Just a friendly reminder that the feature rich Spring dashboard update is coming sometime this week. As promised, the update will be going live during the week (this May 7th), but any other details are a little sketchy. The Xbox Live team may release it sometime today, tomorrow, or even Friday ...

I don't know why everyone is getting so excited or "hot and bothered" and like BlueHoopedMoose said it's coming during the Week of 7th May, I expect it will come Mid Week at 12 Midday GMT. There's my little thought for the day and no I don't think alot :p

Dashboard update isn't happening today apparently
Quoted from Major Nelson
May '07 Update News

I just heard from the Dashboard team that we'll have to wait at least another day for the Dashboard update to be released. The update is not being released in the next 24-hours. That is all I know at this time, but I?ll get more information tomorrow afternoon (PT) and I will update this post as needed. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Edit: As has been pointed out by some community members, the official press release does say the ?week of May 7th? for a release time. So we?re well within that so far. It sounds like some folks missed that part, so that?s why I wanted to post this update.

only thing i hate is it brings up all your contacts, id rather it bring up just those who have live

and it signs you out of msn on your pc, really gay

It's basics tho' - you can't be signed on in more than one place. Makes perfect sense to me!

how do you find what your tvs screens reference level is?

The update is a complete pile of wank for me anyways
I have a email address which i created with my GT ***Editied Out*** I don't have access to my hotmail inbox and cannot change my screen name on IM though that account, apparently i have to verify i own that email address before i have access to those functions. So i bet your thinking why don't you just verify it? *Because they send the verification code to me in an email through to that very email address which can't access my hotmail*
*IM PISSED!*

What was actually the point of linking msn to the Xbl account? I mean come on, seriously?

In the last hour that I've been signed in to msn I've had many people sign in repeatedly, assumingly when they switch from the PC to the 360 and vice versa. It's silly.

Satus messages aren't displayed any more, instead it shows what they're playing. I don't care what people are playing, if I would I would switch on my 360, ask them on msn or go to xbox.com?

Am I completely missing the point in all of this?

All I know is that it slows down the 360 to the point of freezing n its a pain in the arse receiving msn messages all the time when you're trying to play a game. Complete waste of time n I wont be using msn at all tbh unless its an emergency (may come in handy when doing online events though).

i think i'd only use this when someone else is on my pc.

Plus my mac keyboard works fine on it so thats good at least.

Lets face it, its not going to replace the pc msn is it. its just there for times like you say joda when u cant get on your pc etc, its a feature thats there if you need it.

Exactly - also for those people who may noy have a computer!

@Cat: I can see what you're saying but look at it from a development stand-point... you have an online gaming service which uses .NET passport for authentication, and a chat client which uses the same. Makes sense to try to tie them together.

As for people signing in and out - well, personally if I'm playing Xbox, I'm playing Xbox - not chatting on MSN. Vice versa applies too. Besides, running MSN on the same network as trying to play Live is asking for lag and trouble!

Yeah good points n it does have its uses...but I do recommend not using it whilst trying to play on RB6 unless you like your console freezing as your about to shoot someone or you particularly like the message indictator flashing every 5 seconds (obviously that could be turned off in preferences). It would be harmless though if your just chilling out playing single player games like oblivion, campaign missions, etc;

I think its a pretty neat idea. Its handy as hell, the majority of my time spent on MSN is looking for clan matches, now i can just look on xbox live. I don't know why everyone is moaning about it, its integration of systems, which in the long run is it not what we have all been wanting? I give m$ thumbs up for at least trying to improve something.

The only problem I have with it is that teh msn function pretty much freezes my console n its taken over like some kind of virus ala aol. Hopefully I can stop it from signing in automatically which makes the signing in process take about 3 minutes rather than 3 seconds.

Yeah that is a pain, but i bet we will see another update for that very soon.
