The first round fixtures for the Gears of War UK 4v4 Execution must be played & results reported by Saturday 15th September.

You are to play a best of 5 map series as specified in the Gears of War Rules (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/rules?event=Gears+of+War+-+UK+4v4+Execution).

The Round 1 fixtures are as follows:

Please note: we would appreciate it if all teams concerned play with good sportsmanship and refrain from the use of any glitches or cheats. Should you believe the opposition has cheated in anyway, then you must supply clear evidence so MatchBox360 admin can take the appropriate action.

Any team found fielding non-registered players is in breach of the MatchBox360 rules and will subsequently be disqualified. It is the responsibility of each team to ensure opponents only play with fully registered team mates. As such, please supply evidence (screen shot or game links) to prove any use of illegal players.

shame about us getting a bye tbh coz were a bit short on match practise and could do with a game, and i guess this means the double elimination bracket thing is all messed up? not that i understand it anyway.

the bys are very strange, 7 out of 10 teams are very big and well knows, volocity gaming were best uk tream last time, and KHz both get bys and so do Xg, its very strange how both of there teams have made it thought

None of Velocity Gaming went to XL so your theory is a bit flawed and just because we came third last time I think has no bearing on it either. As xTUGx were the 2nd highest UK team so by your theory you should have gone through too.

But if last years placings did have a bearing then surely the team im captaining should have to play the 1st round as I am the only member of that 3rd place team.

I think it was randomised :D

It was most likely build from seeds. Like every other event ever is, it's not unfair. Higher seeds get a bye, they're a higher seed because they've participated in more tournaments. What's so hard to understand?

The fixtures and respective byes were based on seedings from XL and previous MatchBox360 online events. Please read the rules (http://www.matchbox360.co.uk/events/rules?event=Gears+of+War+-+UK+4v4+Execution) where it clearly states:

Seedings will be calculated from results of previous online tournaments and MatchBox360 XL. Any new teams will not be seeded and fixtures will be drawn at random accordingly.

To my knowledge TUG neither attended XL or played in the previous Gears of War online tournament. Correct me if I'm wrong.

were big and well known?, wow thats news to my ears i didnt think we have made an impact at all really. personally i think our gears team has underachieved despite the third place last time, as we have some really good players but we have never really got organised with proper tactics/positioning like some clans do as sitting in a set lancerbattle until the ammo runs out is boring which has probably been our downfall. halo3 and cod4 and tf2 are coming out soon so its a bit late to start with that now anyway.

also i think you forgot TCG as they are a big clan with a large playerbase at both casual and competitive levels and have been on XleagueTV and in magazines.

i just thought it would of been better for every team to play each other without no byes.it would of been a "fair competition" for every team then.im sure some less experianced teams would benefit from playing the other higher teams.

With all due respect you obviously have no idea about how tournaments work...its better to have byes at the start of the competition than it is to have them when it comes to the quarter or semi-finals. At the end of the day all teams will play 2 fixtures before being eliminated, and the seedings prevent the top teams from playing each other in the early rounds.

well you've got 10 teams there, seems to me that you could have had another 5 matches without any of this bye stuff, you know for a fair tournament.

Please dont question the tournament format...this is the fairest way for all teams involved.

If you know anything about tournaments then you would know that there is no way of avoiding byes when the required number of teams hasnt been reached (ie 4, 8, 12, 16 or 32). If I'd have done as you suggest then there would been byes in the later rounds which is a lot more unfair than giving the highest seeded teams byes in the first round. If I'd have done as you suggest then there would be a bye in every other round including the semi-final.

well i wouldnt say we dont know anything about these tournements.......just no one has any idea how the hell this double elimantion works as it has barely been used, why????? might be rubbish or just too complicated who knows


im not questioning about the bys, just think its a big cowincedance(sorry for spelling) that the bys have been give to 10 teams, out of them 10 teams there are 6 clans.

surly teams with lower seeds get though because they will stand a bette chance of going far, not high seeders

well the bys are for sure not picked by teams who have participated in XL leagues because were in the finals of XL league so we should have got a by but its all cool it was probably just they picked 6 clans to get bys and those 6 clans had a few teams in

MatchBox360 and XL are not associated with XLeague and it would be completely wrong of us to base any decisions on the performance of other competitions not associated with this site. As I've said already and as stated in the rules, the teams selected for byes were based on seedings from our previous online tournaments and at XL.

as konspiracy has said in another thread regarding this matter it is the responsibility of both teams to arrange the game between them, it makes absolutely no difference who is home or away. if neither teams have made an attempt to contact the other then they are both fully responsible.
