Well I dont know how many of you are still right up to date with heroes, but the season finale was aired in the U.S last night and I have just watched it over on Dailymotion.
This is the episode that the whole series has been building up to and so without giving away anything at all, here are my thoughts. Obviously this contains HUGE spoilers so if you havnt seen the episode yet then really dont read it... No honestly, dont.
Well for me it was a bit of a complete let down. It had its moments of a good finale but really it just had too many things that just didnt add up, or make for a good end of season episode.
I am gonna start first with the negatives for me. Now to be honest I just dont know where to start. The season had been building the bomb moment as a great moment, and it just didnt really happen. For a start, correct me if I am wrong but throughout the series that moment has been in the middle of a highstreet with heroes running in from everywhere to stop the bomb, in the middle of the day! Now i know that with the whole 'save the cheerleader, save the world' thing the future was changed but surely from a simply good writing point of veiw it should have still ended with the same moment?
Peter and Sylar never really did face off, but with Sylar's telecanesis he always seemed to have the upper hand. Which brings me to.. WHY THE HELL DIDNT PETER ABSORB SYLARS POWERS? I dont understand. He doesnt ever seem to absorb Hiro's time travelling either.
Ok. So, the final scene is a decent one all the same. All the heroes coming together and all kind-of collaborating to stop Sylar. Now I can understand that the writers didnt want this to be a cheesy super-hero stoyline ending where the crime fighting team all come together and use their own abilities to all be more powerful etc. But some of them didnt do anything! and were just there for being there sake.
Ok so anyway, after Sylar has been stabbed by Hiro, Peter's nuclear powers are going out of control and he is going to explode.. If he had absorbed Hiro's power he could have just teleported to some other time or place with no-one around, but even without that, the appearance of Nathan is again just complete oid and unecessary. Peter has alreay absorbed his power and could have just flown away himself! The only reason for Nathan doing that was to show that he has changed into a good character before his (i assume) death.
After all of that, it looks as if (although I was watching on a dark screen, but I am still pretty sure) that Sylar is still alive? The blood down the man hole looks as if he has dragged himself down there whilst everyone was looking at the explosion. Now I cant decide about this ending for the main reason that the whole episode was building up to him being killed, so if that didnt even happen then what did!? However It is good for the next series and does bring me to the positives of the finale.
Sylar is still alive. Cliffhanger. Fairly good plot line for a finale I guess. Thats kind of a positive in my mind.
The real question that the episode left us though was who is this 'other guy' that Molly cannot think about otherwise he can see her. She says he is 'much worse' than sylar. Now that my friends is a GOOD line in a finale. I am intrigued by this.. lol.
I did also like the line from sylar where he claims to infact be the hero. Good writing there, that can go into my positives list. The role reversal of it almost being like Sylar is the one trying to save the world not Peter.
I personally dont think that the future that we saw a few episodes back has been changed at all character wise. Nathan was already dead, Sylar was still alive. Peter had the scar down his face so had obviously exploded. The only exception being that Clare is still alive. And the obvious big one that currently the city is still fine. These things not changing could lead to a good opportunity to develop the characters towards the future that we saw in the second series.
Last point though.. What the hell was that last part with Hiro about? That was rubbish! For the end of a normal episode that would have been fine. But for the end of a season finale it just didnt really provide anything. I guess it is supposed to show that the 'hero' gene has been around for a number of generations etc, and will probably show that Hiro is infact related to that 'kensei' guy. All in all though a bit of a lame teaser for the next series.
Anyway. My thoughts over, anyone else seen it yet?
