Wow thats a way to get people to buy them, remake hang em high.
i thought i read somewhere that the release of the new maps will be on xbox 360 only, to get people to buy the 360.
also i read somewhere that halo 3 beta would be at the same time as the new maps ?

Not Bad you say!
They are plugging even more money out of a 2 and a half year old game.
It is a joke that people are going to have to cough up for new maps when they should be giving them away to get the users back not charge them so they can wipe their arses with $100 notes.

Now that's just taking the piss. Games like Counter-Strike let you download the new maps for free. And i should think so too.

Hang Em High ftw! I used to love that map.
Will I pay money for it? I don't think so....

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today confirmed the upcoming release of two new, eagerly awaited downloadable maps for ?Halo? 2.? The maps will be available as premium downloadable content for Xbox? and Xbox 360? on April 17.
Fans of the original ?Halo? have long requested the addition of some of their favorite maps to the critically acclaimed multiplayer experience of ?Halo 2.? These re-creations, developed by Bungie and Certain Affinity Inc., are a perfect way to thank fans for their support as they surpass 800 million hours of ?Halo 2? gaming on Xbox LIVE?.
Makes me laugh.
"Thanks for spending so much time on our game why not let us sqeeze a few more quid from your pockets to pay for our crack addictions"
I say crack addiction because it is the only feasible reason behind charging for maps that most people already have on halo:ce.
I have some spare MS points so i'll get them and post what they're like when they're released.

Nope, won't work:
It's an original Xbox download, so there's no way to use MS points - and you WILL need an Xbox Live Gold account to download and play, since the original Xbox (even in BC mode) can't tell the difference between gold and silver. But you CAN use these on 360, just so we're clear. You just need to use a credit card for the purchase, instead of marketplace points.

I think these maps have been announced so people dont get pissed off waiting for the Beta. I think the Beta is gonna be like another month.

These maps will proberly become free a couple of months after they get released, just like what they did with the other map packs.

its $4 though, its hardly anything, and most of it goes to the new division of bungie probally

I distinctly remember Bungie saying that Hang Em High would never be recreated as it wouldnt be a balanced map for Halo2 with the new weapons. Obviously a ploy to get ppl to buy the new maps as every Halo fan was gutted when it wasnt included on Halo2...well I was anyway! :D

me too, and sidewinder, now that would have been a good map for halo2.

It's unreasonable that they are charging people, and a very weak attempt to kick some life back into Halo2.
But having said that, as much as my morals tell me not to, I know I will be buying them. And I would bet lots of money that many many people will do the same. So I guess the method has worked.
KH Torrance
31-03-2007, 08:31 PM
Why should the maps be free of charge?
The guys at Certain Affinity didn't create these maps for the good of their health.
"So I guess the method has worked"
"The method" ... ? Like, um, commerce? Transactions (sales and purchases) having the objective of supplying commodities (goods and services).
That's a clever method... maybe it will catch on someday. ;-)
So many of you act like there's a big conspiracy against us Xbox gamers!
A product has been created, and you are being given the choice of purchasing it.
That is all.

No what I'm trying to get at is the fatc they feed us all this **** saying how they are giving something back to us as a community for all our dedication, then charging us $4.
Fair enough sell us products, thats the industry, but don't insult our intelligence by trying to mask it will all that happily ever after bull.
The method I was on about was to do with them trying to keep people interested in an otherwise dead game by bringing out new content (fair enough), but then charging us!
But fair play to them, it works.

Do you honestly think the money you pay will go straight into the pockets of the guys who slaved for weeks to make those nice shiny new maps?
And I'm not starting arguments here btw lol, I'm congratulating these people on taking advantage of the inevitable need for the 'new thing' that all humans have.

What makes them deserve money for revamping Halo 1 maps?
Im sure bungie could have found some modders that would have done that for free.
KH Torrance
31-03-2007, 10:33 PM
Bungie should have just given their development tools to a group of modders, on the promise that they'll make an awesome map? And be responsible for all the documentation and bug-fixing after the release? For free? :-| Sure, why not!
Makes no difference that the maps are Halo 1 remakes. Hang 'Em High is a 'fan favourite'. Many people would prefer HEH to a new map, anyway.
Like Frankie said. It's not exactly a quick "Save as..." job. The maps had to be built from the ground up, which is still work, which still deserves to be paid.
. . . To everyone: If the maps aren't worth $4 to you, just don't buy them!
None of you *have* to cough up for the new maps.
So, anyway...
They say Desolation is catering for the MLG scence. Another 'arena', basically. Kind of annoying, because I think it'll play too similar to Warlock, which I'm not a fan of. But we shall have to wait and see!
Tombstone should be fun though, because I always enjoyed Hang 'Em High, whatever the gametype. Since I probably won't play the Halo 3 beta, I'll enjoy *any* new Halo 2 content!
Yes, their method definitely worked. :-)

I cant believe some of you are complaining about having to pay for these maps.
1. They cost about 2 quid.
2. Bungie arent forcing you to buy them. Theyre even trying to change the MM playlists so people without the maps can still play then.
3. If you are considering buying these maps, you have been playing Halo 2 (even if on and off) for the best part of 3 years now, and youre complaining about having to spend 2 quid on it?
I was never expecting these maps to be free. Im just happy theyre so cheap.
You all have 360s and buy arcade games on the marketplace, yet you feel as though youre being ripped off by Bungie and Halo 2? Ill get 100 times more play time out of these 2 quid maps than I will out of the 20 pounds or whatever the **** Ive spent on all the shitty 360 arcade games.

Desolation - Not too sure if I like it, but then again I still get lost on it, so....

Desolation - Don't really like it tbh.

I think Desolation is ok for team slayer with battle rifles as default starting weapons with no oversheild (i think they spoil the map tbh). I think Tombstone is not that bad with a small party, but with a large party there aren't enough respawns and you end up respawning in the same place over and over again. Im sure i'll grow to like them though. Glad it has brought most of the Halo 2 community back, i know im staying :)

18-04-2007, 12:49 AM
Couldve been so much better.
Tombstone is ok. Pretty big and open but its quite fun to play. TS, CTF and Snipes all work decent on this map.
Derelict is way too big and open. If it was about the size of Midship then I think it would be a really good map. Pretty much any gametype works on it, but they just arent as good as they could have been.
Both maps give host too much of an advantage.
Gaskin
18-04-2007, 12:34 PM
lol I like the way you said tombstone instead of Hang Em High but Direlict instead of Desolation.
Hang Em High is now the best map on the game, easily. It was always the best map on Halo 1 and it's just such a brilliant map. It does have a lot of host advantage yes, but on a LAN it would be sick.
Simm0ns
18-04-2007, 01:58 PM
Yeah I get mixed up saying Derelict and Desolation alot. People wont know what Im onabout half the time.
I like Tombstone, even on Live. CTF, TS and Snipes are all fun to play on it. I think theyve captured the feel of HeH too which is good.

The game has been modified so the H2 magnum pistol uses the old H1 pistol skin found in Tombstone, but the images themselves are genuine.
Some very annoying glitches in that map, though! I was sure my shots weren't registering in certain places when we played the snipers game on Tombstone. Now I know it wasn't just my imagination!

Not worth two pounds?! Seriously? I mean, what else can you buy in this country for 2 quid at the moment? Not much... I think a pound a map is great value!
And still I can't download these maps because Microsoft don't think about things before they do them.

i thought 2 squids for the maps was a pretty good deal, too. either a quid for a map, or a quid for 4 bensons? easy choice.
interestingly, i logged into bungie.net on monday at aboot 10ish, and there were 6500ish players online in halo2, this morning at the same time, it was 65000ish online.

It's just a Visa debit card, as oppose to a Visa credit card, kinda like the betamax of the debit card world since less places accept them - Switch/Solo/Maestro being the other card..

Most places accept Visa Electron when it comes to online services, i know Xboxlive does as i used my parents card for it, its mostly international purchases where it falls short.
Me, im stuck with a maestro as i cannot trust myself with a credit card, what i dont have i cant use! Although i see alot more support for Maestro cards now.
Looking now simmons
and to everyone else here's my post off H3F
Well I have a problem with the new Halo 2 maps and was wondering wether anyone had a fix for it. Basically what I do is Go to content download on halo 2 and attempt to download the new maps, the system then states that download purchases are not allowed on my xbox and I must enable them through the account settings menu. So I click B and it sends back to the dashboard where I find account settings and have to enter the last 4 digits of my credit card. After entering the 4 digits the system pops up an error message which states something similar to, "Due to technical difficulties you can not access this feature. Please try again later."
This is pissing me off because everyone on my list is playing new maps and I can barely get a middy ffa anymore. Someone help me!
