to do is this game. I'll try it tonight and see what it's like.

Cool - i`ll 'beat' them later tonite! Did you set the trials through use of the wheel?

Nope, used the thumbstick. I dont think there is an advantage either way. At first the thumbstick is the easier but thats because the steering wheel takes time to get used to. Ive seen plenty of people online better than me who use the wheel.
Ps, enjoyed the session earlier ;) Did'nt even know you were there for the first few races lol. My friend data thing says we raced 9 times against each other. (me winning 7 ;) )

Yep you seriously kicked my ass!
Tried to beat your time for the N64 Mario Raceway track - did not get very close! Is there any way to view your ghost? I've also noticed online that bikes seriously outrun karts - its hard to keep up once someone is leading with the bike!
But it was fun racing with ya - gosh so many times i got screwed by power weapoons - but that what makes mario kart what it is! see you online again soon!

Tis indeed, it is a good laugh. Yea the bikes do seem to be a bit good, the disadvantage they seem to have (well the one I use anyway) is when you get hit by a power weapon, it is definitely slower than the other cars to get back to race speed, and also when using manual drift you cant get an orange boost, only blue.
I think you can race against my ghost somehow. If you go on to the Rankings and click my face (lol) then it should give you the option to download my data.. I think.

If you press up on the d-pad with a bike, you do a wheelie and it makes it go faster than your average kart (car); although you severely limit your ability to turn.
I played it online yesterday: great fun. Power-ups are just a great component of the game. First race, tried an ill-fated boost at the start, and stalled. I managed to get up to 2nd by the last lap, and I looked set to take 1st, and then I get hit by two successive shells which put me back in 6th. Did enough to climb to 3rd before the finish, though.
Next race, I'm in the lead by the last lap. Second last corner, I get hit by a blue shell. Three racers catch up and just pass me out before the second corner. Fortunately, there were power-up blocks before this corner; I sped past through one: got the three mushrooms speed boosts. I drifted into the second last corner; I got the speed boost from the drift, and used a speed mushroom. The last corner was immediately after: drifted a bit early, received the speed boost and used another speed mushroom to speed past the three racers as they were accelerating out of the corner. Took the lead and use my last speed mushroom to seal the victory.
You hate 'em and love 'em. :D

I got a Wii a couple of days ago - Mario Kart with two wheels, Wii Play with extra remote, Wii Sports and the Wii itself, for £150. Not a bad price!
Loving Mario Kart online - I was skeptical about the Wii online to be honest, but it works very well and was a lot of fun!
I will post my friend code later today.
