Yea there are hundreds of companies in the Uk but the majority of the work is PR and minor office work. This is very difficult to get into and to get a job with them you really have to be willing to move to where they are located.
Bizarre creations are based between manchester and liverpool.
UbiSoft are based in Surrey.
Edios are based in wimbledon.
EA are based in Surrey.
There are loads out there but all the jobs you either need 5 years passed experience in the same job, a degree in marketing or computer coding, or to actually know someone high up in the company.

EA are recruiting for games testing at the moment, but the working conditions are crap and the money not worth it.
Furthermore you need to be over 18 and preferrably speak a European language to near native standard. They also tend to ask for A Levels.
Best bet is to sit through the A Levels. Trust me.

Exactly what CAT said, A-Levels are a breeze aslong as you put the time in and i regret slacking in them and only coming out with 2 when i could of easily had 4. You would be extremely lucky to get into any comapny with no experince or A-Level standard qualification/portfolio.
However if you are serious about this then what Cat said, you get your foot in the door so to speak by doing games testing.

this is the reason im resitting my maths year, and my chemistry, but that was failed due to other reasons
280 points with 80 in A2 maths gets me into computer games design @ Northumbria
4 years later i get hired, as coders who have done games before are hard to find
Chemistry? Wow I'm surprised, think Physics would've been a better choice by a long way.

no i think i have a fear of physics now, ever since i went on a trip to Geneva and became diabetic, i just couldn't handle physics, + chemistry is allot harder than you think
@ cat, when i went to the open day, the guys who run the course co-operate with game studios, so in a way, its correct

Oh I know chemistry is hard, did it as a Standard Grade and barely passed it, it's just in the gaming world you'll be dealing with physics a lot more than chemistry.

i know that the case, but, at the open day they said, you don't even need maths really, its just a bonus, as you just learn it when you need it, and ive already got a basic knowledge of phyics, i just hated the teachers more than anything else

It's like the fact medical schools want chemistry, not biology as it isn't required for entry.

Slightly different, medical schools will teach you biology, whereas I doubt EA will have any physics professors handy to lecture on the fine art of quantum mechanics.

its he same with the games design course, you don't need physics, just a good maths grade and i guess ICT
