There are some great looking sigs here, but I voted for Liam's. It's far from good, but it's not a rip like all the others.

If Liam had good PS skills i would of honestly picked his 'idea' as he is the only one to bother using the classic worms style, the rest are just rubbish new style worms, but razor gets the vote as its easily the best design - the text as usual :P

New rule added by me, which will be honoured. I didnt realise that it had been stated you were allowed to vote for yourself. It defeats the point really..
Votes for yourself will not be counted and will be excluded from the final result.
Even though I found your quote to be slightly humourus.. ;)

Wow, how the holy hell does everyone bar me have a vote (and pirate balloon but yeah). I'm not entering in future, although I enjoy making signatures. It's a popularity vote most of the time. Sigs should be judged on how good they are, not if you like the person. Thus from now on I think entries should be sent via a PM and the designer not known until voting is over. I'm not saying mine is good btw, but it's clearly better than a certain couple.

I still don't knwo who I should vote for though.

The reason I voted for my brother's was because it is the best idea and something exactly which I wanted to do but couldn't find the right worm to do so. Not all the fancy stuff nothing to do with worms at all.

Indeed, but like I said. I know which designs are better as I look at these designs at how good they are and how much skill it takes to make them. I don't just look at the name or the comedy value.

Comedy value is a fair reason to vote for a sig. There are not rules in place for how a person should vote. However some people may have voted for themselves which shouldnt be allowed. And voting for a name is stupid as well but im not sure that has actually gone on and cant be proven anyway..

To be honest... people have voted for friends... why wouldnt they? ...
But seriously... I did like Razors...but being critical of sigs... I don't like the background...theres too much going on for me...the worm makes it just about right though... the others really werent photoshopped much.. but leighs looks the best of the rest.

I wanna say now that i didnt vote for myself, as i voted for DayC. So i thought CS IS GREAT AND SO IS WORMS..
put them together? Yes! Be funny if the worm did cause all that desruction in cs_office.
Next time though, i wont bother being trying to be inventive and i will put a random fancy background behind a basic render and rack in the votes!!

Well to be fair.. that's a pretty harsh statement.... Just because you've merged two ideas doesn't make it more inventive than anyone elses..... photoshoppers dont just put a render on a background... notice on my one the render isn't like anyone elses... also the background...done with brushes I made.... It's like me saying... oh next time I won't bother getting cheap votes with my photoshopped image and just slap a picture of a worm into GOW.... Seriously... your statement was rather pig headed mate.

Because number 1 is by far the best. Im sorry but if anything else other than razors had won then it would have been outrageous. You have your opinion to vote, but just because everyone does not agree with you does not mean you should be going around branding it a popularity contest.
It doesnt matter whether they have used the same picture or not, its about the overall look, and razors in my own opinion, and obviously 9 (8) others too, looks the best. I could look at the ones with the same picture all day and never once consider them to be as good as razors, it just looks far better. The colour scheme, the detail, the way it is placed on the backround. Personally i dont particularly want to vote on a sign that is just stuck to a background of something, but instead vote for the one that took the most effort and looks the best according to me.

I have to agree with Torrance in that I didn't think Razors was the best, I voted for Heyburt because I preferred it and it rightfully came second.
But Torrance has all the wrong reasoning, Razors was the first sig entered and its likely that the other sigs with the same picture copied him, so you can't blame him for having the same pic. Plus Razors background rocks and he is a worthy winner looking at some of the poor excuses for sigs that were entered

We should see a list of who voted for what so then we can take off the votes that people made for themselves? Or at least a mod do it for us.

As you will see for the new SOTF competition we will no longer allow people to vote for themselves.
However, in this one there were 4 people that voted for themselves. It wouldn't have made a difference to the final results.

kHz IcemanLeigh: i dont particularly want to vote on a sign that is just stuck to a background of something, -- But that IS what you voted for! O.o
KHz IcemanLeigh: [i want to] vote for the one that took the most effort -- One guy's masterpiece could be thrown together in 30 seconds flat, and another guy spends days working on something that ends up looking awful. You can't judge effort on the final result. But I will point out that Razorlyte's entry was submitted only 43 minutes after the competition was announced. It was the first entry! Most effort? Possibly... but think about it.
ScK ReVeNgE: Razors was the first sig entered and its likely that the other sigs with the same picture copied him -- Or... do a Google image search for "worms" and you'll find it on the first page. Maybe that's why three people used it. ;) Heh.
ScK ReVeNgE: Plus Razors background rocks -- Did he even create the background?
Even Carocat's entry, which I originally thought she'd drawn herself, seems to have come from this page (http://www.arcadestreet.com/worms.htm).
Apart from Liam's and possibly some of Gaskin's, they all look like cut and paste jobs.
So, I'm not specifically attacking Razorlyte's entry.
It's just that the competition introduction says 'talented designers creating'.
And the majority of these entries seem more like recycling. :o

Because that's the entry that Leigh and Revenge were talking about.
The reasons I don't understand its popularity apply to most of the entries, - not just yours. That's what I mean when I say I'm not specifically attacking your entry.
(And to clarify my reasons; it's the simple copy and paste onto your average abstract background. Whereas phatmuther's and Pirate Balloon's were inventive and funny, and Liam's was all his own work.)

Even Carocat's entry, which I originally thought she'd drawn herself, seems to have come from this page (http://www.arcadestreet.com/worms.htm).

I'm chilled.
I just thought that a design competition would try to reward new/clever/funny ideas and a talent in drawing instead of the obvious "cut-and-paste a render onto a seemingly-random background", which was demonstrated by so many of the entries.
If you can win by doing that, what incentive do people have to be more creative?
So I questioned why people voted how they did. :)
The reason I voted for my brother's was because it is the best idea and something exactly which I wanted to do but couldn't find the right worm to do so. Not all the fancy stuff nothing to do with worms at all.
^ That's the sort of perspective I'm sided with.
But as Carocat said, "People look for different things in sigs".
So I think we should leave it at that!
I'm not big GTA fan. You should have chosen Jet Set Radio Future!
But I guess it's only fair I give it a go after coming in here and bashing about half the entries from the last competition, so yeah, okay.

kHz IcemanLeigh: i dont particularly want to vote on a sign that is just stuck to a background of something, -- But that IS what you voted for! O.o
I cant gaurentee it, but I would say that razors entry was created completely by him, that means it isnt just stuck to a random backround, but instead made into a backround that fits. If you look properly, and give it a seconds thought rather than deisregarding it because it isnt pasted into a counterstrike background, you will notice that the colour scheme matches the worms render. The left side is the colour of the shotgun, and the right side is the colour of the bazooka.. Simply stuck on? I dont think so, unlike pirates and phatmuthers.. I am not attacking either of theirs, I like both of them. But you cannot claim that they took more effort. In fact they just stuck images to another.. (maybe pirates more than phat's)
43 minutes is more than enough time to put alot of effort into a sig. I could create a whole website template in 43 minutes let alone a 400x100 sig.
Oh and by the way, My backround is completely created by me also before you start acusing me of also sticking something to an already created backround..
I look forward to your creative, inventive, clever, funny, yet well designed, completely drawn by yourself, non recycled, more than 43 minutes worth of effort design, in the next fortnightly competition. And trust me. If it ticks all the boxes, I'll give you my vote.

How are we supposed to know what is someone's own work and what has been 'borrowed' from the internet? I don't want to vote on an entry where the majority of the piece was ripped from someplace else. Unfortunately, it seems, we just have to guess. Or ask each individual entrant (which we can't do now it's anonymous). Maybe we need some rules in place, there?
Okay, so you all made your own backgrounds. Well done. Some of them look very professional. I particularly like numbers 1 and 12.
Although it still seems like a waste to spend so much time creating an awesome background, but then taking the easy cut & paste option when it comes to the main part: THE WORM! Which is the actual theme of the whole competition!
(And I've never said my entry will be the best.
 So don't imply I have.)

I thought you liked pirate balloons sig? Ah but Im sure that is different though right..?
Basically, I am arguing that we cannot tell what is someone's own work, so how about we just stick to voting on the sig we think looks the best.. ? Thats what it is all about in the end. People have different reasons for voting on sigs so just get on with it. My only problem was the fact that you just decided to start judging peoples decisions and branding them as all because of popularity..
Although it still seems like a waste to spend so much time creating an awesome background, but then taking the easy cut & paste option when it comes to the main part: THE WORM! Which is the actual theme of the whole competition!
Exactly, the game is the theme of the competition.. So why the hell would you not use a picture of the game!?! I have no idea what your point is! The main part is always gonig to be the worm, because the theme is based on the game, so entrants only have the background, the text, and the overall look of the piece to be creative! Then you condemn people for trying to be creative with their background, unless they copy and paste it from the internet in an attempt to be funny, or draw it on paint!?
What do you suggest then instead of 'copying and pasteing' a picture of the GAME WHICH IS THE THEME!?
KH Torrance
01-04-2007, 09:26 PM
I thought you liked pirate balloons sig? Ah but Im sure that is different though right..?True, the images were ripped, but, as far as I know, the idea was his own. The idea wasn't ripped, and it was quite funny. So I like it.
I am arguing that we cannot tell what is someone's own work, so how about we just stick to voting on the sig we think looks the best.. ?That's exactly what I pointed out. But I don't think it should be ignored. It means plagiarised entries (or those which as tantamount to it) are judged at the same level as those which are created from scratch. Hardly fair, is it.
My only problem was the fact that you just decided to start judging peoples decisions and branding them as all because of popularity..Judging isn't the right word. I was simply questioning the decisions because I couldn't see the logic behind them. And my "damn popularity contest" quote, which started all this, is a fricking Simpsons quote! Hence it was supposed to be taken lightly! Gawd.
What do you suggest then instead of 'copying and pasteing' a picture of the GAME WHICH IS THE THEME!?Erm... create your own? ;)
IcemanLeigh
01-04-2007, 09:58 PM
You suggest that people should create their own image of the game that is the theme? Why even have a theme? We should just call it random creation of the fortnight, and we can all just take big white canvases and draw a couple of lines on them, then claim them to be art? Or at least representative of something..
KH Torrance
02-04-2007, 11:43 AM
wtf?
How does "create your own picture related to the theme" equal "don't have a theme" . . . ?!
Anyway, I didn't even say you have to do that!
Liam used original artwork, whereas Phatmuther and Pirate Balloon (and you, to an extent) used original ideas.
They're all good.
I believe those entries should be given more credit than entries where the idea is very unimaginative* and the only original artwork is a background which (often) isn't even related to worms!
Your reply was complete nonsense.
I can't be bothered to explain this any further.
* Kind of supported by the fact that at least four entries used that same idea.
