Rep System

I don't know about anyone else but i think this forum would be much better if it had a rep system. I mean the buddy list means nothing really does it, people don't know if their on anyone elses buddy list and they don't get any *Virtual respect* if they make a good thread or post.

What do other people think?

i also think it'd be good, like the H3F one. It should only be dished out by certain individuals though. Giving it to everyone would be silly.

Same as the PESFan one too I think. It works, but sometimes you have to be careful - if a user has 20 thousand posts, some of them are bound to be good. Plus you get friends giving it to eachother every post.

If only certain members received the option to give out rep im sure that wouldn't happen, i could see that happening if everyone was given the option to give rep as some 'younger members' may abuse it.

If the certain members who were given the privilege started abusing it the amount of REP points you can give out in a day/week/month could be limited? I'm pretty sure the Admins/Mods/Staff would have a way to see who was repping who and a user who was repping another all the time for no reason could have the rep points revoked against them (the rep they gave to one user would be deleted and negatively repped against them?) or they could just loose the privilege altogether.

Very true, and a good idea Bonzo (and Gaskin, I just re-read the thread). Limiting the people that can give it out is a decent way to do it.

It's possible that people could earn the right to give out good reputation, by gaining a reputation high enough - that way, consistently helpful or valuable posting can lead to that user being able to give out good rep themselves.

Adding the rep system to this forum would encourage new members to participate more in debates for a few reasons. New members will want to be able to give out rep points and become a known valued member on the site, so they would realize in order to get the privilege they would have to make constructive posts with correct grammar and punctuation and not to flame other members.

Let everybody be able to "rep", but have it moderated so it has to approved by a mod or appointed person to ensure they werent being repped for something stupid.

What i'm most concerned about is what kind of things would you rep someone for? Would you also be able to give bad rep?

I can't see how one person or even the whole mods/admins/eventstaff would be able to moderate the rep if everyone was allowed to do it.

From my experience of PESFan, there is no negative rep - it's kept with the same 'Report' system, with one of the punishments being a reduction in rep. Thus it comes down to the Admin and moderating team as to wether someone should lose rep, rather than someone taking offense to a post that wasn't intended to sound the way it did.

I like the idea of being able to give rep being a reward for constructive posting.

Rep system is unlikely to be installed as its even more useless than infractions, and is simply a system to give each other hand relief.
