Tryed installing it and it took ages only to say at the end that it couldnt validate my 360. Then it said i could maually validate it by going on Start>Control Panel (Thanks a lot microsoft that helps so much) could anyone expand on what little knowledge this provides?

You don't need it. I assume you just want it to stream music, right?
Well, I don't have media center and Media connect and just use this:
Step 1 Download Windows Media Player.
Step 2 Launch Windows Media Player
a.At the Windows XP-based PC, launch Windows Media Player. Select Start, Windows Media Player.
Step 3 Turn on media sharing.
a.Click the arrow below the Library tab, and then click Media Sharing.
b.In the Media Sharing dialog box, select the Share my media to check box.
c.In the list of devices below the Share my media to check box, select your Xbox 360.
d.click Allow
e. click OK
Step 4 Configure your Xbox 360
At the Xbox 360
a. In the Media section, select Music, Picture or Photos.
b. Select Computer, and then press the A button.
c. Select YES, Continue, and then press the A button.
d. Select your Windows XP-based PC, and then press the A button.

This works 100%, however you might have to reboot your 360 a few times.

It's not router dependant. All it does is enabling your PC to share your information. If your PC/360 are on the same network, I don't see why it shouldn't.
Oh and that router is crap. I'm glad we haven't got that any more.

As far as I know, you won't be able to stream MPEG 1,2, or 4 movies to your 360. I haven't had any luck with this. Am I missing something?

yes cat's right all you have to do is download 'windows media player 11'the media connect software does not work anymore...when you get player 11 got to load it up click on the drop down bar under libary click on media sharing and you will see your xbox360 click allow and next time you are on your xbox you will be able to stream music and photos to get video you have to have it saved in media player 11 i belive..ps if you have media centre when you start up your computer you will get new xbox 360 found click to connect you can do this if you want to use the media center on xbox 360..personally it is crap as you cant play games while u are in it

Yay it's working :D thanks Cat. Just wondering is there any way to stream music while your PC s off, that's the only thing that bugs me about streaming it, my PC is downstairs you see so i can only stream when someone else decides they wanna use the PC.

Nope, the PC has to be switched on, otherwise the 360 can't access the content.

Will this work even if my PC is connected wirelessly? My PC is wireless, my 360 isn't.
