Pes Cup

Well we've got the league on the go at the moment and alongside I'd like to have a cup competition that runs over a week (ish). All teams randomized, no duplicates. 32 participants (with league players having priority).

The question is, would you like me to run this as a MB360 & Pesrankings event, or just a easy going MB360 event.. or just not at all ;).

Let's get back to good football: club only, random condition and let the events staff pick from a pool of 32 teams in hat to determine who gets whom.

The thing with Pesrankings is it generates fixtures for you etc. It does help a lot, but true I don't want to risk my ranking playing some people that are like 2000000000th :P

It'd easily be done with a week with myself running it. 32 teams > 16 teams > 8 teams > 4 teams > Final. We could do two rounds in one night, two rounds in another, final in another.

Inter will not be included whatever happens. :p

Take out the top 5 from each league (or top 3, if there are only 3 clearly better teams), and randomise the rest. That way we all get sort of equal teams, but nobody is going to be severely disadvantaged.

So, take out Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, and the rest of the teams have much less of a gulf.

I removed Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool from the premiership. Then I chose teams at a similar skill level to Tottenham. And obviously we may not get 32 entrants, so I'll deal with what I get when I get it. May open registration tonight.

Fair enough, just a pointer - Spurs and Newcastle are WAY better than Liverpool. At least IMO, Liverpool are seriously watered down since PES5.

Getting pretty pissed off with Konami though. Tried 15-16 games on Saturday night, and every single one cut off after less than 30 minutes of the game. It's seriously hampering my practise.

I think you should just keep it to mb360 after all the pes rankings seems like too much work for some people. 20 sounds like a good figure although you don't want to disappoint committed regulars and those who'll make the effort to play their games.
I need some normal games to relieve the stress of getting beat by Brazil, Inter or Barca :)

Fair enough, again depends on how many enter as you end up in the same boat.

Just a suggestion - it may be worth sending a mail to the regulars who have taken part in the previious MB360 PES Tourney's as I have only just seen this and with the small number of people to post in just over a month, imagine I'm not the only one to have missed this.

Yeah I'm certain some people would have missed it. The time is running out for me to take part - I finish in Wales on the 13th and have no idea if I will have internet access in the house I move in to, so the sooner this kicks off the better, unless people are willing to wait until August ish.

Doesnt really matter how teams are drawn but would be good to do this using the automated PES Rankings system still as it saves us a load of unnecessary ballache with creating fixtures, collecting results, updating the tournament. etc;

Just remember Kon, it isn't a league, so fixtures and rounds are really easy to set up because each player would have a number that is decided in my team selection.

Kon, if you, right now, were to decide in whatever way you want that team 1 plays team 7, team 2 plays team 18, etc etc until all the numbers are used at random, that makes fixtures random too. So everyone has 1-32 as their number, you already know which number will play which number (but we don't), and we then send our random lists of teams and players to you. That way, teams, fixtures and players are random. In about 5 minutes work. Job done.

Example:

Say we have 4 players:

RenegadeDS
Konspiracy
Bluehoopedmoose
Gaskin

And four teams:

Chelsea
Man United
Arsenal
Liverpool

Kon decides (privately) that the fixtures are:

1 v 3
2 v 4

I decide (privately) that the teams are:

United
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal

Moose decides (privately) that the players are:

1. Kon
2. Renegade
3. Moose
4. Gaskin

So we have the fixtures:

1. Konspiracy (United) vs 3. Moose (Chelsea)
2. Renegade (Liverpool) vs 4. Gaskin (Arsenal)

There we go, random teams and fixtures.




Let's not forget that the last competition based solely on Matchbox reached a conclusion. Whereas the one on PESRankings didn't. I just think we have a trusted community on this site, and can keep a nice fun tournament going for the people on here. It doesn't need PESRankings to be organised well.

I get up to this, brilliant! For this small event I'm not going to be using Pesrankings, this is for one simple fact, I like doing it manually. Yep, I'm weird like that. Obviously no offense to those of pesrankings or Barr2k, but this pes cup will not use the Pesrankings system.

Although Renegade your idea of 3 different people doing selections is very good, it also complicates things. Instead, I'll do all of the fixtures and teams etc myself with a randomizer on the internet or with a hat etc. (or I'll do it with you if you are really paranoid)

Well however you do it, that's fine - just saying it's quick and easy and completely random. If your way is random, that's totally fine, no problems.

Like I said it all depends on when the tourney takes place, after the night of the 12th I may be unavailable for a while, or I might not. I don't know yet, but I don't want to let people down.

Just from past experience, 32 man tournaments usually take longer than you think - not everyone is available for the date/time their fixtures are set for.

I also think it will be quicker to do it without PR - because they have to sign up on PR as well as here, and then all results entered there and here, etc etc.

Does there have to be a portal on Matchbox anyway? Can't we just get a list of people who will take part in here, and then play it in here considering it's just for fun?

@ Renegade - no need to tell me how to run a PES tournament mate or how to pick random fixtures...I've only been doing it for about 3 years on MatchBox360 with no major problems so far! :p :D

I hate to repeat myself but the only real reason why the PR league hasnt/didnt finish was purely due to the overwhelming mountain of fixtures that each player was expected to play and so I will take responsibility for that as I should have ensured it was split down into smaller divisions with a realistic amount of fixtures per player. I would like to emphasise that this was NOT due to players new to MatchBox360 taking part as the majority of ppl signed up are long standing members of this forum community.

With regards to this comp, I would recommend a player of 32 and a portal otherwise it will turn into a farce.
