Any suggestions for rules, format, songs, settings, etc;

I rarely play GH3 as it gives me real bad cramp in my left arm after about 4 songs! lol :D

Through The Fire and Flames needs to make an appearance, either on Medium or Hard. It's basically a collection of every possible challenge you come across during a song, and is a good indication of whether someone's great at the game or not - particularly as it goes on for the best part of eight minutes.

Please don't throw TTFAF in please :)
Any song but that

Pro Face-Off tbh
I think it show's who's better, rather than doing battle mode.

Best of 5 songs also :D

Definately Pro Face off. I think it should start off with easy difficulties, then work the way up to possibly expert for the finals. Random songs picked for each round with everyone playing the same songs in each fixture; best of 3/5 per match and possibly best of 7 for finals?

DinnyHoon

I don't know fi I speak for anyone but myself, but I find the Easy and Medium songs so monotonous that I tend to drift off and make many mistakes, simply out of boredom from playing such a slow on-beat rhythm. So I often perform better on Hard/Expert mode on a song than I do on Medium (as strange as that sounds).

How long have you had the game for Danny? I've played it it for about 3 hours in total and can only do the easy and medium modes.

DinnyHoon

Because it originally came from "woot, there it is" and Everquest people shouting "woo, loot!". I always thought it was that acronym though.

Hypn0tiK
26-12-2007, 07:12 PM
ok... I think there should be an expert tourney... just for the sheer face that everyone can 100% medium and hard... and expert actually requires skill and does take practise.

Pro face off is a must.. as it gives everyone equal opprtunity to show what they got :P
For the earlier stages, best of 3, progressing to best of 5 and then for the semis/finals, best of 7.
Tbh... alot of ppl got this game for their christmas, and so may not be as good as some ppl who had it previously.. and although ppl may think it would be unfair to play expert songs, it wouldnt really be fair on those who do practise, to have to stoop down to a lower level, as it is realllly boring!

As for TTFAF..what a song lol.. and yes, it should make an appearance, on expert obv! LoL, it is a really fun song to play and requires verrrrrrrrry quick fingers!

Konspiracy, this is KiLLLJiLLL btw... so I do know wot Im tlkin bout :P
Lol.. but yeh, def expert!

Good luck organising this, cant wait to play!

PS. any1 up for some co-op or friendly pro face off... jst add me on live

I'd agree with pretty much everything Jill said. Pro-Face Off, increasing number of rounds, TTFAF appearence.

Also, I'll add you when I get the chance Jill. I could do with facing someone that's actually decent, rather than getting noobs that quit songs half way through just because they can't do them :D

So how about a tournament for Expert, a tournament for Hard, and a tournament for Medium. That way the people that only had this game yesterday or can't master the rhythm can still get involved, and the ones with more time than brain cells can Expert the crap out of eachother.

Would make more sense than simply denying people the chance to play because they're not as good as you

I'm good at most songs on Hard, but I can complete most songs on Expert.

Yeh...

A competition/tournament, aims to find the best people at what it is... and u cant exactly say ur the best if ur only playing on mediumor wotever... because that means that ppl who are waaaay better than u, dnt win anythin coz theyre playin harder songs... also, if u had a seperate comp for each difficulty... ppl that can do expert with ease, may jus decide to play in the medium tourney, just for an easy win... so I def disagree with that..

uh yeh dee u shud add me :P i hate playin noobies too lolzzz

There should be a medium, hard and expert tournament IMO, the expert winner should be the only one that gets the prize, the rest is for fun/bragging rights?. (not sure who'll want to have the bragging rights on being the medium winner though :p)

I remember when i first got this game and tried to play Coop on easy on XBL and some fat yank joined, i choose the song 'barricuda' as it was the only one i knew as i completed very little of the career mode, he started a arguement because he insisted it wasn't 'cool' enough.
pfft

jodahunter
27-12-2007, 11:15 AM
It should be Hard level mainly cos it seems to be the average difficulty used on this forum.

KONSPIRACY
27-12-2007, 01:54 PM
No reason why we cant increase the difficulty as the tournament progresses.

Hypn0tiK
27-12-2007, 07:14 PM
yeh, i was thinkin that... but that means that if someone who is used to playing expert or hard... makes a stupid mistake... then the person who plays medium can get 100% coz they play it all the time, whereas the other player isnt used to playing those notes... The notes get drilled in ur head, and when ur playing on a different difficulty, it is a pain in the arse sometimes lol. I did have an idea but it probably wouldnt work...

U name the songs we have to play.. and the competitors can choose the difficulty, and play it on which ever one they choose.. eg. We have to play One.. and one person chooses to play on medium and another on expert, coz that way.. everyone still has a chance, depending on how good they are at the difficulty they chose... only thing.. there would be no proof of peoples scores.. meh, idk

DinnyHoon
27-12-2007, 08:20 PM
I would love to see Medium, Hard and Expert groups. Maybe the winner of Medium could play the winner of Hard, to face off against the winner of Expert in the final? Then again, unless you choose faceoff (which is horribly unbalanced in terms of notes), Expert boy is going to walk all over Medium Man. So er, I don't know. A segregation of skill levels like everyone has suggested would be great though :)

KONSPIRACY
27-12-2007, 08:22 PM
I can just about manage a few songs on easy tbh! lol :D

If players were to play each other on different skill levels does the harder skill level receive more points for doing so?

Bonzo
27-12-2007, 08:29 PM
You get more points for playing a note on expert difficulty than hard, same goes for hard>medium>easy difficulty.

DinnyHoon
27-12-2007, 08:32 PM
You get more points, but when playing face offs, the Easy player often beats the Expert player. RedOctane have obviously tried to tweak the online play so that every game is an even match, no matter what skill level you choose, and they've ****ed it up. I hit 86% of my notes on TTFAF on Hard last night, and the guy on Easy beat me for hitting 89% of his. I was highly pissed off, especially as he had magically accumed no less than twice as many points as me (and I broke 100,000 by quite a way).

EDIT: However, on Pro Faceoff, both players do the whole song on the same difficulty.

KONSPIRACY
27-12-2007, 10:37 PM
In which case I suggest pro face off over 3 songs...with both players selecting a track and other player selecting difficulty level for that track. The 3rd song and difficulty to be set by MatchBox360 admin.

Everyone agree?

Hypn0tiK
28-12-2007, 12:49 AM
face off is out of the question.. because ye... medium always beats expert unless expert can 100%... which is not always the case... i meant like choose a song... eg. before i forget... A decides to play on medium.. so A & B go into medium and A plays... both record the score and B decides to play on Expert.. so both go in and B plays the song on expert... and both record the score that B gets.. and which ever score is highest wins.. this may seem unfair but there really is no fair way to play an expert player against a medium player... I really dnt know what would be a fair way to judge this competition...

Face off is even.. in the way that whoever hits the highest % wins...

I have played face off and had hardly any notes to hit because the player who is playing at a lower level gets most of the song to play... whoever is more consistent at their difficulty will usually get the highest score..

Spindryer
28-12-2007, 01:07 AM
Why not run the competition on Medium and then have the Semi-Finals on Hard and then the Finals on Expert.

DinnyHoon
28-12-2007, 01:08 AM
I'm thinking more and more that the only sensible non-hassle way to do this is to create 3 groups of different difficulties.

Renegade

Agreed, with only the Expert group having a prize.

Or, the winner of the medium group plays the winner of the hard group on hard, and the winner of that plays the winner of the expert group on expert. Winner of that wins the whole thing.

SFX XoTiC
29-12-2007, 03:45 AM
nah just keep it simple ... i play expert and if a iplayed a song on medium i would probly miss a few dew to getting bored of how easy it was so have seperate groups x

DinnyHoon
29-12-2007, 12:06 PM
Using Renegade's method, you'd never play on a difficulty level below your own, so I think it's a great idea.

BlaqK
31-12-2007, 05:11 PM
I'd restrict it to one level only. And i would suggest the tourney being played on the hard difficulty. People who play expert can easily drop down to hard and the jump between medium and hard isnt that great IMO.

I think if the tourney is played on hard then the matches would be alot more exciting with bigger streaks and bigger scores.

Edit: Then it will come to player skill and who has the nerve to keep the streak going when things in a match get very close.

I would still think having a medium, hard and expert tournament would be best. Having a hard only tournament will just upset medium players because trying to learn the 5th button takes time. It will also upset expert players like myself because it will be far less fun and your fingering for solos will be much different. The same scenarios will occur if we have an expert only tournament or a medium only tournament.

3 is the way to go :)

The final will consist of a best of 7.. the semi's being best of 5. Everything else is a best of 3.

I'd recommend to everyone now to download the Boss track map pack or whatever it's called that's free on the marketplace. As The Devil Went Down To Georgia will be used.

the semi and the final go onto expert.

and i think it should be a pro face off,
battles are gay ;)

and.. the final should be the hardest songs,
semi, second hardest,
