Just moments ago, towards the end of their GDC08 press conference, Epic Games and Microsoft officially announced that Gears of War 2, the sequel every 360 fanboy has been waiting for, will release November 2008!

In an instant, this massive GDC announcement put to rest a year full of speculation and rumors that has kept the Gears community on the edge of their seats. A year long Gears of War 2 rumor mill encompassing events including Cliffy B hinting at a Gears sequel, seeing Amazon.com pre-orders come and go, reporting on Cliffy's brother knowing something, hearing about a GamePro cover, reading about SurferGirl chiming in and we even sunk as low as to analyze GDC floor plans. All these rumors were reported because we were in search of an elusive GoW2 announcement and now, we have it. We finally have confirmation that GoW2 is real and we can put to rest a year full of rumors. It was fun while it lasted, but we're way more satisfied and relieved knowing that the veil has been lifted. More Gears of War 2 details to come.

Also, the series is Microsoft-owned, they own the IP. Gears already lost it's single platform exclusivity to the PC, but was there any suggestion that it was going anywhere else despite being owned by MS???

Sorry, I just don't get what everyone is so punked about. OK sure we now know it's (possibly) coming in 9 months, but the actual existance of the game is common knowledge - for example Amazon and Play have had Gears 2 on their sites since 2006. It's hardly been a well-kept secret, has it?

Also Its a monument in the gaming society, Yea people knew about it but just passed it on as a rumour. It's like GTA4 why get so Hypes about that when it was announced? Everyone knew it was gonna happen?

I didn't get excited about GTAIV until I found out some info - an announcement doesn't excite me. Ah well.

I did enjoy Gears but for me it didn't get anywhere near the hype surrounding it. I confess that I flat-out hated the Multiplayer, but co-op campaign was stunning. Too many people forgave the crap because it had phenomenal graphics, meaning that a weak plot, repetetive gameplay, awful voice acting (apart from Cole and Baird - and incidentally the guy that played Baird did the voice of Saren in Mass Effect) and crazy brevity were overlooked. I still don't think it has the best graphics on the system. IMO.

Gears 2 needs a major kick in the backside - I don't want the same game in a new location.

Well with the way new games are looking now i really am guessing it wont be the same game in a different place.

The Glitches and graphics will all change
Levels and Repetitive Gameplay* may change
The voices will stay the same but i didn't think the voices were that bad taking into account i was more focused on the game at hand.

I think gears did what it did and it did it well, of course they're haters and so on but doesnt every game?

I think this will be one of them games thats brilliant on Story up to number 2 and rubbish on number 3

Just like Halo 3 in my opinion i thought the Story mode was rubbish and didn't deserve to be a game IMO

Gears 1 had a terrible plot! Halo 3 wasn't great, but it made sense. Better than Halo 2 anyway. I hope Gears 2 gives us much more character depth - such as the life of Fenix before he was imprisoned, and his upbringing and recruitment into the rebellion, and the previous fights before Sera.

when I got home 2day I actually slapped myself in the face because I thought I was dreaming. Hopefully they will be no more glitches, a rank system that will stop people from leaving ranked games early, no more host bollocks and even cooler things like new weaapons and maps as well as what I'm guessing to be a new way of using the chainsaw. I hope campaign is longer with multiple ways to play it through and 4 player co-op, which would absolutley rock. Can't wait until November!! :):):)

It's a simple matter of who prefers games that take more skill of aiming or actually using a aim. Or be like HALO shoot from the hip with unbelievable accuracy. Hence its a futuristic shooter that i hate.

Also COD4 get rid of the white crosshairs on the screen its'll be much better and much more challenging Hardcore TDM or SnD.

Imo the random Firing of the sniper when moving is perfect makes u stand still and have to snipe properly not like halo Run around side to side getting the kill. thats just not real no-man would be able to do that.
Its a First game of the 360 it was a test.
The Glitching can be done with just kick the player, The host Advantage was just Connection advantage. and the lack of gametypes didnt bother me cause all i wanted to do was kill the other team first. It's done well and it may not be perfect but the sales just prove it was game of the year

You can't just sidestep the problems by saying 'kick the player' - these are problems that should have been fixed a long time ago. With the sniper yes it makes you stand still, but surely even when moving the bullet should fire in the position
your reticle was at the moment you fired, and not just some random variable degree?!

A capture the flag gametype would have been ideal, and same with an Assault-style gametype. Instead Epic went completely kill crazy - making the game one dimensional and IMO rather boring.

Yeah thers no charicter depth at all in gears one. You got a lil insight with dom as he lost family, but thats it. I cant imagine Fenix havin a life or other emotions, the game gave nothing away, no attatchments with any charicters, no bizzare twists, just un exiting stuff that made me wana play it just the once.
Fantastic gameplay though.

Also no chance of it being delayed, microsoft will be so up their arse for getting it relesed on the 2nd annaversery of emergence day, infact i think theyle start milking it soon, like 'Re-emergence day, nov' or sum shyt.

Roadpog - sorry to tell you but sales are very rarely an indication of quality. Hype sells fast copies, quality lives in the memory. Ico and Shadows ot Colossus sold awfully but were masterpieces, whereas Madden and Perfect Dark Zero are in the top ten highest selling 360 games and were crap.

If, however, it is sales you want to compare, think of this.

Gears of War, 4.5million. Released November 06. 15 months.

Call of Duty 4, 4.4million. Released November 07. 3 months.

Halo 3, 8.1million. Released September 07, 5 months.

So to equal GoW, CoD took 1/5 of the time, to double GoW, Halo 3 took 1/3 of the time.

Halo and COD as in the game and COD has its hype from number 2 and 3 as with Halo 3 there hype came from number 2 and based on how good they were

Gears had an absolutely insane amount of hype - not only because it came directly from the team behind the Unreal Tournament series, but because MS pumped millions and millions of dollars into its marketing (higher marketing budget than any other game ever released, including Halo 3). Let's not forget that COD3 was poor (admittedly because it was made by a completely different studio), but the marketing for CoD4 was very very low compared to Gears.

In essense, what you're saying is that CoD4 and Halo 3 aren't good games - yet they sold at a Much faster rate than Gears. So your argument of Gears being class because of its high sales doesn't really work.

If, alternatively you are arguing that CoD4 and Halo 3 only sold well because they were established licenses, then what about Halo:CE, at 5 million copies? It was the 1st and was unestablished.

Ok, so it's not quite as clear cut as that, but the truth is that sales are very rarely an accurate indication of quality.

Fair enough mate, your opinion is valid even if I don't share it. I don't like Gears MP but I understand why a lot of people do.

I'm not the biggest Halo 3 fan since they started putting far too much focus on MLG and made the whole thing very repetitive, but I love CoD4 - the Perks system offers a great tactical element. You're right that I prefer my games to be more tactical, which is probably why I don't get on with Gears - just my preference though.

But GoW is all out shoot em up much like a FFA but with teams :p
I think GoW did try to add a little Tatical element with Annex but it just didn't work

May i ask have you ever tried assassination? That is tatical as u have to protect the leader i found that much more enjoyable in ranked matches than normal warzone or execution

Yeah I played it, but the general attitude was that of killing, rather than protecting. I really liked R6V, but it was a little too slow for me to play for prolonged periods of time

Yea Assassination still involved killing but its that feeling knowing that if my Leader dies ive lost must protect him.

The most problem with working a map with tatical involvement other than killing on gears was definatley the maps, they we're far too predictable so a CTF would kind of be difficult to execute perfectly, like Halo 3 having big maps and multiple ways to get to the map, Gears had only two ways to get to a map or even one so hopefully on Gears two they incorporate some bigger maps and tatical involvement for the more serious gamer or more tatical minded

You have to understand certain people like certain games and the people that prefer first person shooters will continue to Halo 3 and Cod4, but it also goes on reviews by other people and what their friends recommend.
It's always gonna be this cycle after a year Cod and Halo will die down just as all other games have

he's write, ur only ever going to witness people playing on one game (or more) if they are the only ever playing on them games. to be fair tho there is light in what your saying about the better games coming along and replacing gears, i believe that people simply got bored of it tho and that the limited game types sort of killed it. im hoping for some more tactical based games such as ctf and assualt, it wud be class rody-running the flag into the capture area lol, also game modes where u can repsawn but team deathmatch wise - annex was a pancake way of introducing respawning and a poor game mode overall. im hoping for maybe a class system aswell? select your weapons similar to cod so people arent immiediately spawned with botha shotgun pistol and assualt rifle

That was the whole point of gears Shotgun and Lancer The basic assault kit then you had to Load yourself up with Sniper, Boomshot and so on. The shotgun was the focus point of gears for many gamers but to be honest, Just dont get near it or use it yourself. Yea it get's boring but for many people it was exciting when you both was on the brink of death and both of you 2 were the only ones alive best bit about it

This might be checked off my list due to the Active reloads and new grenades on the game.
The old acttive reloads with the sniper are still there, And new poisonus grenades also will be implemented.
I think this will be checked off my list now as I stopped playing the first one for the sniper and i probably will on the Second.

People who stoped playing it over one slightly annoying feature of one of the power weapons really must be bad if they couldnt beat it, not to mention stupid. :D

The torque bow is a one hit kill (offset by the charging up time), the boom is a one hit kill(offset by limited ammo) why does everyone consider the sniper to be overpowered as its a one hit down only if you have AR, unless you can get a headshot of course. Tbh reucing the ammo on the sniper to 7 or 8 and the amount of time the bullet stays active to 4-5secs would have solved most of the problems with AR whores.
