To stop people discussing things in the friendlies thread!

Played pretty much all night, taking advantage of that extra hour, private chatting to Corkin all night. Bloody love this game but can bloody hate it at times!

I'm now 400 something in the world online leaderboards, 'n' I beat 11th in the world 5-3, now that was something to enjoy. He was the biggest Man U whoring ******* I've ever seen lol, constantly running with Cristiano Ronaldo.. he went 1-0 up within seconds and I thought the worst. But I managed to pull it through and win 5-3! :D You can ask Corkin if you want proof lol.

Ranked is still a bit laggy, but some games are alright. Either way, I love the game. But Brazil/Inter ****ers from Pes6, you're going DOWN! :D

That makes me feel good too as I had a few tight games with Gaskin 400 last night but on the rankings front I have played 2 games and both have been all over the place.
I sware I'm going to run into the daleks shortly :rolleyes:

I saw that in the demo, but i thought they might have fixed it.

I'm staying clear on the ranked until the lag gets sorted. On PES6 I got meself up to about 230, but then gave up after bumpin into far to many cheats, i'll have to try me best to reach a similar position again, but i reckon it'll be harder to totally dominate games on this one.

The games good but still has loads of annoyances, sometimes players won't hit a loose ball when running onto em, the button does bugger all then they just trap it.

It's far too easy to concede free kicks in the one player, well annoyin.

Played 10 or so online games last night and although it is laggy it is very good. AC Milan with Ronaldo are beastly abd Pirlo is amazing at freekicks (scored two in the same game last night:))

My record stands at 8 for 2 although I was 7-0 then lost two games in a row :(

After playing online all I can say is the lag is ridiculous. I have have so many goals not counted players appearing out of nowehere, I think I have had 2 games where the lag has been bearable and that is being generous, it is not a game of skill at the minute, its quite simply who the lag favours at the right moments in the game, this is being put way now and only from time to time played offline till they get this poor excuse for an online mode sorted, they should not even be able to state the game has online play when its like this!

You cant score free kicks! i have put in 3 once in one game and guess what they werent given.

David Beckham direct free kick which i put smack bang in the middle of the top corner and the ****ing commentator said that it was over by a mile :(

The game is absolutely superb. So far I cannot defend for the absolute life of me. I will do exactly the same as what I used to do in pes6 and just get destroyed at the back. Running across the players path who has the ball just seems to compeletly miss the ball and allow the player to continue through unchallenged. Once I get that sorted though I am definitely going to love this game.

Favourite team to play with so far is Valencia. Defense is a bit shocking and doesnt really help out my current dilema, but at least the awesome keeper saves me a few times.

Well, from what I've heard, defenders can't run into attackers anymore and expect to win the ball; you have to press 'A' to dispose the attacker of the ball.

And to put a frown on all those Sony fanboys' faces:

IGN: PES makes its debut on PS3 this year. How satisfied with the game are you compared to the Xbox 360 game?

Seabass: This year the 360 and PS3 versions of the game are exactly the same so I'm satisfied with both. I think it's a good start.

IGN: In the PS3 version we've played we noticed some slow-down in the game, plus the crowd and stadiums aren't as polished as some of the on-pitch features. Will you look to rectify this in the next game?

Seabass: Of course. To be honest I don't think the slow-down is that bad compared to the 360 and as I said, we don't create just a PS3 game, we created both together. But when we compared them directly we were shocked because the PS3 has a little bit more slowdown and we don't really know why.

First goal i scored in a ranked match was a Kaka free kick :)

Hardly ever score free kicks in any pro evo and it was my first online goal for 2008 :D

Played my first couple of games at a HMV pod in central London yesterday: beat a Roma player and Brazil player with T&T. This game could be wonderful to play, but I'm not sure about the niggling fouls and emphasis on set-pieces more. There is one particularly move I've been waiting for to add to my play and I'm very excited about it and the game now.

I will admit when ever ive played PES ive never tried and learned the 'moves' i just play a passing game and that normally does the job. How about you PM with some friendly advice ?

Tell you what is good on this version, the chipped through balls and its a doddle to run onto em with a blisterin half volley. Might even start throwin one two's in there.

The best version ever though for amazing goals had to be ISS on the N64. 45 yard volleys into the far top corner etc. Obviously it wasnt the most realistic mind.

I bought it yesterday, and I've had more time to play with it.

The goalkeepers are simply atrocious - no other word for it. It's as though they forgot to give the keeper AI the code to deal with the new ball physics (which are lightening fast). The new ball physics are both a joy and horror at times: sometimes it perfectly recreates the kind of pace a pass would be, and other times it feels like the ball is gliding along on ice. This creates some sloppy and cheap goals too, with a quarter of the goals that I've scored or conceded been a deflection, or several, off of defenders into the goal.

The referee is anally-retentive, now. And, I see no reason why they had to include 'Diving' in the game, because players are well-able to fall down on the slightest touch from a defender now. Couple this with the invincibility of those players who have above-average dribbling skills, and the god-like players who have both dribbling skills and superior body-balance, you have a game that will all too often be decided on a set-piece, or more. And set-pieces seem easier to score from now.

The initiative seems to always be with the attacking team. I'm not sure about the new mechanics which make speeding past a defender, even with the ball, easier. If you don't have the pace to cope with a Kaka' or any other speed-freak, then you may as well accept the loss. That said, it'll stop hack players who think they're great defenders by playing a high, aggressive line (without being intelligent to use the offside system) because the through-ball is lethal now, and with a speedy player, you'll massacre their defence.

All that said, it's a great game for attacking, and the passing is sublime. And the variety of tricks included in the game will make the game more complex.

Has anyone else experienced problems with their gamer points on PES2008?
I made 3 achievements a few days ago but they didn't update, at first I thought maybe I was just being thick but today when I connected I got all 3 at once...strange.

People have been saying that if the points don't appear, a reboot fixes them and you get the ones you should have ad.

I had the same thing earlier - went 9-0 up and the guy quit out, it went into my last 20 but wasn't on my profile. I waited for a bit and after about 10-15 minutes it was there.

Got my high win ratio achievement earlier. 20 games, 18 wins, 2 losses. Around 600th at the moment, but the rankings have always been a farce.

Just had my first Online game and the lag wasn't that bad, there were moments when i had the ball then it just suddenly warped to the others players feet but other than that cant really grumble.

I was West Ham and the other guy decided to be Chelsea, held him to a 2-2 draw after 90 mins then he got a last minute goal in the second half of extra time, gutted.

Cant remember the last time I actually got to finish a match lol. Last 4 games ive played ive gone 3-0 up and the other player has quit. Getting a bit boring really.

Played 6 games online now. All with Valencia (thats right all you barca whores ;) ) Drew my first game, then have won 5 on the trot. A stat that any barca whore would be proud of :P.

Lol, i dont think ive actually scored with zigic online yet. I scored a couple with him offline against my mate. The guy is a beast! lol. To be fair his heading is prety shocking though. I can find him off any corner, but i cant remember the last time he actually managed a header on target.

Yeah, Zigic is a beast and he doesn't have to be good at scoring: he can just bulldoze the entire defense to make way for someone who can score.

Achievements for things such as Free Kicks or 35 yard strikes won't be counted unless it doesn't touch the keeper or the post. I think.

35 yarder has to be in offline against a computer. Free kicks are online ranked when you're hosting.

I genuinly think that this is the best pes ever released. Its just much smoother, and far more realistic than any other football game has ever been.. When you are in control of the ball.

Whilst being in control of the ball is great, there are a few things that really suck, all of which could (it seems to me) be changed so easily.

1. The lag - obviously number one, and also already being adressed. Still annoying

2. When you change to a player and he simply stops. - Lame. Chasing an attacker back, change to the player best suited to come in and make the challenge... and he stops for just that split second that alows the attacker on to have a one on one.

3. Players running at the player in control of the ball even when you not telling him too.. IF I WANT YOU TO RUN AT HIM, I WILL DIRECT YOU THAT WAY.

4. IF I SELECT MANUAL CURSOR SETTINGS, BE ****ING MANUAL. I have lost count of the number of times that the cursor has changed when i havnt told it to. Sometimes, simply from an attacking corner or something it will do it. Slightly frustrating, get over-able. But when it does it when you are defending it is just unforgiveable and absolutely ridiculous.

5. Begginer keepers online!?!?!?! What the!?!?

I'm 170th or something in the rankings now, 50 wins to 19 losses. I'll accept 2 of those 19, the other 17 (honestly) have all been lag fests. In my last 30 games I've won 28 lost 2. When there's no lag, I love this game. But I am an ultimate whore, except I whore other teams, not Barcelona. Cut backs FTW.

Of course, it is good. One quote deals directly with the sometimes unrealistic ball physics and the other, with the ability to construct sweep, quick and flowing moves. One has nothing whatsoever to do with the other.

my best is 54m, don't ask how, though i did get one from near the halfway line, out wide, thanks to a pre season master league game against some world 11 team.

The comp decided to let buffon take their corners. WTF is that about?

I also played an american 11, keeper was taking direct free kicks, it wasn't chilavert neither.

The keepers are woeful

Online the keepers and AI are set to beginner - which explains a lot of things. Absolutely rediculous.

On the plus side:

And I think I notice a reason why Gaskin has so many losses because of lag - never, in every game I've played online on PES2008, has a game lagged like the one against Gaskin! It was hideous! He disconnected at half time too, not sure if it was on purpose (but knowing Dan, I doubt it) but either way... :p

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think that might be down to your connection mate - that's the only time I've ever had lag like that on PES2008.

considering there was a rave of improved a.i. before the game was released on your team-mates running initiatively and the sort, i cant say ive seen any, for some reason gerrard seems to think hes ronaldo and goes on one man missions, also why have they degraded the game by not having offical united and arsenal kits but newcastle and tottenham hmmmmmmmmmmm. other than thats its good but i cant say its a vast improvement over last years which was still a mediocre offering.

I have noticed the other side improved AI in marking and overall defensiveness, but my team mates seem to just stand there when im running with the ball like there just happy to watch me. Why on earth the computer cant learn to make some space or just move into space for you i dont know.

Little hint for people who want runs to be made by the computer more frequently - tap the right trigger after you pass the ball. The player you have just passed with will then make a run.

... Or just press Left Trigger + A and the players pass then immediately run on. :)

(Or Left Bumper, depending on your controller settings. Left Bumper is normal.)

According to PESFan, that was soon debunked. They denied a patch even existing as of yet. Fingers crossed the 19th is the date though. and it's just Konami being tight lipped...

I have not heard anything of a patch other than that rumour thread on pesfan :)

I have not played pes 2008 online yet on any format.... I always tend to wait until an update comes out :)

Has anyone heard anything more about this damn patch, I am really getting p'd off now with some of the online ranked matches I have played. Yes I know you should avoid them but it's hard to beat that habit!
Last night in one game I had 3 or 4 players running back and forth in a loop in their own feckin net trying to play a ball that was behind the goals and behind the net................funny 2 watch but when you get beat 6-2 by players that f**kin teleport themselves around the pitch it is no longer enjoyable.
Will be on tonight for a couple of friendlies if there are any takers!!!

I hate the Bk's that make forward runs with strong players like Adriano on their terrible host, trying to get the ball off them is made that much harder because your players just run through him as if he isnt there :(

I got this today and found i just can't do it.

I can't explain it other than saying konami have changed the game specifically so that it won't suit my style. I'm gettin ****ed left, right and centre online by people who play like mongs.

I've gone 2-4 online so far.

Don't worry about it, after my first 10 games I was doing absolute crap...I was summat like 3 wins, 1 draws and 6 losses. But trust me, you'll get the hang of it soon. Well at least I did lol. Cant wait to get my xbox back so I can start playing it again :(.

Yes indeed.....although the lag is still wreaking havoc for me I am finding passing a lot slicker at times and some total football being played, the defenders do have a lot to answer for at times but in saying that I feel a Hursti defeat is on the cards :eek:
