I'd like to welcome Markogardinic to Matchbox

For those of you that don't know...

Marko is one of the top Pes players in the country..

Last year he finished 2nd in the UK on Pesrankings and did the same this year.

Marko will be representing the UK this coming October in the Pes 6 PS2 European Finals and will be in company with Pesrankings UK No 1 Rob Mclean :)

Marko's background is from the PS2 community, However he has been playing the Premier version of Pes 6 on the 360 this year aswell, and finished 5th in the UK in the Xbox 360 Rankings, which goes to prove his quality at the game on multiformats :)

Welcome Marko and glad to have you on board dude.....

I look forward to playing and beating you in the future ;)

Love

Matt aka Xbox 360 Uk Number 1 ;)

Awww no need to welcome me like that, all embarrassed now! :D

I dont like the PS2 version much, prefer playing the 360 version :) Cant complain too much about the PS2 I suppose since it did get me a Euro spot lol

Cant believe after all this time we still havent played each other! Its about time we got our 360's together and had a duel :p I reckon I could give you a good game :D Would be a nice football match played the way its supposed to be as well :)

Yeah FIFA08 has been added to the tournament lineup with a guaranteed £1000 cash prize fund, however PES2008 will also be featured on freeplay and a free to enter tournament during the course of the weekend.

RobMclean
05-10-2007, 02:06 PM
What is freeplay?

If PES is there and there is some sort of prize il attend. Im not sitting in a corner with a bunch of randoms though in the "crappy games" corner or anything...

Hopefully it will get sorted and Fnatic will get me there. :)

BARR2K

At present Rob there are talks ongoing to get a Pesrankings 360 event on the go... but we will not know more until next week... I am very hopeful though that there will be a Pesrankings event :)

Freeplay is a term used for pods available for friendlies....

RobMclean
05-10-2007, 03:26 PM
Yeah, thats what i thought, i have no intention of travelling half the country to play some friendlies on a pod. :D

Lemme know Matt.

You know i like the big events etc and il be there if some sort of credible event is ran but there aint a chance in heaven that im attending to sit in the "crappy games corner" on freeplay whilst the "stars" play their big boys games.

Keep us up to date :)

But McLean, first prize for the PES free-to-enter tournament is a copy of FIFA 08 - second prize, FIFA 07 - third prize, an EA t-shirt.

Hopefully I'll be able to confirm prizes for PES2008 in the next few weeks.

I come to XL for the laughs mainly, but without PES there, there isn't a single game I want to enter a tournament in, so there is little point me paying the entry fee. Most players don't enter tournaments for the prize fund.

do you think gamers pay entry-fee for XL for freeplay, or the chance to play on exclusive EA titles such as FIFA 08 or the half-chance that they may win free-prizes from the lucrative treasure chest of EA? And there can be only three people who win anything from the FIFA tournament. So, I don't see where this "majority of gamers" will appear from; I think gamers go to XL to compete in tournaments and meet fellow clan-members or people.

You've got what you want at XL so heres the link for the tickets office lads:

Yep and its free to enter so you only have to pay your admission.

Obviously as its a free to enter tournament there will be no cash prizes though, however we're doing our best to provide some kind of prize for this. Its ok...I know you love me! :D

RobMclean

Get a prize for it and il probably attend if its a decent prize - aka not under ?100... might even be my first big event for my new clan :D

Marko will probs come along too.

Matt might know sponsor people for a prize, i dunno.

The best tend not to go out their way to travel over 500 miles to go to an event with nothing to gain :D :D

Unless matchbox pay me to do showmatches i aint coming for the hell of it!

I really wanna come though as i know the infused GoW team and i just wanna get a few wins under my belt for Fnatic tbh.

Hopefully there will be a decent prize and il make the trip

No offense but it's not up to you to dictate what the prize is going to be or what it should be worth. Most of us were annoyed that there was no tournament there in the first place, regardless of the prizes, because we want to turn up and play PES on a bigger scale than usual, against people we usually only talk to online. I've had a pop at you before for devaluing PES and sucking the fun out of playing it competetively - if the only reason you're playing PES is for the prizes at the end of it, it's not surprising...

I dont see you travelling about 1000 miles to play a game of PES? Saying Rob is only playing for prizes because he wont travel 1000 miles to get nothing but some fun in return is ridiculous. You wouldnt do it so why should he? Its only 800 miles for me and I'm definitely not going for nothing, its even further for Rob :D

I drove 4 and a half hours to get to XL 1, and then the same back. A lot of people came from Europe, having booked flights and travel. Some people do it because they enjoy playing PES (or whatever they play) in a bigger environment, with people they want to meet and enjoy playing against, and have a crack in a tournament for the fun of playing. Others do it so they can win a TV. Just saying, that's all.

Marko9Gardinic

Where are you from? I'm guessing those Europeans didnt come over for a game of PES with no prize though did they :p

I was in Wales at the time, on my work placement from Uni. I've no idea whether they went for a game with no prize or not - I know why I went, and with a prize or not I would still have been there. I wasn't going to go to XL for freeplay PES, but will be going for a tournament, regardless of whether there is a prize or not. I find competetive PES much more enjoyable, I really don't care whether I walk away with a Plasma TV or a pack of Nice n Spicy Nik Naks.

Marko9Gardinic
08-10-2007, 12:57 PM
Well I dont know about that being a four and a half hours drive from Wales, since we can get there in four from Glasgow, thats a debate for another time though :D

I know you and Rob really love each other :p Most times you have a go at him I'll probably join in with you ;) I just thought that was a bit harsh on that one.

I too enjoy PES when its competitive, I always lose friendlys cos I dont give a monkeys about them :D But how can it be competitive with no prize? Even me and my mates cant sit and play it without putting a little prize fund in for the winner ;)

Hey...

low blow :D

I dont play PES purely for prizes, it is fun to play PES. But if you travel 5 hours to play pes with people you met online, your the one thats a bit strange, not me.

I dont play purely for fun or purely for Prizes.

If i never went for fun though, i wouldnt attend any events as fun is what its all about. Im not dictating prizes either, just giving my views.

Im going to a tourney in London this month as a guest and not even playing, just doing some showmatches.

But i woudnt be doing it if i had to pay my own travel etc... cos it seems pointless. That make sense?

I wanna come for fun but a prize is a good incentive for people to go. Dont have a pop at me when you dont know me, cheers!

What opportunistic and ruthless business tycoon is paying you to play in London this month and for what event?

What you forget Rob, is that by 'putting yourself about' and doing showmatches as a guest, moaning on TV about camera angles yet walking over to PESFan and showing off being on TV, and the few times I played you when I played the PS2 versions, people know more about you than you think - the problem with that is that people only know the sides of you that are put across to them, and in your case the side of you we see isn't particularly appealing. Whilst we have never met in person, we have spoken multiple times and in both your style of play and your posts on here and other places, it comes across that winning is more important than enjoying it. I have been guilty of playing in an awful way to secure a victory, but what I won't do is parade myself because of it. I beat a player I respect by playing like a nob, and apologised straight away. I know he didn't enjoy it, and I regret that I felt the need to do it. From what I've seen, you don't.

What you said here is 'I will only turn up if the prize is worth winning' - which comes across as stupidly arrogant, and very conceited. I travelled that length of time to meet people in person that I had a lot of fun with when playing online, and to get involved in what I consider to be one of the best online gaming communities on the planet. I lost in the Quarter Final to the winner, and walked away with nothing. It was bloody brilliant.

You don't seem to appreciate the fact that your travel and entry is subsidised for you, and that, rightly or wrongly, new players look up to you as 'the UK number 1'. You are a representative, a (lol) celebrity if you will. So to go all Mariah on us and say 'not going if my travel isnt paid for' sucks - there are plenty of people that want to get as good as you claim to be, that are still paying to get there.

Anyway lads

Can we stop the bickering... we all have our opinions and are entitled to them... Lets all stay friends...

My opinion is that these are forums for 360 Pesrankings Events.... I am the UK Number 1 360 Pesrankings Player.... So I am the kid to beat ;)

PS2 can go and suck my nads.... the games been going downhill on that format for about 3 years and so I discount that from any argument I have about who's better.

Rob Mclean is a great player and will adapt to the new version of Pes.... Its upto him if he wants to travel to venues to compete and his entitled to base that opinion on if the prize is good enough for him to attend...

Even if it were, he would not win anyway..... 360's my town lol ;)
