View Full Version : Buy a DS?
Ok, so i've been travelling ages and I spend alot of time on the road, be it in a car, van or normally a bus, and I guess long flights too... Anyhow, I'm thinking about buying a DS, because i'd love to play a game again, and it'd be nice whilst i'm travelling. Do I bother? They're about 75 quid here in New Zealand, which isn't bad, is it?
I wish I hadn't sold my PSP to Matt (Zyber) now, I really miss it. Send it to me Matt?! Please?
Opinions would be appreciated. :)

Ha ha, no way i'm selling you my psp dude, love it to bits. I actually have both so i'm in a good position to advise you here. The psp, to me, is more of a multimedia device. Yea, the games are pretty good, more like a game you'd play on a console compared to the DS.
The DS doesn't have the same multimedia as the psp but it makes up for them in games. If you were a fan of the Snes and previous gen consoles like those, then you'll love the selection of games. Some intergrate the touch screen well, like Brain training, some you barely use it at all on, like the New Super Mario Bros.
For that price, i'd pick one up with New Super Mario Bros. and brain training. Well worth the purchase.

Brain training imo is wank.
I'd go for some actual games - raping dr kawashima and hearing him quip the same rhetorics everyday gets grating...

They're both pretty ****, PSP gives you insane wrist ache and hasnt got the best battery life in the world plus you need to worry about the beautiful screen getting raped...
DS has nasty response time on the screen and poor graphics engine.
In the end for me though putting porn onto the PSP and feature films was too fumbly so the colossal pick up and play GBA and DS software library won out for me.
I would point out though that I play neither now and the GF just bums this weird puzzle picross thing on it 24/7 so...
Neyo I can only advise getting a small camera and try and get girls to do horny things in front of it for cash up to the cumulative value of either system, I would wager you'd get more fun from it.

If your into football games i would definitely recommend a PSP and PES6.
Well, I bought a DS. I talked a couple of my room-mates, who are travelling New Zealand with me and we now have epic Mario Kart DS battles in Hotel lobbies, on the bus, damn good fun. The fact you can play from one game-card is sweet...
Already I'm having alot more fun than I did with the PSP. I do miss the PSP, but I definitely see the 'devide' between the two now...
Thanks for your comments, even yours Azure. ;)
I haven't seen 'Brain Training' out here, and I am assuming 'Big Brain Academy' is a different game altogether, is that avaliable in Europe? It says on the back, to be distributed in New Zealand and Australia... It's not bad, a nice game to play on the bus/plane/boat...

Yea, there are loads of games like that. They are available but i think brain training is a better game than brain academy. Still good though.

Mario Kart and NSMB by far the best games.
NSMB? I've played Mario Kart loads already, love it.

My GF just bought a DS with NSMB and SIMS 2, she seems happy enough with it, i think GameStation is still doing 1 of the best deals around for DS's if you haven't got it already.

Gotta warn you against Pokemon when it is released, Nintendo hasn't fixed or changed anything.
Still try Metriod Hunters (has 1 kart multi I believe)

So what about people that have never had the game before, like me?
I'm looking forward to when my import arrives.
If you're buying a DS I highly recommend Advance Wars Dual Strike (DS) I had played this for a while and it was great although really hard at times.

Anyone played the actual "Brain Training" games? I saw there's a new one released, but i've not played the first, having picked up "Big Brain Academy" instead. Are they any good, or rather has anyone played both "BBA" and "BT" and could compare?
Annoyingly the games down in Australisia are alot more expensive...
I played the first one for a bit and it was ok for about 10-20 mins of brain training a day.
Then when I got my brain age down to 20 (the minimum) I stopped playing completely. I know thats not the point but i kinda lost interest
Fair do's. Cheers, probably give it a miss then, unless it's DIRT cheap in Thailand...

I've played the first one and it does keep you entertained for quite a while. Loads of suduko's as well as a bunch of other mini games etc. If you like puzzles then you'll like that. Not too sure about all the spin offs though, some of them can be crap.
meh, go buy a psp already. :p
I liked Brain Training tbh not sure about the other types of similar games but it kept me interested for a bit, i'd once a day or what ever it is to keep my brain active if I had my DS still.
