Try taking it back to where you purchased it from - they will replace it and send the machine off to Microsoft themselves.

ill give it a try, if i find my receipt
A bank statement showing the purchase of the 360 will count in place of a receipt.

eh wtf. i went to argos (with reciept) - and said, look i got the ring of red lights and my console is basically bricked, and can i get a replacement.
But they said i couldn't and i had to phone some number for repairs.
i eventualyl thouhgt **** it, took the number and walked away. - phoned and now im waiting on the "free postage stickers" to come, and then its off to be fixed.
are they allowed to say i need to repair it, i want a replacement :( - gay.

They are allowed to "repair" it.

Go back in, and tell them that under the Sale of Goods Act they have the responsibility of repairing or replacing your console. Your sales contract is with them, not Microsoft, the warranty from MS is over and above your statutory rights.

I sent my xbox off a week ago and was told i'd have it back in "under a week".
I went into gamestation and had a stand off pretty much with a guy behind the counter, he was refusing to believe the sales act and told me to leave the store.

Nope it actually happend Friday night when I returned from my mates pre-wedding drink. Have now just turned it on again after a superb wedding and its still buggered. We're actually buying the groom a 360 n Forza2 for his wedding present! :D
Whats my plan of action? I believe its out of its 12mth warantee so do I return it the shop or to Microsoft?
Azure
08-07-2007, 01:33 PM
If you want something done fast thent ake it to the shop and do the sale of goods act on them - you'll need it printed out with pre-made letters explaining the situation written out to the store, store HQ and Dept of Trade and industry or trading standards whatever.
If you cant be arsed to go in there like an orangutang on heat and **** everyone you'll have to sit in a queue of about 50 bazillion people who will be undoubtedly sending in their 360s post 3 year warranty announcement.
I know precisely which one I would do.
They bought it off ms you bought it off them, you get new console of them they get new console off ms. That simple- but they will wiggle.
Renegade

I would do what Azure suggested. To the shop, make them fight with MS.
Still going strong my 360 - Forza 2 makes it freeze every 1 out of 100 races, but does for the rest of the people on the planet too. Still happy with mine :)

Wait until Halo 3 is released, buy the Legendary Edition, somehow force the helmet onto your head, and then go do it. You WILL walk out with a new 360 and probably most of the money in the till.

Just arming myself for the massacre n found this in Mooses original thread...
GD: "Do you have the power leads and video cable?"
Me: "No, I checked with M$ and because the power block shows a green light it is most certainly an issue with the 360 itself"
My power pack is currently showing an orange led. Could someone confirm whether or not it should be green or orange before I hit the shop please as I have a feeling it could be the power pack causing the problem.
edit: my bad...it turns green when you turn the 360 on. Release the hounds! :D

My wireless controller (bought separately) is also bollocks. It's suddenly decided that it doesn't like pairing on the same channel as my wireless headset.
Wi-Headset + Wired controller = Both Channel one.
Boot 360, turn on headset = channel one
boot 360, turn on headset, then turn on wireless controller = channel 2
turn on 360, controller then headset = channel 2.
Quite miffed actually.

Update...
Unfortunately the Battle of Little Cannock was lost today :(
Armed with his letter, copy of the Sales of Goods Act and an in depth knowledge of the 360, Super Sharp Shooter Konspiracy let loose in Currys. Knowing the pressure was on and his 360 was at deaths door, he strolled into chav central confident he could over turn the evil powers of the DSG staff!
The battle was going well until they realised the "12mth manufacturers guarantee" had expired and he was forced to whip out the sales of goods manifest...a topical "debate" ensued. The evil DSG stood their ground and having received the back up from numerous foreign assistants on the HQ hotline, they insisted that an independent engineers report for the specific dying piece of hardware should be submitted to DSG HQ and that no further action could be taken in store as it was "against company policy" and they were "not authorised" to do so as no returns procedure had been put in place for products outside of the standard 12mths. Even with the blatant evidence that this was a worldwide phenomenon, they couldnt be convinced that their poor custom service and low intelligence was the sign of the darkside.
The face of the ginger inflicted "store manager" was adamant but not a particularly pretty sight, so the brave soldier of misfortune packed up his kit and retreated to the safety of his transport. Not to be outdone quick fire phone calls were put in place to trading standards, however a formal complaint to DSG HQ was declined as their "customer service support system" was down...not for the first time today.
The almighty dollar in the sky is now the only way forward, but our mighty warrior is down heartened that it took 2 hrs to speak to more foreigners with little knowledge and bad English to get the ball rollin on what could take upto 20 days to be resolved.
Trading standards and DSG HQ will both be sent letters and receive numerous phone calls about this. DSG Retail may have won the battle but they havent won the war!!!

I love when they say policy - You dont give a **** what their policy is it is the damned ****ing LAW.
When my one pixel went on my PSP before I went in I said "I am not coming out of here with this PSP"
I had to stand there arguing for about 25 minutes whilst they rang HQ and HQ said no and all that bollocks. You just have to keep telling them it is the law it is faulty at the time of purchase and that they are in no way allowed to alter or affect your statuatory rights and the second they sold you that 360 they entered into a binding contract in regard to them.
No wiggle room at all, none, not a sausage.

I was there for a good hour arguing the toss. You kinda know when you're not getting anywhere when the best they can do is call for help...you argue with "help" and they cant speak english properly, then they get more "help" and even though this "help" can speak english, he is well educated to the facts of the SoGA but insists they require a full engineers report to be submitted to HQ before they are obliged to comply with SoGA.
They havent heard the last from me.

How old is your 360 Kon? Within 6 months its presumed faulty at time of purchase, and with a ?300 item it's not hard to say within 12 months it was faulty at purchase. Stand your ground with the store, if no joy speak to your local trading standards office, let them take your case.

A line I used to great effect was:
"OK, so you're telling me that your policy, dreamt up by some office jobsworth, superceeds the law as defined by this Government and enforced by Her Majesty's Courts?"
Cos that's what it comes down to - NOTHING they do / enforce replaces your rights as a consumer.
