The demo for the game that everyone will be buying for the Halo 3 beta is now on Marketplace. It is a whopping 1.24GB, but is meant to feature single player and an online Co op mode.

Has anyone played this yet? What did you think?

Will be downloading this when I get home from school can't wait! :D

EDIT: Finally got to play this today and really liked it especially the graphics which are a nice change from the realism of some. It took me a little while to get used to the LB reload as I kept pressing RB for a GOW style reload :p But yeah will definatly look forward to buying this in Feb.

First impression: Meh.

The movement of the main character is a bit slow, but everything else is a bit too hectic. Might give this another go later.

Did have fun blowing myself and everyone else up with a set of explosive barrels at the start. :D

Well that a waste of a Gb of bandwidth, what a boring demo.

The controls are crap, aiming is just stupid, pull the Left trigger to lock on and burst the right trigger 3 times guaranteed kill!

Fancy some Co Op, sub? I want to see if that is any different.

I heard about this game and thot is sounded really good then I watched the move clip of the game demo a while back, i thot it looked the biggest pile of bollocks.

Man im well disapointed, theres not much great games out for the 360,

GOW.
Call of Duty Series

Halo 3 when it Lands
Forza when it Lands
Next GTA when it lands

And the whole need for speed series it starting to get tiresome and repetitive, lol rant over.

Well I was pleasantly surprised by this demo, I really quite liked it. The Jumping was fun and the increase in strength added some really fun possibilities. A couple of issues I had was that if I was sniping at someone a long way away and was right next to a ledge for some reason my guy would start retardely meleeing the ledge. Also you can get to stupidly high places but it's almost impossible to get back down again safely. This game needs like a parachute or something.

Good game.

Auto aim is fiddly, removes a lot of skill and when there are a lot of enemies it is almost unworkable but you can use manual aim it just isn't as accurate. The intricacies (such as shooting the gang members legs to make them fall over or their heads for one shot kills) are accessed while in aim lock with the rght stick. This works for vehicles too, you can shoot out the tires which makes them skid out and topple over, or shoot the petrol tank for a one shot explosion.

The driving, whilst not as immediate as GTA, is fairly accessible from the start but some of the muscle cars are a ***** to handle. There is a decent variety of vehicles all with individual handling and with agency vehicles upgradable they can only get better. My experience of driving so far is that the faster cars are better left alone because they are difficult to corner.

Melee combat is a bit simple, comprised of a roundhouse kick and weapon strike it gets a bit repetitive and can be frustrating trying to home in on a target. Often the best course is to run at them head on and press B then make another loop for your next target. Despite this it still feels good roundhousing a goon off the top of a tenement block to the dusty ground beneath.

By far the highlight of the game is freerunning the rooftops and searching out the agility orbs (500 in all in the final game). The foot races are very good fun, especially after a couple of agility levels have been attained. You'll find yourself looking over a ledge at another rooftop a few hundred feet away, taking a split second to weigh up the distances and then winding up to hurl yourself into the open, all the while scanning your destination for a ledge to grab onto when you get there.

I've played the demo a few times and have discovered new things every time. As your character levels up you gain access to different things. I love walking down the street kicking the cars out of my path and off the road. Or picking up my co-op partners vehicle while hes in it and throwing it out to sea. When you level up to 3 star agility try going back to the agency island and climbing the tower (its accessed by climbing the ladder on the right of the agency garage). Try stacking up a load of explosive barrels in the street (pick them up by holding B and drop them with B) and backing up the traffic then blowing it all up. Or better yet try stacking cars and blowing the petrol tank on the one at the bottom.

The game doesn't look like it'll last that long. There are only 21 bosses and they are all accessible from the start. What will last quite a long time is playing the game co-op with a friend. Sandbox games are great fun because of all the different things you can do to just piss away time and muck about, now you can do that all with someone else to witness it and even join in.

It isn't actually possible to invite anyone to join you in the demo but if one person sets up the game looking for certain criteria and then the other player custom searches under those criteria it is possible to find each other and play. Give it a whirl.

Despite its faults and shortcomings this is still an easy to play, fun game and I will be buying it.

You got more money than sense Cormac?! :D

Admittedly I only played it for about 5 minutes but its basically the kind of game I hate with a passion...I would class it as a piss poor Xbox game. No wonder they are packagin Halo2 to sell it.

I'll be buying it, I loved it. The only problem I saw was the Camera angles at some points like Driving and when you would be jumping and fighting...I loved the "Power Ups" idea.

It's a deffo Buy for me

I wasn't going to buy this game until i played the demo and i agree with cormac 100% on this one. The combat is a bit pants but just climbing buildings and free running is mint. Finding ways to get higher and higer is just so fun.

Having played the demo a bit more, especially on Co-Op, I have to say this is indeed a lot of fun.

I've always wanted a GTA type game that allows you to play Co-Op and this might just be it. We didn't actually attempt the bosses or gangs at all, but had a lot fun collection orbs, do the races and climb buildings. Has anyone climbed on top of the Agency tower or done the jumping race round the wheel?

As for the controls, the reaction time from when you press a button until when it happens is a bit slow and it would've been nice to have a less annoying targeting system that always seems to target the one furthest away and not the one punching you right next to you.

Not impressed with the driving at all, but I do hope that improves once your abilities rank up.

I will definitely be getting this for Co-Op.

1. Surely we were contributing, we were making it interesting for others :)

No you see thats where you wrong, somewhere in your head you think everyone enjoys reading the first thought that comes into your head, which to be honest is not the most compelling thought.

That aside i got to play this demo, and well it is definately only going to sell big figures because of Halo3, however that said i also do not really like this style of game and it does pull off some things quite well. I think if it had some more shine to it, a few goes over the core gameplay mechanics it could of been a quite nice change for fans of GTA.

Wow.

had a game on this last night with cormac, and i think im gonna be buying this. Now that was a good laugh. the races was very good, i got ahead of cormac, cos he rolled his car 1st corner, and got out and waited for him. when he came round the corner i shot out his wheels and he did flip, it was pretty much like that the whole race , this is gonna be a good game, i dont even care about the halo 3 beta. i just want the game.
