Thought I'd post this for anyone with the wireless 360 racing wheel:

Action is Precautionary and Voluntary Following Reports of Component Malfunction

REDMOND (August 23rd 2007) ? Microsoft Corporation announced today the company is taking a precautionary measure and voluntarily providing customers with a free retrofit to the Xbox 360 Wireless Wheel.

The action is being taken after Microsoft was informed of a very small number of incidents of a malfunction in the Xbox 360 Wireless Wheel, where a component in the Wheel chassis may in rare cases overheat and release smoke when the AC-DC power supply is used to energize the Wheel. There have been no reported incidences of fire, personal injury or property damage due to the component failure in the Wheel.

Owners of the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel should stop using the AC-DC power supply until they have obtained their retrofit. Owners may continue to operate the Wheel using battery power.

Owners of the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel should visit www.xbox.com/support or call Microsoft at 0800 587 1102 to register for the free retrofit and protect against the potential hazard described above. Instructions, if necessary, will be provided with the retrofit. We are notifying and will be coordinating our response activities with the relevant regulatory agencies such as the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. This may impact delivery dates.

My only comment on this...my mates bring their "wireless" racing wheels round every other night to my house and how these can be classed as wireless is beyond me!

why is it, that everything xbox 360, breaks ? what the hells up with that. recently my 360 seems to be playing up, the disc drive is makeing some funky noise, and sometimes says dirty disc, and sounds like the disc just stops spinning. no doubt on its way out. but come on M$ spend a bit of money on some decent hardware that will last.

That's what mine did - the disk seemed to stop spinning and would freeze occasionally. It started on Forza 2, where it froze on track loading every now and again, and I had to press on the front of the disk tray to get it to carry on loading and start spinning again.

i know but mine is still going to die, one day, and i can get away with trading in my old premium for an elite, but id have a hard time convincing the staff i want to trade in my premium for a premium....

Good point.

Do we get the 3 year warranty now or is it something gay like "just for US" ?

Worth pointing out that the 3 YEar warranty is for the Three Red Lights issue, other issues aren't covered therefore you still have a Standard 1 Year Warranty just extended for that issue. I suppose purely to improve consumer confidence.

I have the Racing Wheel and like Kon says it's not Wireless, it can be Wireless but theres No Force Feedback so it becomes useless. Either way I haven't had the issue so do I still have to go through the hassle or do I wait for it too break, the idea of speaking to Customer Service is very offputting for something I'm not experiencing.

They tried that on me when I phoned them - I told them if they were fixing that issue for free I wasn't going to pay for mine, so they did it for free.

That's good to hear, seems surprising that they should be able to restrict the Warranty to a specific issue.

Another thing to use would be the Sale of Goods Act, I know a few people from other forums who have used it and got replacements well outside of warranty, think that has been mentioned on here anyway.
