Metal Gear Solid 4: Release Date Announced
1.03.2008
Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be released on June the 12th for the Playstation 3 platform [1] (http://www.konami.com/ctlimg/konami/pressrelease/02_28_2008_MGS4_DPS.pdf). Konami revealed the details of the release date of the highly-anticipated and eagerly-awaited game in a Playstation retailer event in Scottsdale. Initially, the release date applied to the North America region, but Konami announced that the game would be released across Europe and worldwide on June the 12th [2] (http://uk.gs.konami-europe.com/news.do?idNews=306).
The release date comes as no surprise after Famitsu leaked a screenshot [3] (http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/%7Eadamesat/Stuff/2lkryvpro6.jpg) of a Metal Gear Solid 4 poster, apparently, with the date 2008.6.12 plastered on it a week before the announcement. The game will break the Metal Gear Solid series' tradition of releasing in Feb/March across Europe as the Metal Gear Solid was released in late February, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, March.
Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component of Metal Gear, will be included on the disc. Konami have also announced that they plan to have a public beta of Metal Gear Online before the release of the game on June the 12th [1] (http://www.konami.com/ctlimg/konami/pressrelease/02_28_2008_MGS4_DPS.pdf). Consumers who pre-order from the beginning of April can participate in the beta via a download code they will receive when they pre-order; those who pre-order from April will also receive the Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD, which will contain, a prologue that recaps the series so far, a 20th anniversary retrospective, character bios and an assortment of international trailers of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Heard about this the otehr day, really can not come soon enough, looks damn good, a nice full blu-ray so hopefully it will be a lengthy installment. I am also wanting to know what the special edition MGS4 PS3 will be like or if it will just be a cheap sticker.
Have not read up much on the online side of things so might have to order from America to see what its like in the beta.

I'll be buying it if it comes bundled with that Saga DVD (heh - think they'd market it as a Blu-ray disc!) even before I buy a Playstation 3. I hope that it continues where Snake Eater left off. Snake Eater was just the right kind of length: not too short.

Havn't been quite tempted enough yet to buy a PS3 but this might just be enough, will wait to see what the hands on reviews for normal folk are like first though.

I don't think that's even necessary. Metal Gear Solid 4, unless Hideo has gone bonkers, will be a solid game in terms of graphics, and all the production values will be high. So, it will come down to whether or not you liked his previous games.

MGS 1&2 = yes , didnt play 3. Still want to hear what ppl think from a hands on POV once it comes out. There's been to many games sold short of their own hype in recent years for me to put over £300 worth of faith into this.

Yep, that's true: £300 is a lot of money. Snake Eater was the best of the series, though. And it's like Halo 3, the gameplay won't change apart from a few gimmicks like the active camo.

Yes and i have played the game almost everyday since getting it, i would say that's value for money but the same cant be said for the other half dozen games i have bought.

still, the fanboy wars have been ignited wiht kojima sayin the game doesnt fit on blu-ray and has had to witness "cuts"

i really hope that this game almost completely fails and then theyll have to release it on the 360 to recover some of the production costs and i dont have to shell out £300 :).
although itll have to come out over 5 disks just to fit
and based on the hype i doubt itll fail :(

I hope it rocks out with its c*ck out, but as ive said before £300 is a lot to shell out on hype alone.

Well, you could also add the hype of HAZE, GT5, LittleBigPlanet and Home ito the mix, then the £280 sounds like quite a nice price. Plus, there's Resistance 2, FFXIII, Killzone 2...
Alright, maybe not that last one. But you get the point :p

I think that one high-brow magazine did a story about how the Racing genre is dead either this month or last month, and it's about four years late. Can Free Radical carve a good single-player out of their first-person-shooter games? No point in talking about Resistance and Killzone: cookie-cutter FPS.
The only other game that would entice me to buy a PS3 other than Metal Gear is Final Fantasy, but if past production scheludes are anything to go by, then we won't see a new installment anytime soon.

I wouldn't say the genre is dead, but it's definitely not the monolithic lord of the gaming world like it was up until UT and CS plunged us into a decade of FPS's. As for the Timesplitters legacy, I think HAZE is going to have an extraordinary single player, judging bythe interviews all over the Internet. With the nectar element plastered throughout gameplay, I can't see it working *that* well online, but it gives Free Radical a fantastic subject for a plot with many twists and developments.
PS: Resistance wasn't bad, it was just an average shooter with decent multiplayer, which is a lot more than I can say for Halo 1. But hey, that's just my opinion.

i think haze looks like a replica of the giddy farcry console games, what other major releases is there coming to PS3? sequals and franchises aside such as new IP's. also i read an article comparing ps3 and xbox games and it said cod4 has "superior" online integration on ps3? can anyone varify this as it was shizzle on my mates ps3

Well, you could ask the same about the 360. However, since you asked first, LittleBigPlanet and Home (if you count Home).

I've never played it on the PS3 myself, but I imagine they're talking about the server farms Infinity Ward set up, or any attempt to compensate for teh lack of in-game XMB ie game invites and the like.

There isn't much original content out this year. On the PS3, there's HAZE, LittleBigPlanet and Home. Spore will also be out on every gaming device still in production by Christmas. It's the year of the sequels. Tekken 6, GT5, Gears 2, Metal Gear 4, GTAIV, et cetera.

To be fair the only reason id ever get a PS3 is GT5 and MGS4 and by the looks of it the DVDs :p
But i think 360 has the upper hand this year unless PS3 pull something out of the bag

Nah, not this year. There is just one good 'exclusive' 360 game coming out this year, and that's Gears 2. And if Sony pull off a good in-game XMB with many XBL-like features, Microsoft's main advantage may well be snatched from underneath them.

Fable don't do it for you? As far as I know that's a [timed] 360 exclusive.. Or is it a simultaneous PC release?

I think it will be on the PC a year later, Fable is one of the only games I will miss, however theres always peoples 360's to steal and now with co-op play too so I should not miss out.

I'm not sure, but I've heard both. I wasn't impressed one bit by Fable 1, so I haven't really been following the sequel. Might throw it on the ol' Lovefilm list if the hype starts to grow though.

i wouldnt say just because its out on pc its not 360 exclusive, it all goes into M$'s back pocket at the end of the game, so tbh i generally count PC and 360 excluisves as the same, but thats just me

you think theyd just stamp windows/ms exclusive rather than xbox then port it to pc

Isn't that like saying Ubisoft games are exclusive as 'it all goes into Ubisofts back pocket'?

Its a ridiculous statement as its not exclusive to anything, its like saying you have a venue where only certain people are allowed in but then let everyone else in anyway.
Or because all the money goes to the same place would it still be counted exclusive to you?
They should start stamping then exclusive to microsoft. That will never happen as thats just giving you more reasons to sell/never buy a 360.
