As discussed with a few of the players involved with this game, this was a very disappointing way to end an enjoyable tournament as it was quite simply a lag fest with random grenades appearing from nowhere, players "jumping" around the map Halo2 lag style, and the whole "shooting blanks" scenario...well that was my experience anyway before I finally lagged out!

IMO this game was unplayable and I personally believe it should be replayed with a better host. To be fair, this game and the semi-final were 2 of the laggiest games I have ever experienced on RB6. It is quite obvious that the connections are not suitable for dedicated server as none of this was evident in any of the earlier rounds where dedicated servers were not used.

I would like to gain the opinions of the players involved whether they would like a rematch with round robin over 3 maps and non-dedicated hosts. If the overall opinion of the finalists is that the result should stand then I'm happy for that to happen. I will contact you all via email in due course.

Thanks to Sub for taking the time to host the games.

well there was only 1 minute of lag u can see in the vid. i dont think it was as bad as u was saying. throughout the semi final there was constant lag but in the final it wasnt too bad there was a lag spurt and i think that if it is replayed again it would be dissapointing as i clearly won by 8 kills and every had the same experience, also if it would be replayed i wont be taking part as i think this is out of order

good luck with you decision neway

To be fair, it is a bit bad that 2 people lagged out, and for that reason it should be replayed. But to be honest i doubt it will be as there will never be a unanimous decision. And during that minute of lag frenzy i managed to commit suicide and die a few times, i may have got second if it wernt for that :(

If only you could see what I had to put up with mate! If you have to pump a whole clip into someones head only for them to jump to one side then kill you then you know theres something not quite right with the game! The number of times I had 1v1s with Teaanyone when he was looking the opposite direction or even standing still with the result being that I died was beyond a joke. The fact that before I lagged out I was 10-17 (or something like that) tells a story in itself. For me this was far worse than the semi-final.

I obviously understand your objections as you won the final in what you feel was a fair game, but I assure you that it wasnt...whether that be due to mine or other ppls connections to the host is open for debate.

These things happen and are to be expected to some degree with online games but I doubt we'll use dedicated servers again in the future as from my experience it creates more problems than a standard hosted lobby. From my perspective as a player in the final it was unplayable, but from my perspective as the tournament organiser I fully understand your position...but I think everyone involved will agree that it sucks that such a good tournament with some very highly skilled players should end like this.

At the end of the day...congratulations to Southside NME for winning the MatchBox360 Rainbow 6 Vegas Sharpshooter tournament!

I'm still tryin to get some prizes confirmed and will get them sent out to you asap if you could PM me your address. ;)

Sorry to here about your laggy host in the final lads.

I was host for semi-finals
No offense Tempus but i thought your host was awful when i played on it in the Round 2 LB - it was so sticky and wasn't smooth for me at all, when i shot people in the head it did nothing but spray imaginary blood. There was only 6 people in the game and i was playing on a 6meg down and 400 up connection - which nobody but myself was using. Im not making excuses just stating what happened to me and tbh i wasn't really bothered about this tournament after i played the H3 beta.

tbh i think MB needs to find people with good upload speeds and have them report their *offical* upload speeds in a thread before the tournament to work out who is the dedicated host. I mean someone could say they have BT's 8 meg broadband. Which does actually mean UPTO 8 meg (download) broadband, so if their exchange can only handle 1 meg (download) their upload will usually be around 250-280kbps and because of them saying they have 8 meg broadband their given host (because of their apparently good connection). I think thats pretty unfair to the other people in the game as they have to play on a to be quite frank a **** host for their game. Sure the connection bar might be green but ive started a 15 player lobby on Vegas on my 250kb upload and everyone have green bar, i think thats slightly **** the way the rules are set out to cover that tbh.

I also think each game should have a dedicated host no matter what round it is, giving one player host *doesn't matter if their **** or not* turns them into a tank especially if their internet connection is firewalled (Increasing the amount of ms of advantage they have against other players) obviously its hard to check that, but checking peoples *Official* upload speeds before a tournament would make sense wouldn't it?

Below is a speedtest.net image which i think each user should post in a separate thread before a tournament to determine the good hosts from the bad. I think the selected destination for everyones speedtest should be London as it seems pretty fair to everyone.

and yes this is my speedtest i now have 2 separate broadband connections to my house to increase my bandwith.

Some interesting and logical views their Bonzo...even though it is completely impractical to expect dedicated servers on each game. I think Tempus and Sub have similar connections but only they could say what their exchange is capable of. I also have to question whether its a fault with the ppls connections or the game code itself.

Anyways, heres my speed test on which I received no complaints as host or as dedicated host:

Those speedtest.net things are incredibly inaccurate FYI. The internet has far more accurate versions of a similar program.

Shame your tourny was ruined guys :(

I wouldnt say it was "ruined"...in fact, I would say its been one of the most enjoyable tournaments in the history of MatchBox360 and I would like to thank every player that has taken part. Its just a shame that it ended like this as the final should have been talked about for the amazing gameplay rather than the unbelievable lag! :D

Not something I'm going to take offence by mate, I know my connection isn't the fastest and being on cable the upload speeds aren't the best. I have always said in the lobby if anyone has any issues then I am happy to change host (this happened in one of the rounds).

At the end of the day my connection suites me for work, internet and casual gaming.

Its our own fault if we didn't say anything after the lag test, if the match has been played theres nothing we can do everyone agreed to the Host

KONSPIRACY

Exactly. I did raise the issue to Sub before the final started as there was the craziest lag during the last 30 seconds of the test, but apparently this was due to him turning his pc off to free up more resources. These things happen I'm afraid...hopefully we'll have a rematch at XL! :D
