Interesting GoW advertisement

Interesting location. Does it work? Can you imaging the readers running out getting it?

This one confuses me because from what i've learnt in media studies so far companies compete for the right hand page advertisements because that is the first page you see when you turn over from the last one, or when you are in a shop flicking through the pages unless you're looking for something in particular then your eyes are drawn to the right hand page. Now this is on the back of the magazine, personally I don't usually look at the back because it is usually an advertisement and for Epic / Microsoft (don't know who produces the ads sorry) to put their game on the back of PS3 magazine just really confuses me.

Does anybody else look at the back of the magazine once they finished reading?

Well when you are done with reading you usually close it with the right hand page going to the left so you see the back cover everytime you close it.

As for the reason it's on a PS3 mag, I'd guess that MS simply arranged a blanket advert on the back of all games magazines with the publisher, Future i think it is judging by the logo on the barcode.

the back cover is usually the most expensive place to advertise, after the inside front cover. don't ask me why, i'm just a humble (ex) graphic designer.

of course it's a good place to advertise - the only people who are going to have a ps3 at the moment will be proper "gamers" and will probably have (or want) more than one console, and those who are waiting for one may well think "cor! that looks good! sod selling my 4yr old child to buy a waffle toaster off ebay - i'll get a 360 instead" :p

You may not know that you look at the back of a magazine, in fact conciously you dont. However when you close the magazine chances are you will see it, but most importantly when you find it laying around days, weeks, or even months after you have read it. You wil definitely see it then. You cant flick through the back of a magazine whereas people always flick through the inside and often miss big chunks, especially when they are adverts. Basically i could talk about this for hours. But one last point. When you see an advert inside a magazine you are conciously going to skim it and look for the magazine content, however the times when you see the back of the magazine you are more open to viewing adverts hence the reason why it is the most expensive place to advertise.

As for it being o the Ps3 magazine, i think that is interesting but basically why not. Free publicity from people such as cat who bring it to more peoples attentions than just those who read it, and also people who have hear of the game but dont intend to necessarily buy a 360 get their memory jogged that the game is out there and people are playing it without you.

Everyone's going to see the back cover of a magazine. It's usually the second thing I see. I always look at the features on the front, then see what the advert on the back is.

It is unusual to find an Xbox 360 ad on the back of a PS3 magazine. I'm guessing the magazine got offered a lot of money for it to do it. The megazine doesn't care if Sony's going to be annoyed, which they most certainly are. I've never seen anyone else do it. Official XBM advertises sponsors and 360 games, I've never seen Wii or PS3 ads on the back of it.

Most ppl who would buy a PS3 magazine would know about GoW anyways whether they are 360 fans or not esp with all the TV advertising, but yeah its a well placed advert for a 360 game none the less.
