my mate said that you can do challenges to unlock equipment, this is the first I've heard of it, hopefully I'll know wether he's lying or not come december 25th

No, you unlock points towards your rank with challenges.
Then you unlock weapons,etc... as you rank up!

However you do unlock weapon attachments and weapon camo with the challenges though.

Yeh, just the weapon stuff, like 25 kills gets you a red dot scope, etc...

Well it's half true to be fair, in fact challenges are the the best way to unlock weapons because you can get 1000 experience points a time.

You unlock levels by gaining experience points, which in terms unlocks weapons, perks and camouflage. There is a level 55 cap.
