RE: Liverpool 2 - 0 Inter Milian
What a difference a few days make hey? Watching the Inter game you have to wonder why are they they so far from the title race and why is Benitez up for the chop ?

I just wonder how much they paid the ref!
IcemanLeigh
19-02-2008, 09:43 PM
They played pretty well but you have to say that alot of the ascendancy was gained through the sending off of Materazzi and the crowd urging them on. They deserved the win though no doubt about that. They had about 70 minutes of full on ascendancy and still didnt really look like scoring. That is the big problem for Liverpool if you ask me. Inter keeper only really had to make one stop (apart from the two goals) and then Kuyt got a fairly lucky goal and Gerrard scored yet another wonder strike.
I like seeing Liverpool win, I really have nothing against them but they dont half flatter themselves in the Champions League do they!

They played well but 30 mins into the game Inter we're down to 10 men.
They exploited this and as Icemanleigh says They don't look like scoring.
i mean with Torres and kuyt you should be popping in goals all day.
And icemanleigh Fifa match? Groub B thing cause im Bored :'[

I don't know what Rafa feeds the players before every CL match, but it brings out the best in each and every player on the pitch, even Kuyt (!). The 4-5-1 was an incorrect decision if we wanted to score goals, but it didn't half put the visitors under pressure throughout the first half. At 60 minutes, Pennant and Crouch replaced Babel and Lucas, creating the 4-4-2 we should have started with. And what happened then? Their defence was blown wide open, and we got 2 goals in 5 minutes.

Playing against 10 men for 60mins was easy for them, if the ref wasn't a liverpool fan inter would have had 11 men and imo beat liverpool! inter lasted 80mins with 10men and i think liverpool had about 4 chances before the goal, 1 lucky goal at that but gerrard did what he does best after and scores a peach!
Everyone's saying liverpool are threw already, highly doubt it, going to the san siro and stoppin inter from scoring is going to be hard, saying that if liverpool score first it's over!
Inter can blame the ref for going out, fukin disgrace...

We're nowhere near through. We still have to score at the San Siro. I believe that if we score first in Milan, we're all but through to the quarters.

You can blame the referee all you want but Liverpool still had a job to do. As Kon rightly pointed out Liverpool have lacked scoring options all season and once Inter shut up shop when they went down to 10 men Liverpool you always felt wouldn't /couldn't get the goal.
Kuyt I thought was pretty ineffective again but just as the game looked dead in the water up he pops with a goal....so what if it took a bit of a deflection.......he picked that one up from the Lampard school of Deflected goals!!!
Once we got the 1st goal we looked like we could have gone on to make it 3 or 4 but time wasn't on our side, let's not forgot this is a team that haven't lost in 5 months. Liverpool got beat by Barnsley at the weekend so to say it was a great win is an understatement but as always I won't be getting carried away because even though Liverpool come up with great performances they still aren't offering consistency and that is the biggest downfall at the minute.
Roll on the 2nd leg, it will be very hard but if we can get the 1st goal then it's a hell of a task for Inter and they will be missing that big Italian Halian Materazzi :)

No, it simply means that we stand on the manc scum's throats one more time as the greatest city the world has ever known. New York, Shanghai, Singapore - all modeled on the skyline of the mighty Liverpool. It was our city's name that was on the front of the Titanic. It is our cathedral that is the largest anglican place of worship on Earth. It was our band that became the best and most famous the world has ever seen. And it is our football club that is the most successful in Britain. And by the way, it's "let them KNOW it's Christmas time", you retarded little inbred.
On topic: The first thing Inter will do in 3 weeks is grab us on the counter attack, so we better have Carra and Hyypia fit. Mascherano needs to play behind Stevie, Torres et al to pickpocket any player who tries to take him on. If we get the first goal, we'll be celebrating in front of a mostly emtpy San Siro, because all the Inter fans would have gone home.

Christ, scum is a word used in the context of belittling someone by making them appear like a piece of dirt or grime. It's not to do with Southampton Unions or anything - yes, that's the origin of the word, but in no way was it used in that context. I bet you've called people a prick without meaning a small sharp piercing, or called someone a c0ck without meaning a male chicken. Words may originate in one place and be used completely differently - it has absolutely nothing to do with your grandad or the origin of the word at all in the context it was used here.
Good result for United tonight, away at Lyon is never easy and now it's back to Old Trafford. Not an ideal result for Arsenal, I wouldn't be betting on them taking anything from Milan now. Unlucky Celtic - I desperately wanted them to hold on.

Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano and Finnan are the only players i truly think are the ones who can change liverpool's, in my opinion, abysmal season so far.
Torres, yup, Stevie, yup, Mascherano, yup, Finnan, yu- wait, what? Finnan only ever plays well in Europe. In the Premiership, he kills pace, fails to stop wing attacks and is a complete liability.
I agree with you on that Although Gerrard isnt all that. yea he scores some wonderous goals but he does loose the ball quite often.
Did I just read that correctly? Like him or not, Steven Gerrard is one of the best midfielders in the world, and hits the most accurate long balls I have ever seen. If it wasn't for Gerrard's captaincy, Liverpool would be performing much much worse than they already are doing. Let's not forget that this man is seen by Fabio Capello as the best man to lead the country in international matches.
Torres i believe will leave this year as Man UTD or Tottenham will buy him. Tottenham have looked into buying Torres but never put forward a Offer so maybe in between u might see a change
Again, you're talking out of your gluteus maximus. Liverpool payed £21m for Torres, who has dreamed of playing for the club all his life. He scores whenever he's so much as a train stop away from the ball, and is a fan favourite. He's not going to leave his dream club, where his spanish manager praises him, to go to United or Spurs. Can the latter even afford him?

You know, football gets you down. Liverpool are just plain lucky, and I'd go as far as to say, if anyone should have been sent off, it should have been Torres for diving theatrically twice under soft Materazzi challenges. I knew Liverpool were going to score, because Mancini isn't smart enough manager to know that making the midfield the battelground instead of his own penalty area is a good tactic - especially against a Liverpool side whose attack is summed up thusly: long ball or Gerrard. Manchester United should have been put to the sword.
Arsenal play the best football of any of the British teams, and only manage a draw. That's football. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we'll beat AC Milan at the San Siro. The fact that Arsenal didn't concede an away goal may save them, and AC Milan know that if they concede, they then have to score two. I think it'll be a case of whoever scores first; if Milan score then it's shut-up shop.

Well done, beating a team with 10men is a great achievement, 5 month unbeaten run in the italian league (not that hard wen theres onli milan and roma to compete with)
On a side note, what else have liverpool done this season? Sweet FA a-part from making the headlines for getting beat by barnsley:rolleyes:
Liverpool used to be a good team but now there just a top 8 team in the premiership along with spurs, everton, man city...
Yeah, remember when Spurs got to the CL final twice in 3 years?
Christ almighty, you must be the most fickle person in the world. Liverpool are having a horrific domestic season, no-one can deny that. But 10 men or not, that win against Inter was big. They've been unbeaten since September in all competitions, and your opinion of the average quality of Serie A is laughable at best. "there's only Milan and Roma". Fiorentina? Lazio? Juve? Let's not forget that the 2 Milan teams are thought of as the 2 best teams on the continent, because of their success in the domestic league.
I can't believe I've just had to justify a 2-0 win over Inter Milan. Jesus.

Horrific domestic season this season? haha try the last 3/4 season, what have use had to shout about except the Champions league in the last 3/4 years? Nothinggggggg
Lazio, fiorentina and juve are all crap this year compared to roma and the 2 milans, thats like saying everton, and liverpool are up with teams like chelsea, arsenal and united. there not and to go 5months unbeatin in that league for inter was easy!
All liverpool fans shout about is the champions league, beating inter in the CL (with 10men) does not make them a good team!

And what have Man Utd "done" this season? Or Arsenal? Or Chelsea? Think you may find the answer (in the context you are using) is "Bugger all"

To be hones if you compare teams on the past years and not on the future i think you'll find a suprise!
Liverpool for instance have a great line up just need to put it together and next season i think will be that season for them.
Tottenham and Everton will have a great season next year as well with the players and talent coming in this year a few suprises next year maybe?
Chelsea never used to be that good 5 years ago? runners up to the Premiership and division one for 50 years?
Man utd and Arsenal are the best teams out there this season IMO. They got the money and they got the players and they got the managers Close contest this year, stop slating
Liverpool for a bad season i mean look at Newcastle, All i can say is atleast they're in the Premier League and CL and so on. If you slate about Liverpools performance maybe you should slate everyones performance for not doing anything for the past 3/4 years?

All still in title contention, Still in Fa Cup, chelsea in the final of carling Cup and all still in Champs League, Man United won the Community Shield!
Liverpool:
Still in title contention: NO
FA Cup: NO
Carling Cup Final: NO
Only think they can play for is the champs league and lets be honest, they won't win it!

Money can buy you lots of things and the Players is one of them
Main reason why still in contention Liverpool have the money have the players just need the heart and lets be hones
CL Liverpool may win you can't predict just yet.

Contention yes. Done anything? No. Till they've won anything then your entire point is complete bollocks - at the moment they've all "done" the same, which isn't much. Look at this way - Liverpool could get through this round and Man Utd could not. If Man Utd then lose the league (a possibility) and the FA Cup (also a possibility) then which team (Man Utd or Liverpool) has "done" more?
Oh yeah...
Man United won the Community Shield!
**** me - seen some desperation in my life but that is shocking.

The community shield is the top 2 teams in england plying against each other most the time so its still and good achievement to win it!

The only reason Liverpool cant get up is like why all the other teams cant get up there.
To be fair i dont watch the premiership much anymore cause its the same out come every year the top 4 are the same year in year out
And the only team that wins is the one with the most money that can buy the best players
I've always thought like that and tbf its true
I support Forrest and since they have gone down due to all best players are sold back in the day. now there football aint as great but theres much more passion for that team than there is for most because we are fighting for promotion. Fighting to get up there. More passion in it that Qualifying for another tournament.
So Liverpool are just another old school Chelsea cant win anything cant get anything but years to come they get big again. Just wait for a few years you'll see

How come, chelsea had no money back then but liverpool have a load of money to buy quality players so i don't know how you can compare liverpool to and old school chelsea, with the money and players liverpool have they should be winning game after game

Shall I get back to the main issue of Liverpool before you start talking out of your fallopian tubes again? Rafael Benitez and his rotation system have destroyed Liverpool's domestic season. rafa only seems to concentrate on the high-tempo games, such as the rest of the big 4, and the Champion's League. Getting knocked out by Barnsley was a disgrace, but the players are only 10% of the blame can go on the players. The manager is so busy fussing with the yanks to create a decent training system each week it would seem. Week after week, world class players go out there, looking like they've never played with each other their entire lives. Most of them make no genuine effort to prove themselves, because with the rotation system, you could score 8 goals in 10 minutes and you'll still be warming the benches for the next 2 weeks.
2 players Benitez needs to play more are Ryan Babel and Peter Crouch. These men try, and try, and try. Babel's pace turns every match on its head whenever he touches the pitch, and Crouch could easily average a goal a match with his head in a suitcase filled with lettuce. Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe, and that is proven by their performance every Tuesday/Wednesday in the Champions' League. 2 finals in 3 years. They are definitely not one of the best teams in England though. What Benitez needs to get into his skull is that domestically, he has it all wrong. Oh, and Kuyt is utter ****.

Sorry but saying Liverpool are a good side because they beat a 10 men Inter is complete bullshit. They aren't anywhere near as good as Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd and anybody who watches football would know that.
Contention yes. Done anything? No. Till they've won anything then your entire point is complete bollocks - at the moment they've all "done" the same, which isn't much. No, they haven't done the same. We have got further in the FA Cup, were 2nd in the league and still in the Champions League. Even if we get put out of all those cups we will have finished above them in the League and got further in the FA Cup which means we have done better.
Liverpool are having a horrific domestic season, no-one can deny that
Liverpool have been having horrific domestic seasons since the ****ing Premership started :)

Babel is average at best. Anytime I have seen him play he has under performed massively.

I wish things were that black and white, but the truth of the matter there is every chance Liverpool could go on and win the Champions league this year, and then they are seen as the best team in Europe for doing it.
Man U dont always win everything and i think were seeing more and more in the past few seasons that the quality in the other Premiership teams is reaching the standard to compete with the best and even beat the so called best. I mean look at teams like Everton, Aston villa and Man city, all have shown they can beat anyone on their day.
