Anyone do it?

I am running the www.climateprediction.net project...

A lot of my online friends run folding @ home, but I take the stance that I don't really give a toss about cancers in general as they are 95% of thet ime a product of our own disgusting way of life. [See Japanese rates of cancer].

I run climate prediction because I figure that will have a better net benefit to the world throughout all it's habitats for all species including humans. So that is my cup of tea to saving the world.

I also get to see my little model of the earth getting slowly ****ed up in a veriety of data presentations as well :D.

I run BOINC on a few machines at work, added bonus that its open to processing more than one task at a time(SETI, Protein folding, Climate work, Cures for cancer), thus I'm holier than thou ;)

I think SETI has enough geeks looking after that one. Thus I take an arrogant "More efficient" holier than thou stance to you :P

Well in that case...

Thats not fair you ginger *****! I promised myself I wouldn't get all jealous though, but seeing the boinc team rankings and **** it really does bring out your competitive side eh?

Apparently the PS3 is absolutely raping folding at home and has provided something like a total increase in data throughput of 40% since launch. :o

credit where credits due, I'd never leave me 360 on all day, but the PS3 must be munching through that crap. Sony should have made it a selling point - Buy a PS3 and save the world!

Yeah, everyone feels good saving the world, but folding at home is one thing the CELL does just **** at, it does 20x more than the average.

Don't ask me what the average is, average pc or average data return rate for F@H, I dont know. But it can only be a good thing.

I am really impressed with Sony coming out with the whole 'Folding @ Home' initiative. It's a great thing for the Playstation brand and Sony as a company too. That crept under the radar there, but fair play, that's a great initiative, something Microsoft might have copied, if the 360 was ACTUALLY quiet without a sodding disc in the tray!

Yeah I've been running various Boinc projects of my work quadcore for a while now. Is good, even just for the screen savers..

I used to do folding but after a while i decided my PC was slow enough with out other applications that i didn't need on it, and also my monthly bandwidth was already under enough pressure so i stopped it. I like the idea of running work PCs with the applications Jay, might give that a go and then I'll be doing my bit so to speak.

EDIT: Innes did a thread on the PS3 and folding last year that might be look if anyone's interested with who, what, how and why <link (http://community.matchbox360.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=2129&highlight=folding)>
