BIG D, that was the first real laugh I had today. Thank you.

As for your question, I've never done GCSE's. We don't have them in Germany which sounds good, but isn't really, as you kind of have to stay on til the Abitur (German A-Levels).

Aren't the on about doing the same thing here, so they you leave School at 18 instead of 16. Personally I'd prefer that as in School I was fairly well motivated to a degree but as soon as I left, I just couldn't be arsed but I wanted to.

The fact I didn't have to...Is the reason why I'm here now. :'(

Done and dusted last year. Piss easy 10 GSCE'S in the bag, no revision, spent all of my study leave playin the xbox on a Overhead projector in the science labs, and im not even remotely clever! Course work is so easy your pet hamster could write it and you have like 2 years to do it. I wouldnt complain really.......

I revised for the important ones but luckly I my coursework was so good I didn't need much in the exams. I didn't fail one but didn't get any A's either.

Im taking GCSEs this year, I'm taking.

Maths
Statistics
English Literature
Engilsh Language
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Spanish
Geography
Business Studies
Music
Resistant Materials

Just finished mocks, and I've been getting mostly As and A*s so I'm happy.
I havn't actually got too much coursework at the moment, but revision does suck.

I plan to take Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and Spanish for AS, assuming I get the grades in June.

GCSE's are worthless, if you plan to take A Levels. Just get C's and you can do A Levels which count. However, if you dont wanna stay on, GCSE's do count.

That is one of the most stupid things I've ever herd. Worthless?
Thing is that because so many more people get As at A level than they used to, universities stop accepting people on A level results, and concentrate more on GCSEs.
My sister got 4 As at A2 level, applied to oxford, got rejected because she got 2 Bs at GCSE. Also, now shes looking for jobs it turns out GSCE results are the grade that emplyers take into account most.
GCSEs are easy, but they are definatly not worthless. Infact, they are starting to become the most important and significant exams to take.

Gaskin
27-01-2007, 07:41 PM
AS is only half a A level isn't it, you only get it if you pass one year at 6th form then the full A level if you pass the two years?

I'm also doing my GCSE's, coursework is so boring, especially Art and Graphics because there's tons and it's all utter crap.

I'm taking:
English - 2
Maths
Maths statistics
Science - 2
Drama
History
Graphics
Art
Shitizenship (half course) - pointless.
R.E (half course) - Already finished, got a D.. - also pointless.

Next year I'll be taking Theatre Studies, English Lit, History and either P.E or Psychology. (If I pass my GCSE's)

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE PSYCHOLOGY

Its the most pointless waste of time ive ever had to dedicate 5 hours a week to. It's dubbed the hardest subject of all and contains absolutely nothing of intrest.
It's learning theories off by heart and their criticims and it's more a science of the mind than learning about how people work.

AS = first half of A level
A2 = second year of A level, more important

haha, good one, just because your sister got 4A's, then failed acceptance due to GCSe's, thats not how it works mate, they look at personal statements, and what things you have done outside of school, eg chairty work etc

your sis must of had a crap P.S. because that is what they look at

GCSE's are p**s =].

Started revising properly about a week before the exams started.

Walked out with an A*, 7 A's and 4 B's. Piss :P.

Good luck!

No no, trust me quickshot. I know what I'm talking about.
At Oxbridge they tell you what was wrong if you're declined (well they do at this particular college at Oxford anyways). Her PS was not the problem, the reason that the was declined was because she got a B in maths at GCSE, and a B in something else I can't remember now.

New Bass Man.
27-01-2007, 08:13 PM
Pie, I think you're using a very applied example that doesn't really hold any grounds.

It was OXBRIDGE. Of course they're going to take previous grades into account. They probably had thousands of applicants with 4 A's at A2, of course they're going to look deeper in their selection policies.

Most other Universities would take her in easily. What you're saying has no grounds in my opinion, sorry.

Pie In The Sky
27-01-2007, 08:46 PM
So your saying it depends on the university in question. That's fair enough, I guess in the end it's all about intelligence, eh? ;)

GSCE's are not worthless, far from it. You will soon see how far you get "if" you leave school at 16 with crap GCSE's results. As its been stated already in this thread GCSE's are easy...........Well for me they i got what I deserved as i didn

Well I don't think it's right that we should have to learn about the Christian religion so much. Well maybe it's bad teaching on our schools part but I can't remember Mrs Green talk about anything other than Christianity, I don't recall us learning about the Muslim religion or the way Jewish people worship.

These kind of discussion points have come up before.

RE being compulsory - Obviously it's important to learn about other cultures so you all don't end up as ignorant little c**ts. (Still, some of you must have not been paying attention reading some comments made in other threads).

GCSEs Easy - To get a C? Maybe. To get an A*, no.

GCSEs Important? - Definitely. Its how unis separate the wheat from the chaff.

I'm doing:

English Language
English Literature
Maths
Biology (Triple Award)
Chemistry (Triple Award)
Physics (Triple Award)
Spanish
History

and an AS in French.

Next year I'm doing French, English Literature, Government and Politics and History.

God, Scottish school are stuck with so basic subjects. Well I'm in S4 which I think is England's Yr 11 (not sure). The subjects I have are:

English
Maths
French
Geography
Physics
Chemistry
Computing Studies
Business Management.

Just wondering do people anyway else than Scotland take like pre-exams in November (we do, there called prelims). There kind a good because if you totally mess up the actually exams you can appeal for a better mark (not that the snubby nosed people usually give them but oh well).
