Oh dear. :-P
They really shouldn't have bothered making that advert!

I'd love to see them roll just a regular old Xbox 360 advert then at the end play a short "also available in black with 120gb hdd and hdmi!" clip.

Like how breakfast cereal adverts stick a "now in chocolate flavour!" or "plus a free spinny whizzer toy in special packs for a limited time only!" at the end...

I think it would be more appropriate.

. . . I still want an Elite 360, though.

"Massive" 120 gig hard drive eh?

Yawn.

Anyone know when these make it to the UK?

They've been out in the states since April.

"Late Summer" is the closest they've come to an actual date. :-(

Well, I have heard that the Elite will probably be launched here in the UK around September time.

This will - by pure coincidence - mean it arrives at the same time as Halo 3.

Putting 2 & 2 together it is therefore expected that there will be a massive launch in Sep with bundles available to include Halo 3.

A good way to ensure sales no????

LMAO

I was thinking a similar thing....

What do you call one of these (http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/menuitem.8027a91c954924ae4bda9f30eac4f0a0/) then, if that's massive?

Sure the iPod has 75% of that space and thats a portable device for Music and Video...Not an Home Entertainment Device like the Xbox 360.

:P

Obviously its another simple marketing technique from M$. In terms of a HDD for a console it is "massive", and seeing as this is being pitched as an upgrade and direct competition for the PS3, the only thing that matters for M$ is that it is twice the size as its competitors who were previously making an issue of their 60gb being 3 times bigger than the premium 360.

Its al swings n roundabouts and just a simple case of "whos got the biggest HDD"...expect a HDD upgrade for PS3 soon! :D

Yea but the obvious benefit the Playstation 3 has is that, the Hard Drive in that is upgradeable. I mean in reality Playstation have already delivered here, a Massive 120Gb Hard Drive is not as massive as I suspect some people are sticking in their PS3.

Plus with the opportunity to run Linux (I'm sure that will expand to other OS's via Hack Probably) then the Playstation 3 is looking more attractive then any shinny elite will ever do.

I mean the people that Xbox are trying to attract here, will be more interested in a Playstation 3 with a built in High Definition Player. Now I know Microsoft aren't trying to force anything on anyone...But if you are going Elite then go the whole Hog and slam everything in there including a HD-DVD Player, hell even add a twist to it, that it's upgradable to Blu-Ray (in case it wins).

They need to up the ante if they want that kind of consumer not some gimmick and that's all it is.

Exactly. It is all a gimmick n simple marketing.

I didnt realise though that you could upgrade your PS3 HDD like that...can you use any off the shelf HDDs or are there any restrictions?

TBH I dont understand the need for a large HDD unless you're sad enough to download all the crap from the dashboard or transfer films/music onto your console. I'm pretty old skool n believe in seperates as they do a far better job at doing specific tasks n you dont end up gettin screwed over if your "media centre" goes tits up (ie I dont want a phone that plays mp3, games, gps, etc;...I just want it to make calls n texts; similarly I just want my console to do its job n play games).

I agree on the keeping things separate but I mean they obviously don't so if your going to do it, do it right.

As for the limitations, there is none. You just buy a 2.5" SATA II Hard Drive and let the Playstation Format it, it does the usual taking a bit off your actual space for System Usage but it offers the flexibility that Microsoft doesn't and if you add up everything is a relatively good deal.

Granted I'm not saying go out and Buy a PS3 as alot of the features such as 60Gb, Wi-Fi, Card Reader, Running Linux (well maybe they might come up with some Gaming aspect use) are useless to me.

That's why it's a shame we didn't see the 20Gb launch here, as I could of seen it taking off better, as most people seem to think the PS3 is over packaged.
