Let me know what you Gears guys prefer n we shall deliver...groups + knockout or double elimination. Your call.

I liked the groups better than the double elimination, more guaranteed matches aswell.

i think that the double elimination took far too long to organise and it confused a few players as well
groups all the way!

KONSPIRACY

Yeah I agree, double elimination doesnt work too well for online events and causes a lot of confusion esp for ppl that dont understand it.

I think the double elimination in essence was a good idea but the organisation was a bit much and there was far too many byes aswell which nobody wants. Also the winners bracket is unfair as they have less games to the final so tht means all the bigger clans have an easier ride to the final. Groups on the other hand are easy to work out, you get to play a variety of different teams, if you have a bad game then you can still progress. Everyone has the same path to the final with the same amount of games.

i dont understand it :(

Whats not hard to understand about you have to get beaten twice to go out.

You win you stay in the winners bracket and if you lose you drop down into the losers bracket if you lose again your out but if you keep winning you get to the final and ply the winner of the winners bracket......simple ;)

Double elimination is really easy to understand but I can see why some ppl just dont get it. To be fair, I dont think its the best format to use for online events.

carn't w8, just need my fellow clan members to sign up ready for this tourny, or can I just register the team and my m8s take part without signing up to MB360, but of course I will encourage them 2 join whatever the circumstances.

RvR dont even play Gears anymore, the last time we played must have been like 2 months ago lol but we will enter for the banter so some lucky clans will have an automatic win in their group haha

All team members need to be registered to the website in order to be able to take part. All teams will be checked.

Double elimination is hard? whats so hard bout it ??? u lose once you go into lose brackets you lose twice your finished. Group stages i reckon would be better however last time or one before that alot of teams signed up to it but never did matches which but alot of delay on it.

If it is groups i definately reccomend same setttings as it was for lan I.E friendly fire on, 10second bleed out, execution.

questions:

is it only xl maps which will be used coz i hope no1 picks rooftops:P
Is there a home and away fixture so u play each team twice or just once?
How does the hosting go? like xl or a alternate host coz alot more host adv online.
Best of 3/5maps first 3/5 rounds

Heh u got time to answer:P?

Infidel
10-12-2007, 02:00 PM
im guessing itll be the same as the last champions league tourney

no rooftops or raven down
both home and away fixtures
alternate hosts
best of 5 maps / 5 rounds
10 sec bleedout
execution
friendly fire ?
5 min round duration

and vince just coz u cant remember how to play doesnt mean the rest of your team doesnt ;)

Have the setttings all been sorted somewhere am i missing them?

KONSPIRACY

Nah the rules havent been posted yet but the basics for online are as follows:

Gametype: Execution
Selected Map: Custom Cycle (restricted maps: Raven Down, Rooftops)
Number of Rounds: 5 (best of 9)
Bleed-Out Duration: 10
Round Duration: 5
Friendly Fire: No
Weapons Swapped: No

- Fixtures will consist of a best of 5 map series.
- Each team will host 2 maps (ie swap home and away after 2 maps).
- The home team will host maps 1 and 2. The away team will host maps 3 and 4.
- The away team (ie non-host) will have choice of maps.
- Each map may only be selected once per fixture (ie upto 5 unique maps to be played).
- Map details are to be stated by the team captains in the appropriate match arrangement threads. The teams drawn as the home team will have priority of map choice.
- If teams are tied after playing their selected maps (ie 2-2), then the team who has won the most rounds in the first 4 maps will host the game and the other team will choose the map. (please note: the 5th map does not have to be played if the outcome of the result has already been determined).
- The home team (as stated in the fixture) will play as COG for all games, and the away team will play as Locust.
- In the event of teams having previously met in the competition the matches will expand to a best of 9, with the team who won going into the series retaining their previous wins (e.g. a team beat another by 3-0 they will take a 3-0 lead the second time they meet).

Group Stages is cool, But can we do like 2 or 3 matches in the week so the group stage will be over in a week or 2 and then the knockouts last only 2 weeks as 10th feb im going on holiday :p SNOWBOARDING!!! :D

KONSPIRACY
20-12-2007, 03:56 PM
We can speed it up a little but expecting teams to get 3 fixtures done per week is unrealistic tbh. Obviously a lot of it depends on how many teams sign up.

hmm.. sounds good lol!!!

WHy does it say best of 9? im guessing we just set it to 5 rounds to the map yea?? lol i found out it was there all along. but 2 hosts in a row/ 2 map picks in a row can be seen as unfair?? specially if your host is a beast lol

Believe it or not but first to 5 rounds = best of 9. ;)

There is no unfair advantage in hosting/picking maps for 2 games in a row as you are required to play a best of 5 map series. If teams would rather alternate host and set up lobbies after each map then I'm happy for you to do that.

- Each team will host 2 maps (ie swap home and away after 2 maps).
- The home team will host maps 1 and 2. The away team will host maps 3 and 4.
- The away team (ie non-host) will have choice of maps.

Can I just clarify that it will work like this as im a little confused

Example: Map1 Our(home team) host they pick map, Map2 We(home team) host they pick map, Map3 they (away Team) host we pick map, Map 4 they (away team) host we pick map

Map 5 Host decided on rounds won other team picks map..?

Ok the Champions League vs Double Knockout debate needs to be opened again...

We've got over 40 teams registered now, so would you rather play group stage plus knockout or a double elimination?

Glorykid

group stage

benji86
04-01-2008, 09:11 PM
Double elimination, its better for tournys and its makes the team play harder to keep there spot.
