View Full Version : Anybody skateboard here?
Hey just wanted to find out if anybody skateboards on this forum?
I just went back to an indoor skatepark (rampworx) today and found out I could still drop in!
lol That might sound like i'm bad at the sport but I havn't been skating in about a year to be honest so does any have any trick tips?
My trick collection comes to a grand total of 2 tricks the ollie and the shove-it.

I used to skateboard once upon a time.
Used to be able to ollie, shove it, kick flip, heel flip, kick flip shove it and grind a few rails.
The first constructive thing I did at school was make a grind rail out of old school tables and some scraps of steel.

Nice, do you have any tips for landing a kickflip because I can kick the board over it just seems to fly about a foot in front of my just so I can't land back on it.

I couldn't put how I did it into words so I googled skateboard tricks and found that site.

I used to, stopped bout a year ago. I was pretty good though.
I street skated though, not vert skating.
I had Zoo York deck, with Independant trucks, blueprint wheels, and bones reds bearins.
Favourite trick was the tre flip, which was like my signature trick haha.
Kinda miss it tbh.

Never too old to start it back up again :)

My set-up.

Havent bothered taking it off my bag since i strapped it there for the sesh last saturday. The deck is new, which explains the shineyness.
DayC, just start off by doing what feels natural, and trying a little bit more each time in a natural progression. It's a lot easier than trying to go for some complex trick straight away. But doing all the little stuff and less interesting sutff to work your way up to it, it means it'll be easier in the end, and you'll also have mastered a whole load of other stuff too.
For example, my 180 to rock & roll out. Start getting used to the ramp, like that mini ramp or the one next to it with the spine (its a lot smoother, and usually more empty). Just try pumping it and stuff, and you'll get a feel for how the ramp curves, and where you start to lose speed before you turn near the coping etc. Then work on your rock-fakies. Once you got that solid, like you feel comforatble and know where you should lean etc and when, try 180ing out of the rock. Next try cominging up to coping in a fakie stance (like, imagine dropping in, ride up to the otherside, rock, and come back down so you're going backwards), and 180ing into the rock, and riding out. Because you have mastered all the simple stuff first and seperatly, you should know exactly when to turn, lean and release etc, it'll all be natural.
Now try putting it together, for one trick, thats what i did. Because i got these all down to a T seperatly, i can now do them all in a run, and combine them for stuff. There's this kid who starting coming recently and he wanted to do it, so he tried to do a 180-rock and roll out straight away. Needless to say, he stuggled with it and took twice as along as i did to master it, it still looks sketchy as **** when he does it.
Anyay, i think the best advice i can give is that you shoukld get used to your board first and foremost. you've got a good set-up, so just try cruising around, y'know, pumping over stuff and pivoting on quarters. This is what i was doing while everyone was learning thier fancy tricks. Looks who laughing NOW eh? I cant kickflip for s**t but i can ride pretty much anything. you just gotta get used to your board so it feels natural to ride, and you can manoverure your way around wihtout even thinking about.
And make sure you LOOSEN UP. Most new people are way too rigid ion thier boards (Chris still is), liek you gotta move with the board, to make ti go qwhere you wanna go. Otherwise you're board is gonna be moveing and you wont, so you'll most likely bail.
Another good tip is to start going frequently, say like, every Thursday 6-10 ;) and you'll notice the difference, it'll take a lot less time to warm up etc. Skate with us cos its more fun and motivating than by yourself :D.

Skateboarding is awesome, used to do it a while ago, stopped now however, my mate got a new deck this christmas just gone, so I might borrow his old deck, as I f***ed mine up turning it into a snowboard when it didn't even snow properly anyways :(
Can't do many tricks cos I don't bother practicing them much, but I can manage kick//heal flip, ollie, pop shovet. Can drop in too, most times if I'm skating i'll be at the skatepark (manchester or a quiet one in hyde) just dropping in and cruising around the ramps. Next time I go I might have a dabble at transferring this spine, it's abit high up than I would like it to be, which is putting me off. =/

My longboard and Skateboard setups.
Only just recently started skating again but I've got back into the swing of things fairly fast.
I can do pretty much everything I used too plus now I can indy off the floor over a drain which is pretty cool.
Im going to my local skatepark for the first time on monday so i'll try and get some video footage of me raping myself :o

I had amate who was into it and tried to get me into it. Whilst I was happy enough bumming the crap out of tony hawks on PSX I think I had about as much talent on a real skateboard as a bumble bee would at karate.
I was being very tentative with it all and I finally got pissed off and properly went to go for an ollie - and nearly broke my hip like an old mana t the age of 17 or something. I actually fractured my hip... So I quickly rattled off a list of more fun things that hurt less and decided it wasn't worth it. I prefer inline skating now.

I used to skate, i was pretty good used to live at the pretty famous south coast skate park in Southsea. Also been to the Sony park in London. But I gave up proper skating last year, mainly because it was just wearing thin for me, and being at the same level is pretty draining.
The best thing about skateboarding is the culture that comes with it. I miss the days when I was 14 had **** all worries and could spend all night in the local multistorey car park with a few bottles of 11p coke. Most enjoyable days of my life.
This was my last set-up, which I still have:

Alien Workshop? Haven't seen many people with those. The green-theme you have going is pretty badass.
How can you skate with that much mud and **** in your griptape though!?

AWS are quite rare in the UK, but I think there the best board by far.
Yeah i like the green, the trucks "Tensions" were Luminous at one point which was beast at night.
Yeah the tape is pretty ****ed, got a mix of everything on there, blood, mud and probably piss. Where cthe tape has been cut isnt for decoration, but for placings of my feet.

Why do you think they're the best? By design fair enough, but by quality... They make a lot of the same brands in one factory, they just stick a different design on it.
Don't you mean Tensor trucks? I've had a pair of Tensor trucks for over like 5 years, they're great. My grip is cut for both, so i know which end is the back, but i also had a Adio sticker i just had to use :). Get some new griptape, it's amazing how much difference it makes.

I remember going to the top of the vert half pipe looking down and nearly dropping a load lol, was well to high for my liking.

Yeah it's sick. Its gay that you have to wear helmets there though. Iv always thought protection kind of ruined the whole point of taking part in skating. The fear factor that you could potentially smash your brain in on the floor is what makes sports like these for me so compelling.

That was the only problem I had with the park aswell really lol.
Arrived there early for a long day skating and ended up spending half of the day looking for a skateshop to buy a helmet.
