I have Sony Bravia TV capable of 1080p resolution. I have connected my Xbox 360 to the TV using the VGA HD cable to the TV's PC input. I have then gone to the "settings" menu on the Xbox to try and set the console up to the highest resolution level (1080). However, the console will not let me do this and only allows me to set the 2nd highest resolution. I currently do not subscribe to Xbox live. Am I right in thinking that I need to subscribe to Xbox live to enable me to get an update for the console to allow me to have the highest possible HD setting to play my games on?
Thanks in anticipation of any help.

No it should update anyway on silver.
It might be the TV that is incapable of receiving a 1080p image over component. You'd have to dig in the technical specs for that.

So it only gives the option to set to 720 then is what your saying? Other than that i thought the games for the 360 only supported 720p for the originally 360 anyway so why is there a need up too 1080 unless you hooking up your PS3 through HDMI or something.
Almost every Sony Bravia TV can only accept 1080p over HDMI, this is a limitation imposed by Sony, I'd suggest digging out the manual and confirming this. However you're best bet if you really want 1080p (unless you are watching HD-DVDs through your TV I wouldn't be overly concerned) is to either purchase an XBox 360 Elite (out August 24th I think) or wait for the HDMI Premiums which are currently out in the US and I expect will filter through to our supply chain before Christmas.
