I'm considering upgrading to an elite, mainly for the increased hard drive space. However, I want to be able to transfer all of my data from my 20gb hard drive to the 120gb one before I do.

I've seen an offer at Gamestaion where you trade it in and get the elite for ?139. I asked if I could do the transfer in store, but they say I need the cables. I was under the impression they came with the elite, I'm searching but I can't find these cables anywhere.

I thought the Hard Drive came with one, but the elite didn't (as microsoft had been saying the elite is for new users and the hard drive is for those who want more storage)

Not sure if this is the one for the UK as well http://assets.xbox.com/en-us/support/MigrationKit-OrderForm.pdf but can use it to request one if you have an elite

No the elite don't have the cable. You have to order it from micro soft(free)
It just take's three week's.You have to give them the seriel number first tho.And you WILL lose any thing you have saved on the 120 gig while waiting for the cable. The Elite comes pre loaded with 15 arcade games and three demo's

Well here's how I plan on doing it.

Getting the cable:
Taking my premium up town to trade in for an elite:
Trade in my premium and purchase the elite:
Whilst still in store use the transfer cables to get all my content of my 20gb and put it on the new 120gb:
Go home with HDMI, a quiter console and 100gb more space.

How do you plan on transferring the content in store? Unless you have a mate on the inside who has a set of cables and the disk. You need both the serial number of the Xbox 360 and the elite you purchased with the purchase date as well. I ordered my cables about 2 weeks ago and they still haven't arrived, my mate ordered them 3 weeks ago and they still haven't arrived.

Apparently it takes quite a while to transfer. If you have a memory unit, just transfer some of the stuff over already.

Things like your profile and Arcade games can be redownloaded/recovered.

As for the cable, I ordered it the day I got my 360 and still haven't got it...

I don't have a memory unit. I have a hard drive. I shouldn't need a memory unit.

I want everything on my Xbox 360 20gb onto the 120gb. I can't believe the Elite doesn't come with these cables.

Agreed.

The way MS are justifying it is that many people with premiums don't 'upgrade' to an Elite, so it isn't necessary. Whereas the HDD on it's own is seen as an upgrade and therefore comes with a cable...

Spot on the logical thing for me would be for each shop just have a set of cables ready. There offering a deal with the exchange of a console, but if I did it the long way round I would lose the trade in value of my console and not get as good a deal on the Elite.

They are ingenious in their methods to **** over the customer aren't they? What they ****ing should do is let any one gamertag have online storage of 20gig for a time period not exceeding 3 days. That would let people sort it out.

You can trade in your HDD later on when you've transfered you data and get ?32 back from gamestation. That's what they told me when i got my elite.
