Bungie releases OFFICIAL Halo 3 Beta Video

"The day has finally come. No more massive leakage, no more jerky camera videos, because Bungie has officially lifted the veil on the Halo 3 beta by offering up a video of their own. Over on Bungie.net (and kindly embedded above) is nearly four minutes of Halo 3 beta action. It's complete with lasers, shooting, explosions, jumping, equipment items and is a sight to behold. But there is a point to their little video other than just showing off beta in all its glory. The video is also meant to feature Microsoft employee MrJukes (who has the prestigious honor of logging the most Halo 3 alpha/beta games to date) and all his Halo talent. And so, if you're interested in more than the video, Bungie.net posted a little interview with MrJukes after the jump. But back to the official video. Did we mention that the entire video was created using Halo 3's saved game feature? Oh, did we mention that seeing a Mongoose fly 20 feet in the air over the main entrance simply by driving over a portable gravity lift made us wet ourselves? We didn't? Well, yeah ... it's that good."

The only thing that made me even slightly impressed was the ATV using the lift to jump over the gate. Otherwise very underwhelming.

I know this is going to start another argument about sequels and stuff, but tbh I think it looks very much like halo2. Graphics look nothing to amazing, gameplay looks the same, as I said the only thing that i like was the grav lift, because that was different.
And yes I know it's only a beta and things will change, but as it stands I am yet to be impressed.

Well... it is another Halo game so yes, you are going to see a lot of similarities between this and Halo 2! :-D

Yeah, while the graphics are better, I agree there isn't an enormous improvement on Halo 2. However, it'll probably seem ten times better on a 360 on a HD TV in front of you, compared to what we've seen so far...

How can you say gameplay looks the same, though?!
Sure, it's an FPS, with cyborgs running about shooting each other. That was never going to change. But to me, it looks a lot more smooth and fast-paced, and the environments look great fun to play in.

Having said that; after seeing the video, I am actually less upset about not being in the beta! It looks very enjoyable to play and I will do so if I get a chance, but, it didn't leave me with an "I MUST HAVE THIS GAME RIGHT NOW" feeling.

Maybe it was because it showed too much Spartan Laser action, and not enough good ol' fashioned "Assault Rifle + Smack 'em in the face" action that I love so much in Halo 1... *-)

The way I look at it is this: I played Halo 2 shed loads. I know of people who played it a darn site more than me, and are still playing it a lot right now. If Halo 3 improves on that, irons out the flaws and makes it more fun to play... well, how can you not be a tad excited about that?

The way I look at it is this: I played Halo 2 shed loads. I know of people who played it a darn site more than me, and are still playing it a lot right now. If Halo 3 improves on that, irons out the flaws and makes it more fun to play... well, how can you not be a tad excited about that?

For the fairly obvious [I thought] reason that as a console fps goes halo 2 has very little in the way of flaws, thus leaving Bungie with practically **** all to do in terms of gameplay tweaks. So I expected more on the graphical side of things, no I am not a graphics whore, its why I am still choosing a PS2 over the 360, but when halo 3 is actually just halo 2 with new weapons [as we all agreed on this didnt we?] why arent the graphics more polished than that? Beta or not.

You could even say Halo 3 is just Halo CE with a few new features. I'm mean its gone back to and has used some of the old weapons from CE. I would of loved a more advance look in graphics but the truth is like Moose said if they can iron even just some of the snags from Halo2 then Halo3 will be a game i play a heck of a lot and will enjoy. + They still haven't finished making it so maybe we could see improved graphics to a lager extent on the final version?

We have seen a low rez video of it, and I still thought the graphics looks amazing. Plus, in terms of gameplay, all we have seen is the multiplayer, no campaign.

I can't wait, it looks stunning in my opinion.

Well I finish school next wednesday half way through the day (zomg I'm finishing school) and then my first exam isn't for another 2 weeks after that. I want the beta now! Why couldn't they release it all on the same day. *shakes fist at bungie*

Oh is it just me that thinks the BR now looks as if an elite is holding it, even though it's a spartan? And did it say Killjoy?

As for the graphics - well, as someone said - have we seen any high-def stuff yet? Anyone know?

Quite a lot are already playing the Beta now, in the Friends & Family thing.
There's way too much stuff to summarize here, though...
