I am very sorry to announce but as many will now know Rob Mclean has been banned from PES Rankings for cheating in the current play.com event. Unfortunately for reasons that only Rob knows he cheated and he must now face the punishment of exclusion from the events. I hope this isn't the last we see of Rob because I believe he is a superb PES player but perhaps pressure got to him too much to acheive and he has been caught out. While you may point at other players who have cheated in the past and have got away with it these people are not in the position (rankings event organisers) or indeed playing at a level that brings the rankings system into question.

We of course are constantly trying to make rankings a fairer system and if you have any information about cheaters you can email to let us know. Next season we hope to implement easier methods to both catch and stop cheating we want rankings to be a fun and fair place to play against friends.

Again I am sorry that Rob felt the need to do this and I hope he accepts his punishment and returns to show he is what I think he is a great PES player.

While I understand you may have questions and want answers as to why please respect the admins decisions and leave it at that.

Remember guys cheaters never prosper, PES is about having fun and win or lose its the taking part that counts.

I have closed this thread as it will just deterioate and this is just a statement to let people know and not gossip. If Rob wants to send me a statement I can post it up as well.

I think his arrogance put people off, his attitude made the online rankings system unattractive, and I'm quite happy to see him gone. It will be nice to have someone as champion that is a little modest about it and realises that you can only get to the top by having the rest of the people there to be above.

If it's not relevant here feel free to delete it or move it. This is big news in the PESRankings scene and throughout PES, so thought it might be worth posting.

It was an online event - a £50,000 online event run by Play.com and PESRankings. He (in short) entered incorrect scores on PESRankings online system in order to get a win for a game that never happened.

Personally I think a year ban is harsh, he deserves to be punished but not that much. I say not that much because people have done far worse than enter one false result and they dont even get anything done to them. If Rankings had rules which simply said if you cheat your out then it would be fair.

I know theres a lot of people out there who probably think a year ban isnt enough (renegade :p) as he does rub a lot people up the wrong way, but hes always been good to me and I've got to know the Rob outside of PES :)

I think it sets a good precedent for those that feel the need to cheat, to be honest I never got to play the guy but he did attempt to try and flex his online muscles once, perhaps he thought it was another girl he was up against!

I could be wrong about Wallace, but you can either see what he done as honorable or lacking loyalty. It all comes back to Rob, though: to throw away his reputation like that over a game that he probably would have won quite easily.

When you say people have done far worse I agree with you. The problem is that the other people weren't number 1 across the UK, in a Konami Poster-boy role and best chummies with Seabass - Konami needed to make an example of him and have done so. Harsh perhaps, unexpected no. Cheats deserve everything they get, whether they are number 1 or number 1000. Rob cheated. He's lucky he is allowed back in at all.

I'm sure you have got to know him outside of PES and, in your opinion, he might be alright outside of PES. The thing is he is known for his PES-persona, and that's all a lot of people would see. To say he was a bad example to new PES players would be like saying Hitler had a slight error in judgement.

It is very scary playing a 50k single elimination game online, I had 2 knockout games

Rob simply got scared, he could a won vs Sykes legit, but had it all planned out to cheat him, he made photos in advanced made a master plan and got caught simple..

I got sent the evidence and gave it to the admins, I wasn't going to sweep it under the rug, I did tell some people what happened, I apologies for that guess am just a big gossip

Rob Mclean was a great player... he excelled on the PS2 version of Pes 5 and Pes 6, and luckily for him that when he was at the top of his game, the main events were played on his preferred format.

Mclean would never of won last season had the main events been on the 360, and tbh he was never in contention this season and was nothing more than a pacesetter.

All Mclean did this season was play in his own official online events against low rankings opposition and compete in high value HMV events to earn his points to date.... He had not competed in an event whereby he had to pit his skills against a number of top players, and the reason why he did not bother, ws because he knew he did not really stand a chance.

Hence, this is why Mclean has done what he did..... He knew he did not have the overall skill on the next gen versions of pes to remain on top... so he hd to resort to cheating.. but that does not surprize me as his no doubt done the same in the past.

Rob Mclean may have won Pesrankings twice.... but he will never be a Great Champion... His the Dwaine Chambers of Pes now.... a more fitting name to be remembered by, considering all the trouble he has caused in the past.

Rob always thought that people did not like him because he was so good at Pes..... He was wrong... People hate him because of his arrogant and abusive personality..... which I would like to point out he never showed in person, mainly down to the fact that most people would of kicked the crap out of him, has he been as abusive as he is behind the comfort of his PC.

I competed in those official onlines and I am currently ranked 5th and will gladly whup anyone's ass who wants it and I mean that in the gayest way possible :p. Jonny Nelson currently ranked 7th was there too. Marko also competed in those events and he is currently 14th and European Number 2. There was barely even a low ranked player in those competitions!!! The arrogance and ignorance of that line is shocking!!!


I'm seriously considering reporting that line to rankings support and I honestly wouldn't be suprised if you got a year ban ;).

Apart from the off few players... the class of events that Mclean ran and entered this season was below the standard that other players competed in..... you don't just play jonny, marko in these events, you have to play an number of other players before you get to them....... and plau you are referring to PS3 online event which are the biggest pile of toss going..... players mainly lose due to lag, not the player on that version.

I would also be careful of who you are saying you are going to beat.... you said that last season before the Norht Event and I think you got shown a lesson or two.

The fact is, Rob Mclean has not beaten anyone in a real event this season.... and tbh I don't count laggy online events and HMV pr events as the real events...... my expectation of a quality event is far higher than that.

Without trying to get involved in a touchy subject and the controversial issue of online pro evo tournaments gaming.

Many people if not all will have a view on the episode with Mr McLean and the play.com tournament. I personally feel that this is one of the main problems with online competitions, the verification of the results. It is, however, something that can be resolved and I am sure it will be.

This current event has now caused further implications. Should Gamestadium allow Mr McLean entry into the Uk's National offline tournament?

We have been contacted by Mr McLean who wishes to enter the competition. Obviously any results that Mr McLean acheives would not be posted on the PES Ranking system but should we allow him to enter at all.

Gamestadium wants to stay totally impartial to these claims by both parties to the situation, but do we allow Mr McLean the chance to clear his name and at the same time other players prove their point by beating him?

To be honest and frank, I don't see why Rob should be able to enter any event with any sort of prize or prestige attached to it.

Don't forget this wasn't just an incorrectly entered score - it was a complete fabrication that was planned in advance. The guy knew what he was doing and got caught.

If an athlete is caught taking drugs, they are banned from every event. What Rob did is about as close as an e-sport can come to that.

He is a known cheat now - and if you think that should be rewarded by letting him into an offline event (whether PESRanked or not), where he has the chance to win more prizes - be my guest.

maybe PES attracts such obnoxious characters because it really is down to just one player unlike the many other team games where you have to rely on support from your team to win and all the credit isnt placed on just one person, therefore their ego doesnt get as hyperinflated.

i had to get at least one thing right on my bday, only took 23 hours yay :)

i know a similar thing happened to me back on gears, i was a very good player and the best in my team and started acting a bit of a prick, i realised what i was doing after it was bluntly pointed out by a teammate and tried to make sure i changed, i must of done a bit for him to try and start a team up with me a few months later :).

i have a similar problem in real life atm, im the best academically in my school accross much of the board and i have to put very little effort in to achieve better grades than most other people who put in alot more effort, and it is very hard not to sound arrogant and patronising when talking to them about it as it is easy to come across like it. especially when people comment on how i just learn things automatically without putting anything in and they cant manage it. i have to make a real effort not to sound arrogant all the time and sometimes i just feel awkward, i am naturally more clever than them and they often say it, but if i say it then it makes me seem like an arrogant ****.

its fairly hard not to be arrogant when peers raise you on a pedestal, although it is apparent that McLean was just an outright idiot who didnt give a toss about how he came across

Nope, my theory as to why PES Rankings is full of ****'s is somewhat different.

The core of the PES Rankings fraternity thing spawns from PESfan and PESfan has got to be one of the most vile fanboy forums around with powertripping admin or 'refs', each of which has a whole following of brown-nosers who basically get to abuse anyone (usually those who stray from the 'status quo' attitudes) untouched so long as they remain loosely within the rules......dare answer one of these maggots back and just watch the ref yellow card you. Answer the power-tripping ref back and u will be banned...

takes a certain kind of person to thrive in that online community.

it doesn't surprise me that quite a few of the guys 'at the top' of that site, (Admin etc) are policemen.....................or traffic wardens......

Without trying to get involved in a touchy subject and the controversial issue of online pro evo tournaments gaming.

Many people if not all will have a view on the episode with Mr McLean and the play.com tournament. I personally feel that this is one of the main problems with online competitions, the verification of the results. It is, however, something that can be resolved and I am sure it will be.

This current event has now caused further implications. Should Gamestadium allow Mr McLean entry into the Uk's National offline tournament?

We have been contacted by Mr McLean who wishes to enter the competition. Obviously any results that Mr McLean acheives would not be posted on the PES Ranking system but should we allow him to enter at all.

Gamestadium wants to stay totally impartial to these claims by both parties to the situation, but do we allow Mr McLean the chance to clear his name and at the same time other players prove their point by beating him?

As a Pesrankings Senior Event Admin, I was led to believe that Mclean was not allowed to compete in any pesrankings event....

He can't enter an event that is on Pesrankings and saying that he just won't have his results entered onto the site and technically done on the side is against the principle of Pesrankings procedure....

There is no doubting Rob Mclean's ability and beating people will not clear his name...... He is still a cheat...

Rob should respect the ban and return when its up..... and I am sure if Konami and Pesrankings knew what hewas trying to do, they would not be happy...

Marko is a great guy and a respected member of Pesfan and Matchbox'x pes players community....

I agree with your first part..... perhaps your view is me is down to the fact, that when you and Mclean were mates and you were running events with him..... it was down to the fact that you hate me is because I confronted you, when you promoted underage kids to get fake ID, so that they could enter one of your events in a pub.... I think most people would agree with me, that I was right in what I did and would call you a moron for thinking up such a daft idea for an official endorsed Konami event.

MatTheCat - as much as I hate and despise McLean, Matt Barr has always run the tournaments associated with Matchbox 360 very fairly and very enthusiastically. He has done a lot for the PES community on this site and in general. I too cannot stand PESFan and am not too keen on PESRankings, but what Matt has done here has been extremely helpful and very well received.

If you want to insult any member here in a thread - whether admin, moderator or standard user, I'm sure it won't be tolerated. You have free use of PMs - if you have something you wish to say, use them.

I haven't been a member of Matchbox for that long but I've found the majority of members on this forum to be pretty down to earth as well as friendly and more than willing to let anyone get involved in any events that they have organised so I have to agree that we don't need troublemakers in the mix; if you want to have an argument then we could go on forever but I'm sure there are plenty of more constructive topics that the more honorable members of this site wish to discuss so take a hike MatTheCat or should I MatThePrat ;)

I used to run my own 'fun' turneys in mates homes and in pubs. No duplicate teams, usually two groups of 4 on two TV's in two rooms, group games, semi's final. £5 in, winner takes pot.

Were great fun up until PES4 when the exploit goals became a huge problem and caused us to abandon the tourneys.

I was essential to the first few offline EPEG events in that I booked the pub, supplied 6 of the TV's, PS2's etc etc. They were good at first but as soon as PES rankings came along they stopped being fun....... Especially with McLean's obsesssion with using them to boost his 'cyber status, but generally full off poker faced kids equally concerend about their stupid PES rankings status......wasn't for me....couldnt be arsed with it anymore.

Anyways, to be honest guys, I dont have a 360 (doesn't do anything my PC cant do twice as good) and dont play PES 2008 on PC (the best of a bad lot) anymore as it is utter gash.

So you wont have to worry about me upsetting your cosy little bum bandit band cos I only came to this site by coincidence of a web search
