I can't sign in to XBL

I could do with some help. The GH3 tournament has started, so I thought I'd take my Xbox online for the first time in a week or so. I've heard that the XBL Christmas issues have blown over, and my Xbox will indeed connect to XBL in a network test, with open NAT. But when I try to sign in to the live service **THAT I PAY FOR**, I get an eternal "Signing In..." message and it's pissing me off. Is anyone else getting this? Can I have J Allard's home address and an envelope full of poop?

EDIT: OK, I can sign in, but only from the Guide when playing a game. This is bloody ridiculous.

Well, it won't sign in straight from the Dashboard, I have to go into a game, sign in, then go back to the Dashboard to go to things like the Marketplace. So damn annoying.

One of my mates had a weird problem tonight...basically the dashboard has "loading" icon all the time but he can sign in and play on XBL, just cant do anything on any of the dashboard blades.

Mines like that alot of the time and then tonight I got kicked of xbox live and couldn't reconnect :(

yeh, it was doing the same to me. i found on a few occasions if i left it a while it sorted itself out but on others it stayed 'signing in'. anyone have a clue why it's happening?
