View Full Version : COD4 First Impressions

No multiplayer achievements was my first observation. Most of you won't give a **** but I think its nice to have both single and multiplayer achievements. Halo 3 was pretty suspect with its 100 multiplayer points (125 if you really push the boat out) but COD4 having none is a joke. I wasn't that taken with the multiplayer from the beta so there isn't much reason for me to play it now.

I'd seen a few different Campaign levels before release and I've played the first 3 now but still haven't come across any of the demo or trailer levels. What I have played and seen is very good but its still very linear and isn't that much of a challenge.

I have the game on early rental and will be picking up a copy for my brother tomorrow but its not a game I would buy myself considering all I would be playing would be the single player.

I'm going to have a smoke then go back to the Campaign. May report back after.

Surely COD4s strong point is the MP. I've always enjoyed the COD series campaigns but MP is definitely what I'm lookin forward to on this game.

They've taken the achievements out of multiplayer but they have added in the objectives and the leveling system (all be it some of the game modes now only unlock at levels now - although probably ones that won't get played much anyway). Some of the maps I've played feel a little big for FFA - might just be because I don't know them though.

All looks nice though, quite enjoyed what I've played so far of the single player, yep it's linear - but you do get the typical CoD moments of madness where there's gun fire coming from everywhere. I'm enjoying it, but I've always liked the CoD series anyway.

Well, I've just been out and picked this up. My first impressions? The box is shiny, but it doesn't even come with a two day. What a jip!.

I'll be online tonight playing this unless Neyo appears with a working internet line.

Yeah multiplayer has always been what it's about, and you had those achievements in the beta where you had to kill so many people with a particular weapon.
The fact that the maps are so big is because people die a lot quicker in this game.

I want to know what other weapons you can have, do they still have the Single shot rifles ?
All I used to do was play Rifles only on COD 2 for pc, so they should do this for XL as you will be able to disable certain weapons from being picked when you spawn.

What are all the new perks as well ?
Because it seems that all the new shooters are following like the magic/tech in shadowrun i.e X button in halo 3, bioshock, now perks in COD 4.

Quality, I like the idea of not including multiplayer achievements, stops people like me cheating for them. :D

I like achievments, makes you addicted to a game trying to get them all.
First time I tried to get achievments were for SR and I thought they were pretty mint, halo 3 ones are pretty crappy though.

FiveOhOne
09-11-2007, 02:06 PM
The SR ones took forever though, which is the kind I prefered.. And you had to play the game, and experience it properly to get them. The Halo ones were a nice touch, but they were ones you had to play for, rather that ones you achieved over time if you see what I'm saying?

Rhodes
09-11-2007, 02:12 PM
Yeah the halo 3 ones were all about luck, if you mowed someone down by a mongoose for instance. I enjoy the ones you get over time, because it's like I am 20 kills away from this and that would motivate you to keep playing.

Yeh you get put back to a level 1, it's better that way as everyone will start on the same rank and level!

First impressions, awesome game, something to keep me away from halo for a while i think.

Love it, had to go round a mates house and take over his xbox :p but i thought the campaign was ace and i thought the multiplayer was awesome.

Graphics are stunning, great little features in the MP and i like all the achievements on campagin because it just frees you and you can just play the multiplayer without having achievements in the back of your mind.

Definately the game to take over Gears IMO, Halo should of been that game but it was dissapointing this however is something else :)

The multiplayer side of Call of Duty 4 at this point in time I can't fault. Honestly.

One thing I do hate is why in the single player all of the ******* enemies see fit to shoot at me in cover while my mentally handicaped killing colleagues seem to be able to stand in the bloody open doing a little dance and not be brutally killed on the spot.

I realise it wouldn't be as fun if the enemies did not pay attention to you but I could of sworn that this version of Call of Duty was based on realism. As in if your in war situation I would assume your enemies would want to kill more than one person categorically at a time.

That and the fact my army brothers are incapable of killing anything and rely on me to do anything that is remotely dangerous are my only gripes. Other than that fantastic single player with brilliant set pieces.

The netcode's a bit shitty, had numerous weird things happen - Opening the guide while searching for a game crashed my xbox (Been a while since thats happened) + a few random results when looking for games in a party..

Thats it though.

Wow, and Vegas was too fast to being with.

Another game to throw on the 'avoid' pile.

Take it from the person who logged more than 200 hours on Rainbow Six 3, Vegas is way too fast to be called a true Rainbow game.

Same as I said to the people that slag off Halo 3 because it's not like Halo 2 - they are different games. If you wanted it to be played exactly the same there is no point buying the sequel.

Vegas is sloooooooow. Still apprehensive about purchasing COD4 at the moment. Gonna check it out on PC and maybe ask for it on 360 for Christmas.

OK so i've tried the last VIP mission on veteran and its impossible, anyone tried this mission on veteran and completed it?

Think its called Mile high club or something?

Tugsy
12-11-2007, 12:58 AM
Has any one completed this on veteran yet?

And if so have you completed the final 'bonus' mission? If so, please tell me how it's humanly possible to complete it on Veteran. Mild spoilers below....

The time to complete the mission is one minute, all of the enemies are crack shots, you have possibly the slowest reloading weapon ever to exist, no frags, and of course the retard crew who are only content when their hindering your progress blocking an aisle by standing perfectly still dreaming of what it might be like to ****ing kill someone.

Very frustrating.

Thats what i was saying tugs, the mile high club mission!
Havn't completed the game on Veteran but i have completed that bonus mission on veteran and got my achievement :D

Think i had about 3 secounds left to shot the enemy, first 2 attempts i shot the hostel and got very p***ed off!

Basically the way i done it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbYXV0UivpM

Crashed a few times for me as well and every time I got into a game it brought up game lobby closed and chucked me out... apart from that the game is a beast

Loving this game - only on the fifth mission as I've had loads of uni work to do, but loving it. It runs so smooth on my PC which I really wasn't expecting.

On the plus (or minus) side, there are plenty of comedy physics glitches :D

I hate the way you can't find games in Matchmaking, I've only played about 3 now. And I just go off onto Halo to practice as I'm not patient enough, although I have played some customs which are good.

Single Player I'm not really bothered about, but I liked the assault course in the training, don't know how someone got 15 seconds though, that's insane.

Lordy i only managed 19.5 and that took some doin.

Wiped the first 3 out with two bullets, jumped doon the stairs and shot the guy at the bottom, flash bang, take the two guys out, then next room i shot the guy opposite but stabbed the dude to the right. flash bang, change to pistol do the honours and i was good to go.

Then i looked at the leaderboard and it said some had done it in 11 seconds. They must super fast

Yeah there must be some special way of doing it, I doubt it matters if you beat 15 seconds though.

I'm loving how each weapon is powerful if you can use it correctly. The perk that pisses my off the most is the one where someone dies and they drop a grenade when they do and as most of my kills I get are close range I always get blown up.:(

Aye, I agree. The dropping of grenades feature is stupid, ''Hmm, how can we help the bad players that die.. I know we can give them an auto kill!''. Fecking idiots, the drop to the floor and shoot at least requires some skill to kill your enemy.

Sleight of hand is useful for light machine guns.
I want to see if double tap will give me a huge advantage over players because it would be pretty hard to kill someone with all that recoil, so I'd probably use with scorpion which has no recoil but has a tiny clip so I would need sleight of hand so I can keep on shooting. Or use with shotgun which would be pretty dangerous.

Has anyone noticed you can lunge a lot further with the knife ?
