I think it is coming out sometime at the end of August

Edit: on Wikipedia it mentions that the official codemasters site has confirmed the date 29th August 2007

"On September 27, 2006, Codemasters announced a new version of Sensible World of Soccer for the Xbox 360 to be released in June/July 2007 on Xbox Live Arcade. The game will feature the classic 'retro' visuals of the original SWOS as well as support for 720p. The release date has now been confirmed on the official Codemasters site as being 29th August 2007."

It's due out the day I turn 23 (gutted), August 27th. Though looking at the calendar, surely the 29th is more logical, given it's a Wednesday? Either way, cannot wait.

Bad news i'm afraid, looks like it will be Super puzzle fighter II Turbo HD remix instead of SWOS tomorrow. Guess this has slipped to September or later.

well to bring this back around to SWOS... does anyone have a better release date than "sometime in the far and distant future"??

the last email I got from Codemasters was that it's still coming out and due for release but they weren't in a position to give a timescale.

I was wondering if anyone else had heard better rumours of an expected release date? is there a sweepstake going? if so, where can I send the cash?

Cormac
11-11-2007, 02:39 PM
You shouldn't really waste it on Sensible Soccer either. Arcade prices are far too high and if people keep buying them they'll never change it. I imagine their sales were poor for some games hence the temporary bargain basement prices on certain titles. Speaking of which did you notice that Lumines Live was reduced?

You will play Sensible Soccer for a week and then probably never touch it again.

neyo
11-11-2007, 09:08 PM
You say that Cormac, yet I beg the question JUST HOW MANY arcade games do you have? I do agree with you, though, but I hope Sensible Soccer will be an exception. It's probably as dear to me, as Bubble Bobble is to you mate...

Spindryer
11-11-2007, 09:28 PM
I've been very un-inpressed with the arcade games since the 360's launch, though Speed Ball has been an exception but at an overpriced coast to me.

2 things need to happen like Cormac touched on... 1 they need to be much, much cheaper and even free for the odd one. And 2 they need to being out better games that were huge on things like the SNES and Amiga.

SWOS will be one of the first game that might actually be worth its price tag.

It's been a long time coming but we have final word of the release of SWOS on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Codemasters has confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated game Sensible World of Soccer. It has been set for December 19th on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Sensible World of Soccer brings with it all the classic elements to a new generation of players. The game keeps all of the original touches that made it such a genre defining title, as well as introducing all-new optional enhancements to bring the game bang up to date. Sensible World of Soccer introduces players for the first time to all-new online multiplayer modes allowing players globally to take up the challenge and compete in intense online football matches in true Sensible Soccer style. The game also includes both original & updated custom graphics modes from the original designer of SWOS allowing players to experience the game in High Definition.

“We are extremely pleased to announce that SWOS is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade before Christmas”, comments Tim Hodges, Assistant Product Manager. Players are going to have a great holiday playing one of the best known and loved retro classics of all time. The wait has definitely been worthwhile, the online play is a blast and the game looks amazing and we are confident that players both new and old will feel the same way.”

About time.

Hmm, as an amiga veteran, it seems to play rather well, i think the long balls aren't as lon/high as they used to be. Bagged plenty goals outside the area but no 40 yarders yet.

It's a good game, they just need to fix the bug, allow you to edit original teams and gimme some bloody achievements. Beat the comp 10-0 and got squat, some of the other achievements have worked though, walked the russian league with Moscow Red (spartak).

As i said the long balls etc weren't going as high/long as i can remember (15 years it's been or summat like that, who knows?)

Anyhoo, I decided to give the d-pad a whirl instead of the stick. The balls flying around like friggin **** off a shovel now. Comin oot the sky with snow on i tell thee. Excellent. The d-pad is the way to go.

Trouble with SWOS or maybe the perk with SWOS is once you've found the score points the game becomes a 'Who can score 10 first' match. The score points have have changed from the Amiga version but I'm slowly finding where they are on the 360 version, and then its world domination!

I've played 5 ranked games, 2 of them were lagging so it was random, 1 the **** selected me as some nigerian team, the other I lost in the last minute. Autoaim FTW? Fair enough mate. :)

Spin - I know what you're saying mate, but despite that when you have better players playing against you this isn't generally the case. I can hammer lesser players quite easily; with a fairly varied selection of goals, but against better players I've had very low scoring games. It's not perfect, and there are 'some issues' with online, but despite that it's fairly true to the original. Look forward to have some games dude.

I dont remember the players losing control of the ball every time you change direction on the old version?

neyo
29-12-2007, 05:45 PM
Depends on the players ability dude. It was on the old version too, better players of have (c) in their attributes have control as one of their top 3 abilities. The actually game hasn't really changed offline at all, it's the same engine running atop of new graphics.

S = Speed
H = Header
T = Tackling
V = Shooting (Velocity)
P = Passing
F = Finishing (Shot power inside area)
C = Control (ball)

Take a look here, for example of how those attributes are applied to players, for Newcastle:

http://database.swos.info/display.php?country=ENGLAND&steam=NEWCASTLE%20UNITED&sorder=nof

See how Alan Shearer for example is top (15 is the highest) in everything except tackling and passing. Try running the ball with him, or shooting, and compare him, running with the ball with Les Ferdinand and you'll see the difference.

Chris, you're old, maybe this is too far in the past for you now?

They lose it as much as they used too, it's not really changed, bar the crappy unofficial names.

Of course if you compare it to modern games it can't stand shoulder to shoulder with em but it's still a good coversion of what used to be a gem of a game.

Lets be honest, most of whats on offer on the market place isn't worth wipin ya hoop on.

Only games i've not regretted buying are SWOS, worms and bomberman.
