Doesn't matter if you go online with it or not, they can find out when you put the disk in your drive, just go online with it geeze theres far to much talk about people being banned for playing games early these days.

I had a player on my list who was playing the game since Monday. And a few of the German players have it already. So, play away.

Add me to the list. I was supposed to be getting it today courtesy of Mr Gaskin, however it appears that I should never trust him again. I will definitely have the game by tomorrow even if my copy doesnt arrive as my housemate is planning on heading out at 5 to 9 to go get it lol.

Will probably be playing against him for most of the day but any spare moments and I will send one of you a game invite..

Roll on the liscensed Tottenham fun ;)

On that note actually, I bet Konami are shtting themselfes that one of their liscensed teams might get relegated.

I'll definitely be up for some games but first I have to carry out the following:

i) Buy a can of lighter fluid
ii) Cover PES6 in the fluid and set alight
iii) Purchase PES2008(a trip to Tescay sounds like a good plan but I'll probably be asleep)

Argh! It didn't come today. It will be here tomorrow, though. First impressions, people? Because to be honest, PES6 wasn't all that. And I mean gameplay-wise, not because of a lack of features.

Renegade
26-10-2007, 01:27 PM
IMO PES6 was the best PES to be released. It was different yes, but no other PES offered the same scope and variation.

First Impressions of PES2008:

Single Player is much, much too easy. First game was a 6-0 battering of France with England, on Top Player. I expected to be tested, and wasn't. Graphically the game is great apart from awful jerkiness during replays and opening sequences. It's not PS3 jerky, but it is more jerky than I expect with a 360 game. The actual play is superb though - it's faster than PES6, and feels more real - a fast player will outrun a slow one, with or without the ball. Player skills are much more evident - I had a nightmare trying to stop Ronaldinho. There are tricks to be pulled off which work really well, and placing through balls is a lot harder than in previous versions. The teamvision AI is very well executed - if you try the same thing more than twice, the opposition will put players right where you don't want them to be. Very nice work, I'm going to enjoy playing this.

Online, the set-up is great. You can reject challenges now, which was sorely missed in PES6. You can view players and decide not to play them, then choose someone else, without having to start the search again. Gameplay online is very laggy at the moment, as was PES6 at the very start. I've only had chance to play one game, but it lagged like crazy at certain parts. If anyone played PS2 PES online, PES2008 has the same features - you can select text that appears during important parts of the game such as when scoring a goal or conceding - usual Konami stuff like 'Nice shot!' and 'Oh no!'. They are not editable though, which is annoying.

Others:

The vision cam aspect is rubbish, I tried to put myself onto a player and it looked awful. Might need more practise, but I can't see it being something I will use. Music in the game is utterly dire. Apart from Kaiser Cheifs being the theme tune to the game (good choice!), the IGM is bland at best, and embarassing at worst. I guarantee the first time you hear 'football, soccer, football soccer, best game in the world!' you will get rid of it from the playlist.

Overall - very good. A great improvement, but some long term PESers are going to be put off. It feels more arcade, and reminded me of FIFA on several occasions. It suffers from the usual 'adaptation period' that all new PES iterations have, where at first it's going to feel utterly alien and scoring seems more luck than skill - however that's the same every year. As usual, it could have been a million times better if Konami focused on the little things that all add up, but the actual football is awesome. It's definitely PES, just not quite as we know it. What it is, however, is a great football game.

Gaskin

The one thing I prefer about Fifa, the single player. It's just a lot more fun. Don't know why

Can't be ****ed to play PES single player atm, who wants to play me online, learn the strings together?

Edit: Wow, this game's online is ****ing awful. Admittedly I've only played 3 games, two of which have been europeans. But still, it's laggy as hell. But it's stupid lag where it ****s up the animations, so you think they're going one way and they disappear. Really really really disappointed with this game atm, I hope it grows on me.

NeoKubrick
26-10-2007, 04:40 PM
heh

I heard from the Germans it's a lag nightmare at the moment; so, I decided not to pick it up till some tournaments get off the ground. I was very worried when I saw that one achievement was for when you score a goal from 35m, which makes it sound as though that's par for the course on this PES...

OB1theGeordie
26-10-2007, 04:54 PM
I hope they patch the lag, it is absolutley woeful. Struggled to get a game too. I love pro ev but if they can't fix the online faults it will be scandalous.

No achievements for the master league either is a bit pants. At the mo, i'll get the points from it, play it with pals and a few beers and pray the lag and match up taking ages gets sorted.

Okay the game has grown on me, but the lag online is fecking annoying. I've had some alright games, but the 3 games I've lost have all been lag fest where it's whoever luckily presses x at the right time wins. Annoyed that Arsenal have been made ****, but Newcastle ftw.

Gaskin
27-10-2007, 01:46 PM
Yeah that's the lag I've had in those games I've lost. :(

The ball goes in the net, then out, then in, then it's a corner. Bloody annoying to say the least.

I've played one ranked game, managed to win, it's on me recent 20 results but hasn't went onto my profile record. Rather odd.

Konami have said there working on the lag for the PS3 so they damn well better sort the 360 lag out too.

27-10-2007, 02:26 PM
So you are saying based on Newcastles form this season they are not a good team? It is partly as they are now licensed but I think it is a good reflection of the squad we have.

As for the other 3 teams in question, they ae just as good, whats wrong not too good with them? I can play equally well with all 4 I just choose Newcastle as I support them.

Gaskin
27-10-2007, 02:44 PM
No, no. I think Newcastle can be awesome, just had a poor start to the season that's all, they have a brilliant squad. I destroy people with Newcastle, they just fit my style of play a lot better than Arsenal, I haven't played as United or Chelsea yet though. If I play with Arsenal, I 'll be putting Walcott in the side, I need speed.

kHz HaVoK
27-10-2007, 02:50 PM
As gaskin said thats the only reason i play with newcastle and did so on fifa 08 aswell.
I've always liked newcastle as a team and this year they have a really good team and manager.

Newcastle FTW!

First impressions
Managed to get a couple of friendlies in against Renegade earlier today and they weren't too bad but the "teleport mode" as I have kindly named it is very irritating especially as my first ranked online match had players doing more disappearing acts than feckin Dr.Who!
They'd need to sort that poo-poo out for sure.
Aside from that the actual gameplay seems pretty damn good and at times it feels like you have to play some real football instead of the hit and hope feel of PES6.
If they can sort out the online side of things then I'll be happy with my ?37.71 spend at Tesco :)
I'll be on tonight until late especially with the clocks going back so anyone who fancies a few games just send me an invite.

Nimac vs Renegade....
HA. HA. HA :D
He'll tell you the rest ;)

France v Brazil
Indeed I will.................
The game starts with Big D giving it the large about how he was going to trounce me 5-0 as he had just beaten me in the first game but I was just getting warmed up at that stage!
5 minutes in and McClelland is 2 up and Renegade is sweating profusely(I could hear somebody wiping a towel across his forehead....my mic is very sensitive I'll have you know)
Anyway to give him some credit(like he needs it!) he pulled it back to 2-2 before 1/2 time.
Game almost over and the referee gives him a pena that never was, somebody clipped boots with Cambiasso(I think) and the baldy bstard ref points to the spot.....the inevitable happened as I don't know what my keeper is at nowadays when it comes to penalties and Renegay is laughing them off at this stage....meanwhile my missus is banging the floor to get me to keep the noise down. To top it all off I get clean through with some great pass and move stylee work and the ball is going in....well I thought it was until it hit the post on the acutest angle and goes straight back to his keeper.
Finishes 3-2 to Ren and I'm off to bed not amused :)

Yes, think it was Fenerbache though 2-1 might be a bit generous it may have been 3 or 4. They just fell to pieces.
